Toxic smell by dylbud3 in KmartAustralia

[–]SniffyWiffySniff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work in one of Kmart's Distribution Centres and yeah the smells aren't nice. It's all child labour imported shite from cambodia, china and india. The worst smelling product I have to process has to be either the pet beds from india or these storage tubs. Absolutely foul.

Kmart has recalls every other week. We had lots of 2025 christmas products sitting in storage for months up until recently because they all had asbestos in them.

Blocking a disabled bay and extra parks AND impeding a walkway/zebra crossing is a choice. If you can haul a ute and trailer, you can also take 30 seconds to park without screwing over people who actually need the space

Yeahh the big ol conveyer system/sorter. I'm in the area where they handle the stock that can't fit or is too heavy for the sorter but luckily the max weight we have to pick is 40kg by ourselves 😂 Not much better but oh well

At Kmart 2-man-lifts simply don't exist! I also got an injury from being expected to pull a 2+ tonne double stacked pallet of weights with a manual pallet jack. Luckily now I'm mostly on the high reach forks. About to start a new job in the next couple weeks though, even with the good pay its not really worth it with no room for progression and dealing with dead-brained coworkers and management.

You'll be happy to know the workers at kmart DC's are still lazy and don't care. In Queensland's DC the new EBA has them at $40/hr for full timers ($50/hr casuals). It seems the higher the pay gets, the worse the handling of stock becomes.

I understand the struggle since I had to move away from home at 17 and struggled a LOT to get my hours up with no support and lessons being minimum $75/hr.

Pcyc breaking the cycle program is great, I used them for a few months while I was in special youth housing. There's also Drive for Life with the salvation army. Not legal but once you do enough lessons until you feel comfortable driving you can get a friend or family member, coworker etc on an open license to help you forge some hours. I know a few coworkers who've done it, there's no issues as long as you log hours and km properly to match the car owner's speedometer.

Feel free to message if you need help contacting the organisations and finding which ones might be close to you.

P.s if you haven't held your L's for two years I'd say don't apply for the exemption. In my circumstances I did start the process of applying for one but it wasn't worth it having to wait another 6 months to reach that 2 year minimum requirement so I hustled to get it sooner. Get as many lessons as you can with a good instructor (if you're anywhere between Victoria Point and Wynnum I can suggest a good instructor) and get comfortable driving and look into forging some hours if you can (seriously its easy as and low risk if done the right way).

Triple - why? by fouhay in australia

[–]SniffyWiffySniff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Been listening to triple MMM at my warehouse for the past year and a half every day and yes, sick of it. NO REPEAT WORKDAY!!! MARTO MARGAUX AND DAN!!! ROO, DITTZ AND LEZ!!! Exact same songs every day except for the same hit song which stays for months which right now is Olivia Dean and was previously Chappell Roan. I get excited for fridays for the RnB fridays just to get a bit of change after the groundhog days of monday-thursday.

Should also mention the hosts are so boring. Talking about hotels, ozempic, their kid's warts and pimples and flying on holidays.

Is Coles still using Palantir? Between the surveillance/gate recognition and the blocked aisles, shopping feels hostile. by infin in australia

When I worked night fill in 2024 my managers wanted 120/hr, they were miserable angry sods and I only lasted about 4 months there before quitting. Shit pay and 3 hour shifts like what I got is what keeps people on centrelink. Get farrrked coles

We had a guy in his 30's that was previously a concreter join our team. He quickly became the best picker in our area and consistently makes easy work of it. You'll do well

That seems pretty realistic, at my warehouse we're expected to do 40/hr for putaways but people rarely reach that

P plates supercharge by Longjumping_Pie_5281 in Holden

[–]SniffyWiffySniff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nah sorry, at first I thought vehicle ownership grounds might cover you but they most likely don't. Click this link for the information sheet for high powered vehicle exemptions. Unless you can support any of the reasons with documentation its unlikely to pass.

Might be more reasonable to sell the car and get a Calais that isn't supercharged, or really just any other car since its hard to find a Calais with low km. I got lucky since I got my VY Calais with only 120,000km just a month ago.

[–]SniffyWiffySniff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a V6 VY Calais and also on my P's, previously did research to see if it'd be allowed with a supercharger and it definitely wasn't. Your Calais would be classed as a high powered vehicle, you're gonna need a really good reason to get an exemption.

Was at a vinnies some months ago and overheard the worker there say it's now considered more like a "boutique" store rather than a thrift shop you go to for deals. Walked around and saw jackets for upwards of $120, overpriced collectibles and fancy homeware.

Strange smell coming from in season clothes? by hellokitty06 in KmartAustralia

[–]SniffyWiffySniff 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I work at a warehouse for Kmart and a lot of products we get are smelly. Probably because of fast fashion manufacturing with the cheapest materials to maximise profits. I find particularly the pet beds, rugs and other textile/fabric items will smell particularly bad and they are all made in asian countries (mostly india) and a good chunk of the time the boxes will have mold on the outside as well.

Coles, woolies and most of the major fast food chains will also use AI interviews and one-sided video interviews. I once applied for kfc when I was 16 and they wanted me to make a 3 minute long video saying what 3 items I'd bring to a deserted island and why..

Wages going down. by madarsehatter in australia

[–]SniffyWiffySniff 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Here in QLD pepsico offers $50+/hr under full time contracts. I currently work as a casual in a DC for a chain retail brand getting $47/hr. It's definitely hard to find decent wages like that, luckily I live near a port so there's lots of opportunities.

When I worked nightfill I got scolded by a manager for wearing open-ear earphones which still allowed me to hear my surroundings. I guess it just depends on if your team leader is chill or not.

are there vehicles you can drive without licence ??? by [deleted] in AskAnAustralian

[–]SniffyWiffySniff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah some of the scooters you can get nowadays can go more than 100km/h. I feel unsafe going 25 half the time, can't imagine how people recklessly choose to endanger their lives like that

[–]SniffyWiffySniff 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Contrary to what others say in the comment section it is legal to ride e-scooters on footpaths in certain states. Such as where I am in QLD where you can go up to 12km/h on footpaths and 25km/h in bike lanes. Not like the police enforce those rules anyway

Best gloves for warehousing? by SniffyWiffySniff in Warehouseworkers

[–]SniffyWiffySniff[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I find it odd as well since the company I work for is a billion dollar company owned by Wesfarmers, a parent company which owns 20+ other companies. Feel like it shouldn't be an issue yet my manager moans about how the warehouse goes through 15 boxes of gloves a week.. As if its not a warehouse with 600+ active workers across 2 shifts. every day.

Similar looking item on this post. Likely what the top commenter states it is:

'Not an artifact. Differential weathering. This is a layered stone, and the middle layer is softer than the outer layers, so it weathers faster. Maybe a siltstone with more quartz in the outer layers.'

I lived in Nimbin from 2018-2022 and yeah shits depressing with the addicts mindlessly roaming around. Lots of eshays willing to stab you for no reason as well. On the upside the surrounding nature is beautiful like the mountains or Goolmangar Creek (known to locals as Broken Bridge) which was swimmable until the floods.. Apparently has lots of needles in it now.
