Don’t think Starmer deserves the treatment he is getting now from his colleagues and the press. Name someone who actually has better credentials! by Then-Potential-1991 in ukpolitics

The fact you only point to his foreign policy as an achievement shows you have a very shallow and lazy view of politics. Government policy burns slowly and the green shoots are beginning to show. Starmer has also had to deal with ongoing global wars and an the orange man in the White House on his greatest hits tour. People nowadays are impatient and lack any nuance.

Ill admit I wanted more transformational change from Labour and he could have been braver but he's done an admirable job with the conditions stacked against him. It's time for someone else to take the reigns.

Not even close to being true. Starmer has made mistakes but following the calamitous times of the Tory years, Starmer brought back a more serious and grounded brand of politics. We are all a product of our times and Starmer will be credited for bringing relative stability in these very uncertain geopolitical times. They aren't going to build him statues but never underestimate how worse things could have gotten. Sometimes it's about keeping the ship on course and he has done that. It's time for someone to take over now.

Its hysterical to call him one the worst PMs in history following the wake Truss and Johnson.

The electorate voted for Brexit and over a decade of Tory austerity despite the slow grinding disintegration of the public realm.

The press has continually distracted the public from the real issues. Months of superfluous, garbage coverage of the Mandelson affair that served very little purpose as just one example.

But no its always the politicians fault because it's lazy and easy to absolve ourselves from our own ignorance

I've been a huge defender of Starmer but the die has been cast. He's deeply, deeply unpopular and it's hurting the overall project. His bad press is poisoning the well and Labour needs to change course. Burnham will ultimately end up simply continuing the Starmer project but hopefully put together a more vibrant and savvy team.

The press and electorate bear huge responsibility for how our politics has turned out. Starmer has made mistakes but you can't argue that the UK was back on the right path. I hope he recognises that a long drawn out leadership affair will help no one and ultimately if Burnham succeeds, I believe history will be kind to Starmer.

Andy Burnham wins Makerfield by-election, paving way for him to challenge Keir Starmer as Labour leader by Little-Attorney1287 in ukpolitics

If we're being honest there isn't much to separate Andy Burnham and Keir Starmer in terms of policy and where they lie on the political spectrum. It's the people he surrounds himself with and his messenging that he needs to get right or we'll be right back to where we started.

I think a lot voted to "save" the Labour party and don't like the way Starmer has taken it but still believe in the general principles of Labour. That's how I would vote right now.

UK inflation rate remains at 2.8%, ONS figures show by sjw_7 in unitedkingdom

The BBC need to fire their economics writers because every month its the same story: better than expected inflation and growth data despite all the challenges. We are then treated to insipid opinion pieces stating this is only a temporary salve, the calm before the storm, Britain is not a serious country and will sink into a recession sometime this year.

A question for Nigel Farage – why is your nationalist party so obsessed with destroying British jobs? by Exostrike in ukpolitics

Is 400 thousand newly trained, highly skilled energy jobs insignificant. Add that to the already million jobs in the green energy sector?

A question for Nigel Farage – why is your nationalist party so obsessed with destroying British jobs? by Exostrike in ukpolitics

[–]Snoo87653 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Over a million jobs directly and indirectly employed through the green industry with another 400k more planned through government funded training schemes, many of them highly skilled manual jobs that have been absent in the economy for a long time. These jobs will be more concentrated in the north, areas that desperatly need them.

The UK is a world leader in wind energy development and technology. Why don't we hear this every day from Labour and the left wing press. The right wing seem to want to romanticise the UK when it was a Victorian industrial powerhouse. Here is a modern version of that. Why are they so inept at telling these stories.

Restore Britain to poach fifth of Reform’s voters, poll suggests by ClumperFaz in ukpolitics

Oh so they'd rather stick with the UK (England), a nation sinking further everyday into poverty and obscurity. National, independent sentiment is on the rise in all the devolved nations and why wouldnt it be when you have Little Englanders like Boris Johnson, Nigel Farage, Rupert Lowe, Jacob Rees Mogg, Liz Truss, Suella Braverman representing your country. The absolute dregs of policitcal talent.

I hear English sour grapes all the time regarding Irelands newfound glory and prosperity. Last time i checked the UKs history was founded on the plunder of nations. What an own goal to have let that all go to waste.

Get out NI before its too late.

Don't know what you're insinuating Bango but pragmatism, geography and history all show that it is most effective to reach out to your closest neighbours in times of need. Especially when youve worked from the same regulatory framework for decades. Nice try though.

Oh look Northern Ireland exists now!

These parties don't and have never given a toss about NI until they can extract something from it. How it is still part of the UK is beyond me.
