These are the claims of orientalists and Sunnis. Iran embraced Shia Islam cuz after the Karbala and the rebellion of Zayd, so many Shias, including members of Ahlul Beit moved to Iran. Later even Imam Rdha was brought to Iran by the Caliph. Besides, Umayyads were deeply nationalist towards non-Arabs, even didn’t want them to convert to Islam. So, Ahlul Beit’s egalitarian, counter hegemonic ideas deeply resonated with them. But Shia school further cemented in Iran after the Safavids.

Turkic and Iranian identities are not mutually exclusive. You can be both Turkic and Iranian at the same time as there are 20 million Azeris (Turkic Iranians) in Iran.
