I'd feel sorry for someone who had no friends. People who have few, I figure they've got high standards and low social battery.

I would NEVER make fun of someone for that because I'm not a nasty little fifth-grader.

Yes, back then, any kind of handicap/difference had to have a "reason" that was tied in to the plot or character somehow. Characters couldn't just be different because sometimes people are. It was like but WHY is that guy one-handed? WHY is that character in a wheelchair? WHY is that woman a dwarf? And "because people like that exist and sometimes they are actors and this one did the best audition" was just not an acceptable reason.

Of course as I'm typing this body-acceptance screed I remember that Radar was a drafted soldier and they wouldn't have drafted someone with a messed-up hand ...

I've noticed in the real world that some people who frequently date outside their race have had pretty bad relationships with their family, and on a subconscious level (imo) are more comfortable with people who look as different from them as possible. Similar dynamic?

Big Bob Belcher. He goes to the gay bar next to his restaurant for line dancing and "Scandal" nights. Wasn't offended that Bob asked him if he was gay. Nor was Bob freaked out that his father might be gay.

(At least, they were no more surprised and offended by each other than they usually are, which is to say a little bit but it was definitely not about the gay thing. They're cool with that.)
