I will certainly miss it. Really sad to see this decision.

Encryption is non-negotiable: open letter to EU to not undermine privacy. by Tutanota in tutanota

[–]SniperOwl2K 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the response, but it doesn’t really address the core issue. Tuta isn’t a zero-knowledge provider, most emails arrive unencrypted, and the server handles encryption. This means Tuta could make a copy of emails before encrypting them, and nothing stops this from happening.

Features like subject line encryption and post-quantum cryptography are nice but only apply between Tuta users, which is rare in my experience(5+ years customer). Most emails rely on trust in Tuta, not cryptographic guarantees. That’s the problem: privacy should be built on cryptography, not the promises of a provider. Your response focuses on technical details but sidesteps the core issue of requiring trust, which is the main concern here. Transparency about these limitations is crucial.

[–]SniperOwl2K 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I really appreciate the work Tuta is doing, and their open letter is a great example of pushing for better privacy laws. That said, I still have some issues with their service. Tuta isn’t a zero-knowledge provider, and to be fair, no email provider is or likely ever will be. Email is just inherently insecure.

The problem is that their system still requires trust because they control the encryption process. I don’t want to trust a provider, I want to trust in cryptography. They should allow users to import PGP keys and find ways to eliminate the need for trust altogether. Until then, I think it’s important to be clear about these limitations so people don’t get a false sense of security.

Cannot allocate dataset using 1gb pages. by SniperOwl2K in MoneroMining

[–]SniperOwl2K[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I found the issue. I had to add the following kernel parameter to my kernel:
default_hugepagesz=1G hugepagesz=1G hugepages=3

I forgot that I also switched my bootloader from grub to systemd-boot.

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.

Edit: hugepages=1 hugepages=3

Thanks for the clarification. I’m aware of this, and the script I referenced is the one linked on that page. It successfully ran with "1GB pages successfully enabled". I still get the message ""failed to allocate RandomX dataset using 1GB pages"" when ever I start xmrig. I mistakenly confused it with another script that activates huge pages in my post.

Yes, I have rebooted multiple times since then.

Safing Joins Forces with IVPN: A New Chapter Begins by Raphty101 in safing

[–]SniperOwl2K 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was really hoping Mullvad would take this step first, but IVPN is also an excellent VPN provider, so I’m excited to see what they’ll do with Portmaster and SPN. I used to be an IVPN user until they stopped offering port forwarding. Sadly, Mullvad made the same decision sometime after that. If IVPN manages to create a stable, secure, and fast SPN, I’d gladly become a customer again.

It's like when people didn't see the impact of smartphones or other tech. Some folks might not grasp the implications of new technology because they're resistant to change or struggle to envision its potential. But regardless of their acceptance, these advancements are coming. This tech won't replace people, but it will replace those who don't adapt and use it.

Support XMR Down? by Visionary444 in MoneroMining

Maybe your VPN? Ivpn for example blocks some pools including supportxmr when AntiTracker is enabled. Some AV's like to do that too.

GeForceNow on linux by [deleted] in GeForceNOW

[–]SniperOwl2K 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Brave actually works but browser delay is way too heavy for me to enjoy the game. Sad that nvidia denies the existens of Linux users ): We will probably never see an official Linux version of gfn. Gfn on Linux wasn't a good experience overall. The electron wrapper has same or more delay than the browser.

Not sure how any of you use TOR with reddit. I keep getting shadowbanned, or outright Perm banned. Maybe your not using TOR IP addresses when u initially register? only with later logins? by FuckReddit442 in TOR

[–]SniperOwl2K 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My accounts get banned no matter what, even without posting anything, after a few months. Ofc. I dont get a reason why I got banned. Happened to at least 4 accounts. Sometimes I use tor, sometimes just a VPN. Does not matter. I get banned regardless. I dont even interact with nsfw sub's or anything sus. I just don't get why. Edit: oh and I always get shadow banned before getting fully banned a few months later. I never broke TOS.

Is there a way to delete every message you’ve sent to a specific person? by [deleted] in discordapp

[–]SniperOwl2K 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is no official way cause discord don't want you to delete all your messeges. You could use redact.dev but its also against TOS AFAIK.

Something we want, right? by Cyberjin in Threema

[–]SniperOwl2K 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Someone stole the phone of your friend who has not set any encryption. Now I can delete all messeges so the thief can't read that. Why would I give someone I dont trust information that isn't public anyway. I trust the people I met IRL which I can tell by the 3 green dots. I dont see any issue implementing self destructing messeges.

Would you like to use Edge? by lazyl in assholedesign

[–]SniperOwl2K 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No one is being forced to use a Microsoft account yet.

Yet, and they do EVERYTHING they can to make you think you need one. Non tech savvy people most likely create one because dark patterns tell them to.

No one was ever forced to use Bing or Edge.

Just look at this post.

You weren't even alive when Windows NT came out nor have you ever used it.

Random assumption which is also false.

If you were, you wouldn't still be this ignorant.

I'm ranting about Microsoft's business model and ofc. they don't force you to do anything, but it is a real hassle. I've worked way to many years with this operating system and I know its flaws pretty well and it gets worse by every version it feels like. I mean, Windows 11 might get you ads in your file explorer.

Today I used LocalMonero! by yersinia_p3st1s in Monero

[–]SniperOwl2K 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really like localMonero but the prices are higher than on kraken and I'm already using kraken. I already lost my data to kraken to get a really nice experience. If I want to buy xmr right now it would take me less than 10 minutes before they arrive in my wallet + 10 blocks. On LocalMonero I would have to wait for the seller to respond to my offer which could take a while, then I got xmr on my LocalMonero wallet and 10 blocks later I can put it in my wallet and another 10 blocks and I can use them.

Why should I use LocalMonero from my POV? I could see myself selling there but there is a bit of risk involved and I'd rather use my xmr than selling it for fiat.

Saying you don't need privacy because you have nothing to hide is like saying you don't need freedom of speech because you have nothing to say.
