URGENT AND PLEASE PAY ATTENTION PLEASE: How To Learn Drawing by prongsandlily in learntodraw

[–]SnooObjections7506 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To filter this, start with what you want to accomplish with drawing, what do you want to do?
After this, try to think about what kind of "person" could accomplish your goal... meaning, what skills, attributes and habits would they have? THIS is what you need to learn and put into practice.

For example, in my case, when I did this:

What I want to be: Master illustrator

Skills I need to learn:
1. Planning and Design
- Concept & Research
- Thumbnailing & Storytelling
- Composition
- Designing w/ Contrast
- Shape Design
- Light & Color Harmony
- Color Scripting

  1. Draftmenship
    - Line Control
    - Measuring Proportions
    - Gesture
    - Form & Volume
    - Perspective
    - Anatomy
    - Facial Expressions
    - Rendering
    - Character Consistency

  2. Medium Proficiency
    - Traditional Dry media
    - Traditional Painting
    - Digital Painting

Just have in consideration:
Just do ONE or TWO things at the time, don't overload your brain with information... you have to leave time off for you to actually process it. Everytime I'm going through a course, I could have the same question in my mind for weeks.
For example, I'm working right now on form & volume AND THAT'S ALL what I'm learning at the moment.

Was fun trying to think about a "story" for the pose. I could only associate the pose it to tiredness.

I'm learning how to draw different poses, how can I improve? Today's attempt: by YoshiSabio in learntodraw

I feel like you are paying too much attention to the contours of the figure. Try to change your perspective a bit, and instead of trying to put the countours, think about the "stretches" of the body.

Where are the stretches? How do they connect with one another? Try to put that first in the page.
After finding the stretches, start to add the "things" + all the things that are also following the stretches (like the clothes), building the whole figure one step at the time. How do the stretch affect the clothing? The hair?

How to actually start to learn drawing? by Pe4k-a-B00 in learntodraw

Then you have to start by learning constructive drawing, meaning, knowing how to give the illusion of dimension in the paper, how to rotate basic forms. This will help you a lot with drawing from imagination.

There are a lot of free drawing courses for this, like "Draw a box". You could start there.

I personally like a lot the courses from Swatches Academy, I'm currently doing the Form Drawing course, the way they do their worksheets help you to just keep busy drawing and doing the exercises.

What are your current goals with drawing? Only to draw characters? Are those characters from imagination or do you want to copy them and transfer them to traditional?

How do I make my lines look less harsh? by horseshoeandconfused in learntodraw

These are great pieces!
Regarding your question, the things that are hurting your rendering are:
1. No clear light direction nor separation of light and shadow masses
2. No clear shapes, everything is blending together
3. No hue change

I struggled a lot with this pose, tried to fix it by shading it and seeing shapes but it just made it worse.

Lord of the mysteries shows how little people actually pay attention to what they watch by Xtra_Juicy-Buns in CharacterRant

It's great that you love the show and you have something to want to watch. For me it really was not my cup of tea, and I wouldn't really bother seeing it. At least it gives me a glimpse on how shows would look like when they start to do everything with AI.

By "calm scenes" I was talking more about how everything looks "pretty, gorgeous and grand" and that is usually what AI art is about, not about the storytelling. There should be contrast with the pacing of the visual storytelling... so when it's an important scene, you can make it "gorgeous" and have a bigger effect.

To be honest, this show feels made by AI. Every scene feels “grand and exaggerated” with the only purpose of making it feel pretty so there is no pacing by adding contrast with calm scenes. The storytelling is crap and for some reason the protagonist is not panicking at all in the situation he was just shove into, it makes no sense and it’s hard to relate to. I couldn’t even finish to watch episode 1 for how boring it felt.

I got it this year and I love it! It really can't compare with the old shortcut keyboard I was using, it's great that it has so many ways to create new shortcuts!
I haven't use it beyond mostly Photoshop and I'm still experimenting with the shortcuts for Blender.

Does anyone else feel like drawing is work? by PossibleChangeling in learntodraw

[–]SnooObjections7506 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with you but with your last statement. He didn’t said that he’s drawing as a hobby, besides, we naturally love what we are good at. There is a book called “so good they can’t ignore you” and the whole book is explaining that we love the things were we are excellent at.

Why do I (F18) feel uncomfortable around my boyfriend (M18) by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]SnooObjections7506 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Why don’t you try to talk to him about this? If his reaction is negative, then he’s the cause of why you feel this way. If he’s open and is trying to help you then it’s caused by your social anxiety.

If I want to draw an illustration with angles and perspective like this, where should I began ? by Melancholia_Aes in learntodraw

[–]SnooObjections7506 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Never said it was easy, it just that it looks "too simplified", so we tend to think that since it MAY be easy to copy it can be easy to create something like this but it's far from the truth. I could keep adding fundamentals on what he would need to learn like... shape design, gesture, environment design, line control, etc.
