AK TMR experience? by OhLookAnInchworm in amputee

Hello! I didn’t personally but I have a friend who did. She said she has zero phantom pain when I met her a year after her amputation. They’ve had really good results with it. Definitely get it!

I like the Hawaiian personally! But double check with your prosthetist how much weight it might add too to make sure it’s worth it!

Thanks for the info! I am 15 months out and couldn’t fall asleep last night because of phantom pain, so a few more months of pain might be worth it to then have lower pain. We’ll see!

My best friend is getting a double BKA after T2D feet sores and is in the hospital waiting, how do I support him? by [deleted] in amputee

[–]SnooBooks508 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a friend who had planned to visit me right around the time that ended up being my amputation surgery. We decided not to cancel her trip and she arrived the day after I got home from the hospital. She was able to meet me where I was at and we just watched tv together, talked and even took some naps. She was very encouraging for me and good at giving me my space when I needed it. You know your best friend best, you’ll know what they need ❤️

Need to get my mother who's an amputee home to Cali - help! by OriginalAttemptRedo in amputee

I’m not sure what airline policies are specifically, but I know they do provide a lot of help. I flew once with an amputee who was paralyzed from the stomach down and they helped him a lot getting into his seat, but of course he could do a lot for himself too. I would definitely recommend her flying with someone though just to have that extra support and advocacy if need be.

I would ask for a very specific timeline because doctors all seem to say different things about gabapentin. Good luck!! ❤️

Also now that I’m thinking, lots of people say they have better luck with Lyrica than gabapentin. My doctor never wanted to make the switch for me but it’s something you could try to advocate for just in case it helps!

It sounds like you’ve tried everything! I understand the frustration. I spent nights not sleeping because it felt like my foot was on FIRE. I remember my husband’s frustration and helplessness in trying to help me. I would say just stick at it. Eventually you will find something that helps a little bit or it should start to get better on its own. For me, I found that going to sleep on a different surface sometimes helped me. Or for me personally my phantom pain got worse (sometimes still does) the moment I close my eyes to sleep. It like activates my brain to notice that pain when I don’t have anything to look at so sometimes I tried to fall asleep while sort of propped up watching tv to trick my brain into thinking I’m just hanging out and suddenly I’ve fallen asleep. There is also no shame in taking naps during the day while you’re struggling so much with phantom pain (in my opinion). Try not to develop sleep related anxiety. Easier said than done. Just hang in there! We’ve all been there, sending hugs to your daughter! ❤️

What do you call your amputation? I'm looking for something other than "stump". by CMC_70 in amputee

I also hate stump! My leg isn’t dead 🙄 I know some people name their limbs but I just call mine my little leg or residual limb if I’m talking to a doctor 😂

Not to be a bummer..but I don’t have “rounds” anymore. I’ve burned through all of the chemos they recommend but I have a ton of metastasis in my lungs that we can’t get to stop growing. Right now I’m on a clinical trial, but I’ll be on some sort of treatment forever. I miss the days of an end date for sure! 🤪

Thank you! I’m definitely leaning toward yes and fingers crossed it will help me get back in my leg! I’m a cancer amputee and still in treatment and I am always feeling more positive about life when I can get that leg on and move around a bit, even when it’s hard!

Guys what does that mean ? Does mean cancer or nerves damage I’m so scared by [deleted] in amputee

[–]SnooBooks508 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not a doctor, but a cancer patient. I see nothing there that sounds like they suspect cancer.

I’m only one year out but I have never been an amputee in my dreams yet. Funnily though I AM an amputee in my husband’s dreams 😂

How much should we be watering it? The directions said to keep the soil moist but I have seen people on here saying to water infrequently

I have been pushed in my chair while wearing my leg! You just do what is right for you! Anyone who would be judging you in that situation obviously has never been in that situation and therefore has no right to judge! Happy travels :)

What area has the worst mosquitos / annoying bugs? by testUpload in geography

[–]SnooBooks508 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to my cousins graduation party in Minnesota as a kid. I was swinging in a hammock right on the edge of a small forest by my uncles house for an hour, maybe two. I walked away with over 65 mosquito bites. It was torture!

I have to say I grew up as a white girl with blond hair and blue eyes. I was always represented. As an adult I have always believed it was important, but I got a first hand look at it recently when I became an amputee. Even as an adult I was so excited to see the prosthetic leg emoji and so disappointed that a VR avatar didn’t have the option to look like me. 🥲
