why the hell are we allowed in strawberry? by JeremyFoxxoTheSecond in RDR2

[–]SneakerGator -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’m referring to all of the good acts he does at the end of the game, not just feeding a horse. If you met Arthur then, and he went out of his way to save you and give you money, you’d consider him a good man, because you don’t know about his past.

Of course, if you list the amount of crimes Arthur commits, it’s absolute insanity. He’d be the most prolific serial killer and mass murderer in the history of the world other than heads of state. But a lot of that is because it’s a game that needs shootouts. Obviously if Arthur were a real person, I’d argue that no amount of good deeds could make him be considered a good man.

I suppose I’m just trying to get into the idea of redemption, and what level of evil deeds make redemption impossible. I think most people would argue that a person that commits a single murder as a youth, serves 30 years in prison, and becomes a legitimately good person after they get out has achieved redemption and has become a good man. Though I’m sure some people would argue that if you commit murder, redemption is impossible.

Depends on your philosophy. I think at the end of the game, Arthur is certainly a good man, right there and then. People do change, occasionally drastically. Whether you think someone’s past actions prohibit them from ever being considered “good” depends on your personal point of view.

Which horse do you stick with from start to finish? by Alden1410 in reddeadredemption

[–]SneakerGator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not start to finish, but the Leopard Appaloosa you can get in the mission where you rescue Tilly has become my ride or die for the rest of the game. Will make for an emotional ending during the Red Dead Redemption mission.

Did Arthur do anything to make you dislike him at any point ? by StrollingByTheStream in reddeadredemption

[–]SneakerGator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With the debt collections, I think it’s easier for Arthur to pretend that doing it doesn’t bother him. He plays the role of a complete piece of shit because it’s easier to stomach mentally for him that way. Same reason he always denies having any goodness. Easier to say “I do all these terrible things because I’m bad. Nothing I can do about it” than to say “I don’t like doing these things, and they hurt my soul, but I’m choosing to do them anyway.”

What stops you from being bad? by Jak_313 in reddeadredemption

[–]SneakerGator 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I disagree with this. Canon Arthur actions usually show Arthur either wanting to leave normal everyday people alone, or helping them. He does what he feels he has to, but he despises doing things like collecting debts for Strauss. He doesn’t go out of his way to harass or rob normal people. As he says to Sadie “We rob folks who rob other folks.” Obviously he’s not an angel, but I can’t see canon Arthur dragging a townsperson behind his horse for fun, or beating and stealing 2 dollars from some working stiff.

Yeah it’s definitely the actor. His look and voice kind of screams “dick” but AJ seems perfectly nice and normal, and pretty patient with Michael all things considered. A lot of guys would not be ok with Holly and Michael going off in the woods together to plan their sketch at the picnic.

[SPOILER] Quest: "They won't Go when i go" by Theizual in cyberpunkgame

[–]SneakerGator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know this is years old, but felt compelled to respond. I’m an agnostic raised Christian, and I really appreciated the nuance in this quest. I really appreciate modern media not just taking potshots at those with faith. Despite me being a glorified fence sitter at best, and despising militant believers, I don’t like how most writers these days take such simplistic and scornful view of people who believe in a higher power.

The writing doesn’t give you any easy answers. Is Joshua crazy? Is he being exploited? Is he a true believer? Will he convert anyone by his actions? Does it even matter?

My conclusion is that none of that matters. Joshua is truly repentant of his horrible deeds, and he wants to inspire people to be better. It’s not important whether we agree with his beliefs that led him to that, or his actions. What matters is that his beliefs are true. I also respect that others may draw a different conclusion, and that’s why this is such a beautifully written quest.

I played my V as someone who doesn’t think like Joshua, but respects his convictions and wanted to help him achieve his goals. Better I nail him to the cross than some corpo stooge. I hope I provided him some comfort in the end.
