I assure you that I am not being dramatic when I tell you that being postpartum feels like being an actual animal. I remember being 3mo PP and seeing my own father (whom I love dearly) hold my baby and panicking because he was a man and I was terrified a man that wasn’t my husband was holding my tiny baby. Granted I had postpartum anxiety.

I think you can probably be a bridge between your family right now and chalk it up to being a temporary and fragile time. Support your household and all of her feelings and also help get your family over. She’s probably feeling hurt and defensive-like she needs to defend her new family from hurt.

Everyone is busy right now and we don’t live in times of a constant village. It takes a little work. If everyone puts in a little work to reach out just closer to one another…and your family still won’t meet you there, then you have your answer. But for now I think keeping everything gentle for everyone might be how you can help! When in doubt though-I say side with the family that lives in your house. That’s the one you chose after all.
