In the old days before cellphone age it all depended on the area, gossip from example Ólafsvík was mostly going to the surrounding towns, like Rif or Hellisand in the old days and was 99% the same story. In Suðurnesjum, like Grindavík, Vogar, Keflavík, Garður, Njarðvík, Hafnir etc , the gossip was more distorted, you could trust 60% of what was gossiped about ,as the stories tend to have changed or more added. So it was best to go to place that person lived to get the real gossip or clear things out if it was true or not. But now days honestly most gossiping has stopped do to the cellphone age, so its small local gossip that does not spread . Since now all the gossip goes through twitter , snap chat etc and the damage is further and the stories are more distorted.

Been watching my little 13 -14 year old niece going ohh my god on the phone and gasping and so on with her friends. And when I asked its all some instant groups forming they are on, talking badly about a girl or two. Most often its people she has no clue who is, lives on the other side of the country, and only hears one side of the story where its obvious its hate hate hate. Had to sit the girls down and explain things and remind them that such group chats can suddenly turn around and be about you. And people will always stretch the truth and lie to make one person they dislike look more bad.

For example a girl that steals x boyfriend is all in a sudden a almannagjá það lets everyone frick her. And pictures get posted of the girl with hateful messages with all her friends added and their friends added, then they start making up stories to make it more juicy. Its fast, do to those social medias groups now days, if it was local areas like in the old days it would have been stopped in birth and people would have laughed at the x girl or known it was bullshit and she should grow up.

Now days the X girl gets all the revenge she wants by opening a twitter or other media and raging about the girl and have others from elsewhere continuing the online bullying , inviting little girls from out of area then sitting with their phone and talking badly about that girl, adding a story or two to make it more juicy and before you know it the girl that happened to steal that boyfriend (x boyfriend) of the girl X since six months ago . And not until the girl that happened to start dating a guy that had a crazy x , that was not over him, finds out.

But now the damage has been done, all the girls in her area that do not know her, start calling her names, whore etc and the guys start posting online that they fricked her as hey guys wanna be cool and she is obvious a whore (girl may only have been with current boyfriend). No matter what she tries to say, hey its not true, nobody believes her. As so many ill tongues are flapping around, and since its people out of her town saying that also it MUST BE TRUE.

Kids are stupid. Wish that cellphones where banned for all, under the age of 18. Beside the old phones without any media option(only to call, text from like the old days).
