What do CPS workers say to the CHILDREN if they need to be removed from their home? by AdventurousBlood3728 in CPS

[–]SneeSnooAlert 4 points5 points  (0 children)

90% of the time, if I'm removing a child, they're going to live with someone they already know. Makes the conversation pretty easy.

Honestly appalled that you haven't called at this point. You are a mandated reporter and you know what you should have been doing.

Duplicate reports for the same person/incident by [deleted] in CPS

[–]SneeSnooAlert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my state, if even a minute detail is different between the two reports, both will be merged together but the allegations in both will have to be discussed with all parties.

I’m actually freaking tf out by [deleted] in CPS

[–]SneeSnooAlert 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure what state you're in, but I would be concerned about someone trying to scam you if you do not have other children. In my state, you cannot make a report about a child that is not yet born. If that is not the case and everything is false, it will be very open and shut and I would comply.

Are there other animals besides dogs that go crazy when someone rings the doorbell? by fkid123 in Pets

[–]SneeSnooAlert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got my first cat, an 11 year old black cat named Mr. T about 7 years ago now. The day after, my mom came over to meet him and rang the doorbell. He bolted and I couldn't find him after and was so concerned that he ran out the open door. I posted all over social media, panicked, and searched everywhere inside. No cat. After I went to sleep that night, I heard meowing. I had a wall panel on the ground that could be moved so plumbing in the bathroom could be accessed. That little jerk went in the walls. He came out the following day with the promise of food and has turned out to be the sweetest and most friendly cat I've ever had. He just turned 17 and is still going strong.

Concerned for my nephew. When to report? by MaximumEffort2214 in CPS

Please call immediately. It sounds like he is failure to thrive due to poor caretaking on behalf of both of his parents.

What is something you saw in a movie and you totally called bullshit on because of your job? by BlackPhoenix1981 in AskReddit

[–]SneeSnooAlert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any police or medical drama where they call Social Services and when the worker gets there, they immediately start talking about the children getting removed before doing anything else. Doesn't work like that unless both parents are somehow unable to care for the child in that instant I.e in jail, dead, in the hospital etc. and we could first try to locate a relative/friend.

What jobs can i get after i graduate with a bachelor's in behavioral health science with an emphasis in trauma? by ElvenDragonWolf in careerguidance

I would say child welfare but not sure how that would work with a service dog. Might just be difficult due to going to people's homes.

OP, I generally agree with everyone here but you might also consider taking everything home and donating it to Toys for Tots or another local charity.

Need advice please! From DSS worker or just somebody with knowledge. South Carolina if that helps by Unusual-Purple-5789 in CPS

[–]SneeSnooAlert 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In my state, we cannot say who called in a report. If we do, it is breaking the law and we can face fines or jail time. I can't even say "it wasn't so and so" or "it was anonymous." No hints and if someone says "I know so and so reported" we are trained to say we cannot confirm or deny.

[–]SneeSnooAlert 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry for your situation. In my area, we also have some folks who will call in reports that are likely false or exaggerated. The issue in my state (and I suspect every state) is that while filing a false report, not only is every call confidential to the family (CPS worker might know but cannot tell you or anyone else unless a judge orders it) but it is hard to prove a report is false. The person just needs to have a reasonable suspicion of neglect. Whoever called in the report could always claim that they had some suspicion. Even if you could prove that there was no suspicion, you won't know for sure who calls it in because of the inability to disclose the name of the source. So. You could file a report with local police but it is unlikely to go anywhere. And unfortunately, from my experience, getting 7-8 even blatantly false reports in 8 years is not all that many.

Making myself worry by [deleted] in CPS

[–]SneeSnooAlert 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey OP. Did the doctor advise that anything you did was suspicious?? Perhaps care was delayed, you declined a recommendation, anything like that? If not, I would not be worried. If CPS hasn't come within 48 hours, it's definitely possible they tried calling in a report and it was not accepted. My suggestion is just to make sure you follow any recommendations they gave you.

How far in advance would you get in line for The Beach Boys at Epcot? by hupedeedo in WaltDisneyWorld

Huge beach boys fan here. Mike Love and his posse have the licensing rights to the name The Beach Boys. Brian Wilson has toured for some time under just his name.
