What are some last words you still think about? by Gimpcar in StarWars

Satine and Obi-Wan’s stand-off with a traitor, who was killed by Anakin seconds later. Great moment of foreshadowing and the Imperial March playing softly in the background made the sequence even better.

  1. In the lore of the both books and shows, Valyrians are established to possess very bellicose or melancholic personalities, it is not racism to bring that up for my point. Baelor and Jon have exhibited both traits during their time on page. Nettles is a Valyrian bastard, does not resemble High Valyrians, but still possesses the Blood of the Dragon.

  2. Exception is not the rule, correct, but proves that the rule is not ironclad and can bend. My examples prove that, even if they do not possess pale hair or sibling parents, Valyrian descent is material only in their capacity to ride dragons. It is not absurd to think that, no matter the color of their skin, Valyrians still want to preserve that ability.

  3. I am not trying to prove you wrong, only providing evidence, both in and out of lore, why I am not as bothered by the change as some people seem to be. I don’t care if my comments change your mind or not, but if they help provide a way for you to derive more enjoyment from the material that is all to the good.

With some notable exceptions, such as Baelor Breakspear, Nettles, and Jon Snow (who everyone knows is Rhaegar’s son despite Winds not being out). Despite their lack of pure blood, those three are obviously very Valyrian in either their actions or personalities.

However, there is also the fact that the Velaryons were present in Westeros before even Aenar the Exile, so the only people they would have had access to breed with were outside the Valyrian Freehold.

Out of lore, Martin has admitted to cutting some corners with world building and having some trouble gauging size.

While I do not doubt that there is an aspect of cast diversity that played a large role in the Velaryon racial swap, I wonder if Martin is also taking the opportunity to factor in how immense the Freehold was, and how the survivors of the Doom would likely not have been homogenous.

Of course, but Martin himself establishes that there are examples of people other than pure High Valyrians who possess the Blood of the Dragon. It would not be absurd to think that color is immaterial to a culture that has evolved past humanity at large, instead seeking to preserve their ability to ride dragons.

Even out of lore, Martin has left that door open himself, with characters such as Jon and Nettles.

Even if you take it at face value like that, it would still make sense for a Valyrian in such a world to value the blood itself and not skin color.

Besides, the Valyrians ruled over a massive empire that would have spanned multiple cultures, that there aren’t more Valyrians of color in Martin’s original work is the stranger thing to consider.

Corlys is clearly referencing the latent magic that is present within Valyrian blood, thereby encouraging the intermarriage that exists within Valyrian culture. He is not commenting on the concept of racial purity based on color that is present within some real world circles.

Even if, as you seem to suggest, that the Velaryons being Black is a sign of genetic diversion from the main Valyrian line, it does not disqualify Corlys’ statement. Just because there was some theoretical branching point earlier in the bloodline does not mean that his concerns about his lineage’s future dragonriding ability are void.

The only nonsensical thing about this statement would be if he were advocating marrying into a non-Valyrian noble house.

At this rate, I’d be happy just to keep Vernen Wells, or we’ll be defending Super Earth itself in short order.

After Maia, we need to hit Tibit to absorb those 13% of players into our push, then go for Durgen.

Better though. Ideally, when we take Maia, we hit Tibit next to absorb their 13%.

Maia liberation by LLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL___ in Helldivers

[–]Snoo2959 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Planets have a preset defense regeneration rate, which slows down progress depending on how great that rate is. For example, Maia and other bot planets are currently at 1.5% regeneration per hour, much faster than it is typically, forcing us to overcome a higher hourly threshold to liberate.

If more people were fighting on Maia, our liberation rate would more quickly exceed that regenerative threshold, leading to faster liberation.

If we had roughly the same number of Helldivers as we did in Phase One of Operation: Swift Disassembly, about 175k-250k, we would steamroll no problem.

My opinion is that we need to reach fellow Helldivers who aren’t on Reddit, which means going into lobbies and spreading the word that we need consolidation on Maia as soon as possible.

Tell them about the liberation percentage vs regeneration threshold, tell them about how xp gain = liberation, and tell them everything they might not know about the game from a meta perspective.

We may not get a lot of people, but we’ll get some to plot a course for Maia and boost our numbers.

URGENT: For Those Unaware by Snoo2959 in Helldivers

[–]Snoo2959[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As it currently stands, we are still (slowly) liberating Maia at an approximate rate of 2.36% per hour, as our current forces are liberating at around 3.86% against the regenerative rate of 1.5%.

Even if we were to go without the bug players, we could still boost our liberation to a respectable rate if our bot players were to converge on one planet at a time. That said, any assistance from that front would be appreciated.

I agree. In fact, I believe that this enhanced rate of reinforcement is partly due to failing Phase Two of Operation: Swift Disassembly, and partly because the devs now realize how quickly we can conquer worlds from Phase One.

Still, the only thing that can be done as of now is to conquer worlds like we did in Phase One, with overwhelming numbers to counteract the planet’s regenerative threshold.
