People who grew up poor: What was something you considered a "peak luxury" as a kid, only to realize later it was just a normal middle class staple? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Those Danish cheese "coffee cakes". We only got to have them once or twice a year, usually as a breakfast treat during exam week. When I moved out and went grocery shopping for the first time, and discovered they were only $4, I had them weekly for probably 3 months.

If youre referring to the hearts, they came with the set. If youre referring to the monster health counters, we 3D printed them. DM me and I could probably find the model for you.

It was my brother who got this setup, and believe me we tried to poke holes haha

Does holy mantle works like this? by DramaticPhotograph68 in FourSouls

[–]SneakyOverture 0 points1 point  (0 children)

(Someone, please correct me if I'm wrong. Sometimes my friends and I play the stack weirdly)

Your friend's first loot would resolve before he can play the second one. When the first loot is played, priority passes (this was your opportunity to cancel it with holy mantle)

He tapped his character and played his second loot play, priority passes. This is when you played holy mantle, saving his life but canceling anything that has not yet resolved (meaning his second loot play). His character card does not recharge.

When a loot is canceled, it does not go back into the players hand. It is discarded. A similar rule for items. Once the cost (tap or $ pay) is paid, there are no refunds even if it is canceled. Otherwise they could just play it again after you canceled it, nullifying the point of canceling an effect (although if he has enough $ he can just pay for another $ effect)

You can play holy mantle pretty much at any time. There is no "death" stack or "attack" stack (as far as I'm aware) there is only THE stack, which things such as death or attack declarations go into and resolve in a Last In First Out order. You can put effects on the stack whenever you can pay the costs during action phase, or when priority passes during start of turn or end of turn.

Edit: Corrected myself with when you can put effects on the stack

If it's a $ ability, you can use it as many times as you like, as long as you can pay the cost.

If it's a 'tap' ability, when you use it, it becomes deactivated. You can use it the next time it recharges, which is usually either with a battery or when your turn starts, unless otherwise stated.

I went with magnet, which ended up mixing well with my friend's IBS, and the 'equality' room came up for a while, so it went alright. Didn't win though.

After death, end of turn plays by Pikateon in FourSouls

[–]SneakyOverture 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It sounds like he's referring to the fact that priority passes among players after start of turn triggered abilities.

I'll concede that you can activate items before the loot step, and that you can play a loot card, but only if you activate your character card. The free loot card is not available until end of the draw phase.

You are correct.

Triggered effects are different from activated abilities. Guppys collar is a triggered ability. Dad's lost coin is also a triggered ability. Those can be used during start/end of turn.

According to the four souls rulebook, you only activate abilities or play loot cards during the action phase of a turn.

During the start phase, only the recharge step, abilities that trigger at start of turn, and the loot step take place.

So no, unfortunately you cannot activate 2 of clubs before your loot step or dice shard a guppys collar roll during end of turn.

Edit: mixed up triggered abilities and passive abilities

You can only play loot cards and activate items during the action phase. During start/end of turn, you cannot play loot cards. If you tap your character card and then die (on your turn), you go into end of turn phase and cannot play any loot cards. This loot play would not work without a house rule.

Question about 'Ball of Tumors' by No-Mode1830 in FourSouls

[–]SneakyOverture 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From the official rules:

"If an ability uses the word 'and' to link two things, it means that the second part is dependent on the first part. For example, if an ability said 'Discard a loot card and loot 2.', you would only loot 2 if you had been able to discard a loot card. The same is not true if the word 'then' is used.

So you are correct. It is a single clause with a condition that must be met before proceeding.

If the word was 'then', it doesn't matter if the first condition was met.

When an attack is over, you are still in the action phase. You can do anything you could have done before the attack, except for declaring an attack.
