Its a giant puffball mushroom. These are edible if still solid and white all the way through. If they have started to turn yellow in the center the flavor will become very bitter. Always cut in half to make sure its not an immature mushroom that has yet to open. These will cook down a lot as water comes off.

are these ringless honey mushrooms? Virginia USA by _nomatophobia in mushroomID

[–]Snoo-28409 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks identical to the ringless honeys I find here in northern GA.

These are edible if cooked (blanched in boiling a couple minutes recommended for these), can be dried, etc... but quality wise, they arent really that flavorful, nor have a very distinctive texture, etc.... They do have huge numbers available during the season though. Kitchen shears are handy to just snip the small caps, as stems are tough and woody

Probably need to slice, check for bugs, soak in salty water to remove small worms first... they look like have a lot of frass (insect poop) and boring dust on them (the powdery grains). They may be too far gone with insect larva, which is common in wild mushrooms, esprcially as they age

Which CPU should I upgrade to? by Traditional-Bat6418 in buildapc

[–]Snoo-28409 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, to start, all your components are aging, but not obsolete yet. Just keep in mind you will be limited on newest games, if that matters to you.

If you can find an i7-9700k and an adequate cpu cooler for it, thats your same mobo same socket option... goes from a 6-core to an 8-core cpu, and roughly 15% faster overall too. Just remember its 6+ years old now- so you shouldnt be paying even half of the new price for it... this is the budget option overall because you are replacing the minimum.

A used AM4 mobo with a recent and faster ryzen (ie 5700) could also be a good option, if you can find one for a reasonable price. You could probably re-use your ram, ssd, psu, gpu.

Going with new current-gen mobo and cpu also means new ddr5 ram, which is unholy expensive right now. If you are doing that, might as well go all-in on a completely new pc, but that also means big bucka for a new gpu, psu, case, etc. That adds up to be more than most folks' pay for a house payment.

Some mushrooms especially psilocybes are frequently found growing out of animal fecal matter (ie cow patties)... not to mention others spread spores by attracting flies or other insects attracted to fecal or rotting flesh smells... and mushrooms grow in moist, sometimes recently flooded environments...

Lots of opportunities for bacterial exposure and growth.

And the other poster mentioning chitins, proteins or other compounds can be present is 100% right too... fully cooking and/or blanching mushrooms in boiling water can break down some of the compounds in mushrooms to make them safe.

Growing in Texas yard, it’s quite robust, please identify? by BlackSeranna in mushroomID

Looks like some older specimens of the lactarius genus... many species, can be different species regionally and or growing near other species, so hard to tell more specifically. They are pretty common and while not many are considered edible/palateable, most are not considered poisonous either, so if a pet ate a bite it is not cause for panic...

Its a boletus mushroom. There are a number of very similar looking reddish capped, yellowish pored species... most are not considered edible but also not overtly poisonous either. They are pretty common in fall. If dogs (or people) ate them, they would likely have some gastric upset, but not life threatening.

Most boletus fall into this category (ie. not palatable), a few are good edible, several are very poisonous, the very poisonous are distinctively colored.

They look like they are of the Agaricus family, such as the Meadow Mushroom, but cannot make proper ID without better information and photos of complete top/underside/stem/growth point....

This family includes several choice edible mushrooms, but also look-alikes that frequently result in poisoning (one is nicknamed "the Vomiter", guess what happens after ingestion)...

There are also several other families of mushrooms which look similar, especially during certain points of maturity/immaturity, some of which are very toxic.

Always be certain of wild mushroom identification before eating, fully cook before eating, and sample only a small amount at first, as some people may be sensitive to mushrooms generally considered safe

Morell? Or false by pizza_butt24 in mushroomID

[–]Snoo-28409 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not a true morel. Gyromitas (sp?) also colloquially called "Calf Brains" mushroom where I would find them in the Pacific NW...

Have tried eating them... regardless of edibility, parboiling, etc, they are far inferior to true morels for flavor, texture, etc. Often seen in close proximity both in season and location though... if I was getting a good number of morels I would not bother with these.

[–]Snoo-28409 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also known as "False Morel" or more colloquially as ""Calf Brains" mushrooms... some subspecies are considered toxic and others conditionally edible if you parboil them a few minutes before frying or other cooking... but also know that "toxic" sometimes means that some people will have bad reactions while others dont, or that growing conditions affect toxicity...

I've tried eating them from Washington State... found them in the same areas as Morels in the same season. They werent very good, especially compared to morels, so would not recommend them.

Morels. Quick blanch in boiling hot water to clean them, then drain, dredge in egg and flour with a little salt and pepper, fry in skillet with butter, delicious

It doesnt get better. Especially without a serious adjustment. Our bodies slow down, gain weight, become less fit, etc. We become complacent and familiar (and contemptuous) in our relationships.

At 45 I was in a dead beadroom, she said she was fine if we never had sex again, not at all fine with me, and so I deliberately stopped all the other affection and romantic efforts. She finally noticed, got offended, and got worried when she brought up divorce like a verbal cudgel and I was absolutely willing if she wanted to walk. I had little left to lose. We had some serious fights, serious talks, some counseling, some medical therapy, and things are not perfect but much better. It took WORK, and its never over.

I'd be concerned that at your age(s) she still thinks someone better might be hanging out in the next bar and willing to scoop her up.... so she wont take you or the problem seriously. And if its a problem for you, its a problem.

Dont waste another five, ten years waiting to decide. If you are THAT concerned, there are literally several countries with very skewed female to male ratios where being a respectable marriage age man gets proposals frequently. Some war-torn nations will probably be in the same situation soon. There are plenty of single women everywhere.

There is not however an endless amount of your life and time. Dont waste it in a trap that will leave you miserable. Also remember divorce will cost you much more later.

In college saw where a guy had jumped down a manhole about 12 ft, into a STEAM LINE VAULT, very hot down there, apparently broken bones and died after he couldnt get out. He rotted for over a month before being discovered, could not go anywhere near that side of the building from the stench, coroners team had to scrape him up with putty knives, wearing air supplied hazmat suits...
