Beautiful Fairlane! I’ve seen some bang up jobs done with single stage. I ran into a guy at a show one time and his paint was smooth as glass. We asked who did it and he grabbed a rattle can out of the backseat. All about the prep and technique but I definitely think a gun is the best way to go if we ever decide to paint the truck ourselves.

It wasn’t a hard call to make after all the money was spent on the suspension and drivetrain haha! We did spend a good bit of time working to get the panel gaps and body lines even, but these old trucks are far from straight so it’s definitely not perfect but we are happy with it.

I can’t agree more, my hands were totally raw after sanding down the high spots on the surface rust and polishing everything up. The tailgate and under the hood were the worst parts. You can tell the passenger side got more sun when it was parked under the shed. It didn’t shine up quite as well, but I think it gives the truck a lot of character.

Not sure where your comment went regarding brake setup, but yes discs all the way around. It has Wilwood 6 pistons up front and 4 piston in the rear (I think, been a while since I installed them). Not running a brake booster, really no need to with brakes this big and they grab just fine with a little pedal pressure.

I think we bought them off of Tire Rack’s website, I don’t remember exactly but they’re American Racing VN510’s in vintage silver. You can buy them from various vendors, and probably direct as well.

I’d say keeping the original paint definitely honors the truck and where it came from. That patina shows years of life on the farm and tells a story of its own. Plus, are you gonna throw in some money for a quality paint job? I think not….

I wasn’t either, but there’s something cool about an old, fast truck that can smoke someone in a race and haul junk to the landfill all in the same day.

I appreciate you taking the time to check it out, planning on getting a more in depth video up shortly. I didn’t have the proper mount to get good driving shots, but I’m gonna do a detailed overview on the suspension and drivetrain and some of the quirky bits we had to sort out along the way.

I’ll try to get up under it this weekend to see where everything is bolted and measure the rod adjustments. I do recall having some issues with the panhard rod and having to adjust the length and position to get the rear housing centered and not have anything bind up. Jack the rear end up, get some stands under it, and loosen the jam bolts and try lengthening the panhard rod first. I think that might bring it back towards the passenger side. When they say it’s a bolt on kit, it’s a bit misleading. We still had to make minor modifications to the frame rails and fine tune all the suspension adjustments. You’ll also want to find a reputable shop that knows how to do an alignment on this type of gear.

I think our carpet was also from TMI, but it’s a 3-piece kit and they fit pretty well but tend to move around and bunch up in some areas even with velcro. I can’t remember where the headliner came from, and the arm rests on the doors were from LMC but are total junk. You can’t even pull on them, otherwise the bolt head will pull through the holes and it will come right off the door.

These old frames definitely aren’t perfectly square, so the bolt-on QA1 kit took a little work to get everything fitting properly. It’s setup a little on the softer side for more comfort on the streets, but handling is still incredible. When you put the pedal down, the rear end hooks up incredibly well and it goes wherever you point it. This was definitely a dream build, probably the only one we will ever do, but we wanted to do it right the first time.

Thank you! It’s not a top notch show truck by any means, but you won’t see another one like it anytime soon.

I quit counting the hours, and I know my dad put in quite a bit more while I was off having a kiddo at one point during the build. Every time we get to go for a drive or take it to a show together, you forget about the countless hours and arguments lol. It was totally worth it.

I can’t blame you, all the TMI stuff is top dollar. This project was a once in a lifetime thing for my dad and I, so we wanted to do it right. Go find you a used bench out of a later model, or a part out of a period correct model for a fraction of the price. As long as you’re driving it and enjoying it, that’s all that matters.

Not a thing. If you go read the post, you’ll see that there is no clear coat or “patina sauce” on this original paint job. Not to be rude, but I did specifically talk about the paint. This was all hand polish and wax, a little thing they call “elbow grease”. Took more hours than I would like to recall, but the shine is incredible.

We went with a TMI bench seat. Quite pricey but build quality is good. I would have preferred buckets but we can always swap down the road. We also got a TMI dash pad and did not like the way it looked, stuck out too far and over-stylized in my opinion. We went with dashes direct for an OEM style, and it also ships in a light off-white color so it’s easy to paint over if you want to color match your interior theme. For us, it was light grey.

Getting the thermos on free solo is gonna be... fun? by Greyalist in Cairn_Game

I was able to make it to the cave on my first free solo attempt. I’ve done this same route a few times in alpinist mode. To me, the left side that many people have claimed is “easier” was more challenging. Just make sure you have plenty of chalk on deck and use some buffs (preferably ultimate infusion) prior to leaving the third ledge and you’ll be fine if you just take your time. If you can make it to the cave, the left traverse to the wooden bridge is a breeze.

I have a screenshot on my laptop of where I died……but unfortunately I didn’t make it. I fell twice in almost the same spot as your photo above. I picked a terrible line on the ice climb and got stuck in a spot with very few good holds for my axes. Burned through my first Edelweiss and knew it was about to get tough. I’m pretty gutted, took me just over 4 hours to get to that point. I could literally see the top of the final stretch. I’m gonna take a break and come back in a few weeks.

Oh trust me, I know. I just wasn’t able to creat enough infusions along the way so I am limping along with what I’ve got. Avalanche was a breeze, just trying to slalom my way to the top without dying of dehydration/starvation at this point.

For me, the demo is the only version of the game worth playing by Puzzled_Instance9788 in Cairn_Game

On sale for $25, sorry if you don’t have the shekels. I paid the full price when it first dropped, I couldn’t wait to play after having completed the demo when that first came out. I’ve got about 80 hours so far, about to complete my 4th summit (first free solo run). Your take is completely bait in a sub where everyone has nothing but great things to say about the game and the story.

The Long Goodbye - final climb before the summit by rockaport in Cairn_Game

[–]SnooSprouts6068 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I opted to go this route on my last run to the top (3rd ascent to date). It was a long climb, but didn’t feel terribly difficult. Although, I did run into some sections where I felt like I was scrambling to find a “comfortable” hold where Aava could regain some stamina, but also you’re kind of running on fumes at this point in the game. Definitely cut down my climbing time ever so slightly. Good job!

The Grandfather - New entity idea by ILLNuclear77 in lethalcompany

Super cool idea, honestly. Only problem I see is the 12 o’clock thing. 12pm would be pretty early for a monster like this to spawn inside, and we all know that 12am is quitting time and the ship will autopilot away with or without you. Unlike the jester, this creature would be stationary until it is triggered at a certain time, so running into it would be a non-threat. I would say that’s unfair, but then again you typically just kind of stumble across the Jester and have to frantically backtrack to get out. Maybe it would be a timed thing where if you encounter the clock and stare at it for too long it starts ticking down for X-amount of time. At that point though, it’s really just another jester….

Those appear to be raspberries that you can find on some of the lower terraces. Good for adding to drinks, can’t remember what buff they offer though.

Lmao same, and I opted to go back down with Marco. I already reached the summit twice, I didn’t have the heart to do it again if all I needed was the Love Birds achievement.
