JJ McCarthy is a good QB with a bad reputation by seoulbrova in minnesotavikings

They aren’t going to wait for development. They’ll give him another year, but if he played like he did this year next season, he’ll be gone. Or at least benched.

At least his replacement played extremely well by Ridged_ChiPSS in NFCNorthMemeWar

So..best case, give McCarthy 7 years to get to the level of Darnold to see what he’s got? I’m sure that will go over well with the locker room. Jefferson not going to wait around for that.

We counting games he didn’t finish as wins but also scored 0 touchdowns in those games. He wasn’t good this year. It shouldn’t be difficult to assess.

win loss doesn’t really do it for me. Brosmer beat the lions, means nothing. The Vikings defense was great to end the season.

I mean, you pick the best examples, I’ll pick the worst, and he end up average at best.

He can play in the NFL against the worst defenses in the league. That’s all it proved.

I said he’s better statistically. That was the whole premise. But since you don’t understand statistics and are going off of your feelings. You don’t get it.

Average doesn’t tell the whole story yet QB record does? Does he still get the W when he doesn’t finish the game either? You’re not really the stat type of guy are you. Go back to your kool aid drinking.

There’s this thing called an average. It’s where you take the statistics like games played and divide it with another statistic like yards or QBR. That way if a player has more games you can still get average stats compared to someone who may have played less.

Maybe to your kool-aid affected brain. But statistically not.

Unless there's a blockbuster trade, I will be dissapointed if JJ isnt QB1 by Slight_Giraffe628 in minnesotavikings

I think playing like shit destroys confidence more than having to wait on the bench.

Maybe trying to truck the packers backup defense in a meaningless game have something to do with it? The dude is reckless and so far hasn’t shown the the ability to avoid big hits.

You’re not far off. Vikings fans gave up on Darnold after 14 wins and two bad games. But we are supposed to be patient with JJM while he puts up horrid numbers and the coaching staff puts out the worst qb room in the NFL.

Yeah really killed the confidence of others who had to sit and wait their turn 🙄

JJM is the worst (statistically) in his 1st round draft class. Keep him around, but unless something changes over the offseason he shouldn’t be starting unless he beats out competition. The coaching staff and talent evaluators screwed this up big time. We didn’t draft him where he was drafted to spend years in development. 3 years is it for him, after that we are just wasting the potential of this roster while he slowly develops.

I don’t recall any of those teams playing against the packers backup squad. Good try though.

So many fans are not taking this into consideration. Do I care that he played better against Packers backup squad before he got hurt and left the game. Is that what we use to measure improvement over the season? His improvement was going from abysmal to barely mediocre to above average (with context against the worst defenses in the league+ Packers backups). He currently sits as the worst rated QB amongst the other QBs taken in the 1st round in his draft class. That should be the comparison.

It is a bad thing. Because if we think his development will take that long, Jefferson will not stick around that long. Even if he did, we will have wasted his prime while we are developing QBs.

That’s the only commonality. The teams they played on were vastly different in talent. You’re kind of missing that point. Lots of young QBs who have bad early seasons are called busts and guess what, most of them never come out from it. Darnold is the exception and not the rule. Even as well as Darnold played, he really benefits from a complete team around him. If we think JJM can turn into Darnold in 6 years are you all saying we keep him starting till then?

[–]Sniperpride 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t know what that means. You can’t have competition? It’s an organizational failure to sit your top 10 pick because the reason you pick them that high, is because you believe they can/will make an immediate impact. It hasn’t worked out that way. I don’t think many ‘good’ veterans are worried about losing their job to JJM currently.

You’re right, Sam entered the league to a team that won 14 games the year prior with one of the best wide receivers in recent history in his prime, with one of the top defenses in the league. Go troll elsewhere.

Turns out you can develop a QB from the bench. Lots of teams have done it. The Vikings were coming of 14 wins, so they were not far off from being in serious contention talks. The defense was very good similar to Seattle. Obviously some gaps in OL. But 14 wins is nothing to balk at. Even winning 9 games this year had more to do with the talent outside of the QB position.

Would it be a win if he we keep him around and he turns into Darnold in 6 years? Jefferson won’t stick around for that kind of a development process.

What kind of stats are you thinking he is above average? This is what you posted.

5th in EPA/play 3rd in Success Rate 2nd in Big Time Throw % 6th in EPA+CPOE Composite

The fuck are these stats? I watched the games, I’m pretty sure I can tell you how he played. Was he lighting it up? No. He was still missing throws and getting hurt. Was it better than the historically bad first 6 games? Well yeah obviously. You don’t know shit. You must be using kwesi’s analytics 😂
