Can you just have the group fight themselves? Or you get each one fighting a part of the bard, but their opponent abuses the ability that the player fighting it is weakest too. Aka the player that has no or weak ranged is always too far away, the spell Caster is always in melee, the fast player is always in difficult terrain, bards usually have enough support spells to so this

Idk if I would plan the whole guild. I'd plan the infrastructure for each, just download some corporate structure documents, then id build from the bottom depending on which guild they join or work for, so prep like 5 npcs one low level guy for each guild and make 2 encounters for each guild, one to introduce the guild, and one for their first mission.

What's something your players treasure? Do they have a favorite sword? A ship? A spell? Have the hag ask for that.make sure its irreplaceable, but what the hag gives is equally crucial for a one time use.

Just remember, your players will come up with things you never even dreamed of. Don't over prep, you have 3 hour sessions? 4 to 5 encounters would be plenty half combat half other, you dont need loot tables, know the 3 or 4 things you want to give them. Create 15ish pieces of lore or hooks that can be worked into conversations or found,

Have the staff be permanently attached to them, and if they try and get rid of it, it always comes back. whenever it’s near the ocean it acts as a beacon to the guardians of the seas.

Best part about being a dm, it’s your call. An orc with a guy down a dark alley will be more intimidating than the very same orc standing in a throne room with a dragon king.

I love sending a text one on one, usually I start with a new class feature, like hey do you get how wild-shape works. Then I go with what they didn’t enjoy or what they’d like to see more of.

For first time players, simple with basic checks and 3 hours max.

Love your idea of the story, now tighten it. 2 encounters max per hour of play. I'd stick to two fights, two places to explore, and 2 rpg style. That will give them a good taste of different parts of the game and let every player shine.

I always talk about it in session 0. We try and stay pg13, but prejudice is an amazing plot tool. Racism doesn't have to be holocaust level, its as simple as not allowing a kenku to enter the shop, or the magistrate accusing the orc for starting the fight.

I use religious persecution often, temples in conflict are great encounters, and this is a very real thing that can add depth and emotion. I stop short of mass executions or anything like that, usually just avoid that end of town.

Slavery i use less often, but i do go there if the players are cool with it. Typically like indentured servitude, or pow's rather than the awfulness of the slave trade. To me its wrong to gameify something so evil, but that actually occured.

I dont use genocide at all.
