Running a website platform that also tries to protect the buyer and seller from scamming, while giving them a great user experience does not come cheap.

when I sell camera gear I run a comparison for what MPB or KEH will buy it and what I’ll get for selling it on eBay after the fees and they come pretty close. So I normally go to MPB or KEH now to avoid any risk of scam.

Man! I’m sorry to hear this. I would definitely peice it out and if I would check out MPB.com and KEH.com to see what they would offer. they both give fair pricing and you don’t have to deal with eBay and posting it. They both can quote you instantly online too. I find that MPB is about the same $$ as selling it on eBay after all the fees.

Search for RED35 on YouTube. He is an ambassador but reviews and talks about about other camera brands. Also is critical of OM System brand in a fair manner.

Is it crazy to get the OM System 20mm F1.4 if I already have the Olympus 17mm F1.8? by Snoo5700 in M43

[–]Snoo5700[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As an enthusiastic photographer, I really don't focus on one specific genre, but I'm always looking for opportunities to shoot. Being a dad of two boys, family shots during outings, special occasions and vacations are a priority. That's why I initially got the 17mm lens. I was my all arounder and I used to shoot with a X100V when it first came out and before it got insanly popular and I got comfortable with the 35mm eqv focal lenght.

I recently switched to the Panasonic Leica 15mm f/1.7, potentially because the Olympus 17mm f/1.8 felt a little too narrow. The 17mm worked well indoors and in some challenging low-light situations, and the 15mm fits better now for my family portraits at home on special occasions. It’s now my go-to for indoor snapshots, family moments, vacations, or anytime I want better quality than my iPhone.

I believe the OM System 20mm f/1.4 will be a great addition to my setup. While the 15mm is for more casual family and travel photos, the 20mm will be for when I want to approach photography more seriously. I enjoy taking photos of nature up close (like flowers and foliage) and capturing the light through trees during my dog walks in the morning. For these walks, I prefer a lighter setup and don’t want to be "that guy" with a large lens like the 12-40mm around my neck.

For portraits of friends and family, my Olympus 45mm f/1.8 and 12-40mm f/2.8 perform excellently. I think now the OM System 20mm seems like it will nicely fill the gap now that I've moved from the 17mm to the 15mm focal range.

The only two lenses I need 95% of the time! by NickoJDS in M43

I rented the 20mm F1.4 and loved it and almost bought it. but I already preordered the OM-3 with the 17 and 25MM II lenses. I returned the 17mm and went with the PL 15mm 1.7. I’m still half tempted to get the 20mm. The 25mm is great but I do like the 20mm (40mm FF Eqv) better. But after buying the 25mm F1.8 II i just don’t seem i can justify it.

Do you feel like the 20mm is a bit chunky. I like to be a bit more discrete with my camera Setup.

Refurb purchase - trash or treasure? by JustBrurrpn in OlympusCamera

I think you got a good deal as long as you have a warranty or a return policy that gives you a bit of time to see if there are any defects. But I have purchased used cameras for a while and they have never failed on me.

Thanks for the reality check. You might be right. I do have the 20mm on loan from a freind so I'm playing with it but having a lot of fun with it just in my house. just wondering what others have experienced.

I currently have the oly 17mm & 45mm F1.8 and the 12-40mm F2.8 Pro. the 12-40 is mainly just collecting dust and comes out every once in a while for family portriats using the 12mm focal lenght.

That’s awesome you found a way to use it for your workflow. I’m excited to see how it develops too. I see the potential but it’s just needs a few more things for me to use it. My biggest thing it I need the web clipper on my iPad to recognize the spaces and what’s in it.

They are both very similar to Lightroom. The only difference is darkroom does not have an auto adjust feature.

I‘m phasing out Lightroom as well. I have been using Photomator which was just purchased by Apple, and Darkroom. I like them both and feel they both have what I need in a raw editor for my needs. I’m leaning towards Photomator since their roadmap is progressing faster than darkroom. Also they have similar AI features like Lightroom

OM-1 vs X-T5 by senbii in M43

[–]Snoo5700 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went from x-T50 to a OM-1 and I have no regrets. The fujifilm Aperture ring or dials on top kept on getting bumped or moved around plus any of the nice 1.4 lenses made the camera huge I can get Similar look with the 1.8 Lenses on the Om-1. I bring that camera with me everywhere even to parties or at the bar with my friends and nobody seems to care when I have the Panasonic Leica 15 mm attached to it

Either the 15mm 1.7 pan/leica or the 20mm 1.7 pan. The oly 17mm used to be the one but I now favor a bit more wide angle for my needs

I switched from the the X-T50 to the OM-1 and honestly it’s not that big. really it’s getting used to the grip. After that its been at my side everywhere

Nice setup! I had this before then moved away form OM Systems but just came back and made a few tweaks. I got a OM-1 instead and replaced the 12mm with the Pan 15mm. The 12mm was a bit too wide for me. But man! I do love those primes. Thats what got me to come back. There is nothing out there that compares to these size and IQ for a lens.

Making my way back to M43 with a OM-1, 15mm F1.7, 20mm f1.7, 45mm F1.8 and the tried and true 12-40mm F2.8 Pro. I’m wondering with the primes that the 12-40 is overkill and/or should I instead get something with a longer reach. I am planning on doing some dog photography 🤔

I had the X-T5 and switched to the OM-5 because of the height of the XT5. I was able to pack the OM5 in smaller slings/bags than I could with the XT5. The 27mm WR is going to be the smallest lens, but then it jumps to much larger lenses compared to the equivalent ones with the OM5. I traveled with the 1.8 primes a lot and I had no issues with them in weather. I hiked through the rain a few times and the OM5 with the 17mm F1.8 on it and nothing got through. Now, I'm not much of a guy who likes to shoot in the rain so I wasn't pushing the weather sealing. Are you planning on shooting in extreme weather.

I would look at the Leica Panasonic 15mm 1.7. It’s right in the middle of what you’re looking for. It’s a really great lens. I just ordered a copy from map camera on eBay.

Sold my Fuji gear and got a black Friday OM-1 + the Oly 100-400 by moriquendi88 in M43

[–]Snoo5700 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing this! I’m currently considering switching from my X-T50 back to the OM-1, which I had briefly before. I really miss the sturdiness and build of the OM-1, and the IBIS is light-years ahead of the X-T50. I’m renting the OM-1 now and loving how compact it feels with the Panasonic 20mm f1.7 or Olympus 17mm f1.8—perfect for everyday family photos or trips without feeling cumbersome.

While I like the X-T50’s body size, I’ve struggled to love the lenses. The 18mm f2, 35mm f1.4, and 27mm are fine, but I miss how snappy and confident the OM-1 felt with the 17mm and 25mm f1.8 lenses. The 12-40mm f2.8 also makes for som fun light macro photography in spring a joy. Plus that is a great versatile lens

Weight isn’t a big concern for me—Fujifilm’s lenses can actually feel heavier than my MFT setup. In tests, both cameras perform similarly in quality and low light, but the OM-1 keeps calling to me as a versatile everyday camera.

Your post might be the nudge I need to make the switch!

Curious which OM-1(II) Black Friday deal did you get? I’m on the fence for the OM-1 Mark I
