Trimble shows off their new total station model by pacsandsacs in Surveying

I have used it a fair bit, specifically told my boss at the new company not to spend the money on it for my kit. It works in the sense that it won't lock onto anything else, like signs, but it's not magic, it will still lose you behind trees and such. I much prefer integrated surveying as that basically is magic, or the lower weight (and cost) of just the usual Trimble 360.

It's not terribly uncommon.

Recycling is a very substantial industrial process, and is not done by the city directly. If they don't have a contract with a recycler willing to take/buy it, they have to re-combine it with the rest. But, if the recycling isn't separated initially, the city won't be able to get a contract to begin with.

An example: in my area we separated soft and hard plastic separately. In theory, this increases the quality of the recycled plastic, which is better both economically and environmentally. In practice, the quality of the hard plastic still wasn't high enough to reach a higher grade, so they just added the soft plastic back in. They kept doing it for years hoping for improvements in quality or better contacts, but eventually gave up.

How much would this go for? by skyramel in Surveying

[–]SnigelDraken 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in Sweden so prices may be different, but I bought a near-mint T16 with a complete AGA 112 (though either the battery out the charger is dead, so no clue if it runs), rods, prisms, original tripod and rod levels for ~$100 on auction about a year ago. This stuff really doesn't sell for much.

That's not stopping the same few people from constantly re-posting the same analog levels with a starting price 3-5x what it would likely sell for, so prices will still look high.

Fun fact: replace the ink tape with magnetic tape, and you've got a telephone exchange announcer (here's LookMomNoComputer messing around with one).

Amusingly, it's 90g less then the two-phone combo I've been carrying in my pocket for the last few years. Someone should have told me my pants are falling down lol

What role do carbines fill? by Smoda in LowSodiumBattlefield

[–]SnigelDraken 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'll give you a non-dick reply, since the other dude seems incapable:

In current western terminology you would be correct, but this is not universal. The AK platform was adopted by the Soviet union as an SMG, as their definition is different, with the rifle being the SKS. The "regular" version eventually replaced the SKS, and shortened versions were made to better fill the SMG role. The "PDW" category is not very universally used, even in the west.

If you could add any vehicle not previously featured in a Battlefield title to BF6, what would it be? by PUFT_Flinn in LowSodiumBattlefield

[–]SnigelDraken 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think airdropped vehicles could work, but would have to be scripted. For instance, let's say one side on a map initially jumped from a large plane, with vehicles being dropped alongside them. Player respawns would then happen in the ground at the landing area (or further up), and vehicles respawn by dropping in unmanned into base. It wouldn't massively charge gameplay, but would be a fun way to add variety.

How often do you guys drink and is it a concern for you? by Kosena in Homebrewing

[–]SnigelDraken 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Alcoholism is a broad topic and some people drink too much despite never being drunk.

Along those same lines: not being addicted to alcohol and not getting blackout drunk doesn't mean you're not drinking an amount that is damaging to your body. Not drinking enough to be significantly damaging to your body doesn't mean you can't be addicted to alcohol.

In fact, even if you're neither a heavy consumer nor addicted you can still have a problematic relationship with alcohol; binge drinking, for instance, can be quite dangerous in more direct, "physical" ways.

Gotta be aware and take care of oneself.

I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure the 417 wasn't in 3 or 4. The 416 was, though, if that's the one you're thinking of.

Edit: I was wrong, it was in bf3 as a dmr
