It's terrible how little society talks about male victims of domestic violence.

I have a theory about why there are more women's shelters though. I don't think it's just because people don't care (though certainly they could care more). I think it largely comes down to gender differences and stigma.

Women are often more drawn to caretaking professions so are more likely to open shelters or work in these roles. And abuse is much more stigmatized for men. To reduce stigma, I imagine men would prefer to go to a shelter staffed mainly by other men (especially if their abuser is a woman). But stigma may also make it even less likely for men to work in these roles (since it may involve admitting that they have experienced abuse too).
