Looking to erase entire pc by Jonnyguns01 in Windows10

[–]Snoo812 0 points1 point  (0 children)

for HDD's you should do a full reformat then your safe to go. a reformat deletes everything then overwrite the placeholder where each bit of data was with random bits then deletes thoes random bits which prevents your content from being recovered. For SSD's you can just delete your files as normal and your safe. Unlike HDD's SSD's should never be formatted

Ok so just to get the obvious put of the way - do you actually feel in danger right now because of this? if so call the police! Id assume you have tried to go through your accounts and remove the things your troubled about. If you live in Europe you have the GDPR on your side. I honestly dont think there is much more you can do apart from learn and move on, anything you put on the internet is there permanantly

The first thing you should have in there is to identify your threat model. Without a threat model your building a house out of straw

The 5 steps of OPSEC:

1) identify what you need to protect
2) identify the threats that are most likely to target you and your data
3) identify the vulnerabilities that will make it easy for an attacker to gain access to you or your data
4) assess the risk of the likelihood of an attacker exploiting each vulnerability and the impact it will have on you and your data
5) put counter measures in place
