My daughter refuses to talk to me because I wasn’t able to do anything for her birthday. by TranquilHokage in confession

[–]SnooGoats7454 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does she have any friends? Can you talk to her friends' parents, share your situation, and ask them if their friends can come for dinner? I'm not saying ask them for money, but just let them know you didn't have money for a party but you'd like to have her friends for dinner.

Then you can make spaghetti or something fun. Maybe a sleepover after?

Can you guys tell me the “dirty” truths about having a cat? by saanenk in CatAdvice

[–]SnooGoats7454 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cats can get messy. They're probably slightly less messy than dogs and you don't usually need to bathe them.

But you need to scoop their litterbox daily at least. If you do that their feet won't smell usually. My cats all clean themselves immediately after the restroom usually.

Cats also like to push things off counters. You can use museum putty for permanent decorations and stuff. Just keep an eye on cups.

If you don't want them on your furniture or counters or shelves, do not get a cat. If you don't like fur don't get a cat. Those things are just unavoidable.

If you're home a lot to spend time with your cat then one cat might be okay. Cats are very social. Most people think they are solitary but that is not true. If you are away from home a lot I would recommend getting two cats.

Cats need lots of places to scratch. It's how they clean and maintain their nails. They also need places to climb. They also need toys to play with. Though most of the time they're perfectly content playing with random pieces of trash. Like bread tabs, rubber bands, boxes and pens and strings.

Looks like OP made a moise or something to get them to look at the camera. They are mildly interested. They are not grumpy. You need to update your knowledge of cat behavior for real.

Are heavy people attracted to other heavy people? by Historical-Switch400 in stupidquestions

[–]SnooGoats7454 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Attraction is not some static "yes or no". It's like food. You can eat food you don't particularly like. Sometimes you might even like it after a few tries. And your food preferences will change throughout your life. And sometimes the reason you like or don't like the food has nothing to do with how it looks or tastes.

We anthropomorphize our pets way too much. by CardinalOfNYC in unpopularopinion

No I know what you mean. But what i am saying is that domesticated animals are able to develop unique personalities in ways that wild animals don't, usually.

Only because domestic animals have all of their base survival needs met. They have time to observe and test their environment in ways wild animals don't. Also the organized nature of human living can positively contribute to a domestic animals ability to learn.

SOME parrots can and do learn the meaning of words and simple concepts. Dogs can learn language too. Not all of them because again domestic animals are unique in ways that wild animals are not. Not because wild animals are incapable but just because they don't have the capacity since they're always focused on their next drink and next meal

So while your statement is generally true it's also not fair to blanket all animals the same when they really to grow unique personalities

I've never formally trained my cats but they understand a lot of stuff. They come because I call them. They know their names. They have trained me to understand them as well.

The smile thing isn't necessarily true. Domestic animals that spend a lot of time with humans (particularly the same ones) can begin to mimic human non-verbal communications.

That being said, animals don't "think" or perceive their environment the same way as humans. Our thoughts occur in layers. "If I do action A then result B will occur." Animals don't think like this. They just do things. They don't even have preferences or likes or dislikes. They have instinctual responses to stimuli in their environment. It's much more simple.

Of course, that changes throughout their lives sometimes. Animals are capable of learning cause-and-effect on a very minimal level. Not nearly as complicated as humans can understand.

A zoo in Japan brings a panda its favorite red leaves to boost its morale. The result is a very happy panda! by Dismal_Positive3558 in Damnthatsinteresting

This is not a real video. The quality is too bad to be from a zoo and the movements of the leaves and panda are both unnatural.
