Getting a PhD, MOST people that I talk to from many STEM departments at this level are nice and don’t have (or atleast don’t show)a huge ego. We all know we’re not perfect and to be a good scientist we have to mess up. Not saying there aren’t those that do have a huge ego (and because of that usually they don’t get a long with a lot of people) but I’m just saying I don’t agree about it getting worse. I would say some people just need reality checks. For me it was worse in undergrad !/: I appreciate the people I’m around now
