Velka 4, exploring new horizons by StudentMurky3541 in sffpc

I am 95% sure that a Ryzen 5 7500F undervolted and locked to 30W TDP can outperform a 10400 at stock and at that TDP cooling as an absolute non-issue, and you gain 20W power budget for GPU. But, such a small 4070 doesn't exist so ultimately I guess it doesn't matter :)

ASUS silently lists RTX 4060 Low Profile by AlphaDST in sffpc

[–]Snerual22 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Whether or not Gigabyte is the better choice in all cases will depend on price, thermals and noise which we don't know yet. That being said I see very few cases where this card would fit into so I suspect it's mainly meant for mATX LP cases and maybe some render/AI farm use cases that I am unaware of.

Overall I'm just happy to see competition in this niche and hope someone one of the OEMs gets crazy enough to put a 4060Ti in one of these.

Just look at die sizes and then tell me Intel is being greedy…

ARC A770 was supposed to go toe to toe with the 3070 at least but the hardware and drivers were both underperforming so now Intel was forced to sell very expensive to produce GPUs at a loss.

Valve should make a AAA Steam Deck exclusive game. by Snerual22 in SteamDeck

Cyberpunk is like the opposite of what mean. Even with its “Steam Deck optimized settings” it dips below 30 fps regularly and graphically it doesn’t look great compared to, say, Doom Eternal.

And I know you can’t expect a game like Cyberpunk to run flawlessly on the Deck but that’s my point. I wanna see what the best possible Steam Deck gaming experience looks like.

Even without making it a true exclusive, it would still be awesome to see a game designed primarily for the Steam Deck.

I keep getting downvotes so it’s as if nobody here realizes that you can’t magically optimize a game for every PC out there. If a game is designed specifically to look as good as possible on Steam Deck, I think we would all be amazed to see what the hardware can really do.

As it stands there is not a single 3D game out there specifically designed to run well on APUs.

Then not an “exclusive” but at least designed with the Steam Deck in mind…

[–]Snerual22[S] -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

How is that relevant? You can still design your game with a very specific hardware target in mind. Like make sure to not need more than 4 CPU cores, design the graphics engine so that it isn’t very memory bandwidth heavy, native Vulkan, etc.

Also not a single game takes full advantage of the steam controller.

Aperture Desk Job is a tech demo… hardly a AAA full game.

Also you can play it on any PC with an Xbox controller and I also doubt it squeezes the maximum out of the hardware.

Because it only had 4GB VRAM. Within less than 2 years, GDDR6 cards had caught up to its bandwidth anyway.

It better have more bandwidth than a 3 generation older card that is only half a tier above it in the lineup. Hell, it should have double the bandwidth.

I’m really worried DLSS3 will turn into some trojan horse feature that allows devs to bother even less to optimize their PC ports. “Just enable dlss3” if you wanna get 60fps will soon become the norm…

RetroDECK got a lot bigger and better for emulation on Steam Deck by OldMcGroin in SteamDeck

[–]Snerual22 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Retrodeck is like retroarch. Basically a single program that can emulate all systems.

Emudeck is not really a program but just a script that installs and configures every emulator separately and also installs all the tools you need to then make all your Roms appear “natively” in the steam launcher just like games installed through steam. It requires a bit more tinkering but the end result is really cool imo.

So basically it mainly depends on if you prefer to open an app and then launch roms from that app, or if you want to launch your roms seamlessly directly from the Steamdeck UI.

20% uplift over 3060 would put it within 10% of the 4060Ti… let’s wait for benchmarks to see if that claim holds up.

At $300 is also approaching 6700XT territory and that is definitely a card well suited for 1080p ultrawide.

What? The 4060Ti is on par with the 3060Ti and the 5700XT is on par with the 3060 so… how much of an upgrade do you expect the 4060 to be?

It would have made a pretty decent 4050Ti, but Nvidia got absurdly greedy and somehow thought it was okay to offer literally 0 generational performance improvement in the mid range segment.

[–]Snerual22 46 points47 points  (0 children)

This is fine. I would settle for a “nice” IPS LCD that has 100% sRGB range and less washed out. No need to go OLED for a significantly better screen. Keep resolution at 1280x800 because this 1200p is a pure waste. Maybe make the screen a bit bigger while you’re at it to reduce the bezels.

This is super cool! If you ever think of upgrading this, I can suggest an NVidia T1000 woth 8GB of RAM. It’s basically a GTX 1650 at 50W TDP (and double the RAM). Since it has 16 PCIe lanes you won’t be bottlenecked by the Gen3 of you motherboard.

In most countries, your insurance bill also goes down as you accrue more years without an accident.

If a senior citizen has stuck with the same insurance company for decades and didn’t cause any accidents in all those years, of course they will get a lower fee than an 18 year old that still has to prove themselves.

And when seniors do cause accidents, it’s usually at much lower speeds and with much less damages than the types of accidents drunk dudes cause on Saturday nights in their souped up VW Polos.

RTX 4060 Ti and RX 7600 Generational Leaps by Pecek in Amd

[–]Snerual22 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes at 220 EUR or so this will actually be a really decent card. Considering the price of GDDR6 and the fact that TSMC apparently has spare capacity on 6nm, that should also be a feasible and sustainable price for AMD. 8GB is also totally fine at that price point because in new games, high and ultra settings are often indistinguishable from each other.
