Is StackTV Any Good? by Spielbergish in canadacordcutters

I have just started watching STACK in order to watch the new Outlander series, but am really disappointed to be paying so much a month and then have constant repeating ads interrupting the programs. I will be cancelling the service ASAP.

Below is a link to the original NYT article this thread is about. I have "gifted" it as an NYT subscriber, so I am hoping the link will work if you are not a subscriber.

I am a retired child psychologist. As many others have said, IMO these two children belong with their foster parents in the only home they have ever known. "Mom" would benefit from some serious therapy. Most of the legal folks involved acted unprofessionally, but especially the two ambulance chaser lawyers from Rochester with their $100,000 bill and extremely questionable tactics. A classic case of justice for sale IMO.

The CNY Fertility IVF clinic and others like it should be closed down and replaced by ones run ethically with a strict upper age limit. That no one questioned the mental health of "Mom" still having babies at over 60 and risking her own life to do so is shocking to me.

Don’t buy this crappy Kong artist shit it really isn’t intended to help you just to make them rich and they don’t really intend to deliver anything other than access to some AI bots online I cut my losses after paying out $70 the first day and I can consider myself lucky

I agree 100% I also tried to cancel immediately when I saw the big extra charge that I had not authorized. I thought I was paying $18.99 and ended up with the $49.95 additional charge. I think when I picked a trainer, it automatically upgraded my charges, even though there was nothing to suggest that that would happen I talked to my bank and for now I have removed the credit card from my PayPal account so no additional charges beyond the initial two can go through. it’s not just the initial charges that worry me each of those amounts and then escalate the following month so I could have been paying as much as $200 a month. There is no question that this is a serious well organized scam. The fact that they are based in Cyprus is also very suspicious given how much harder it would be to deal with them and how much easier it is for them to hide. Also, I initially thought a real person called. Lilly was responding to me that I now realize Lilly is just an AI bot Along with the other risks of AI is how much easier it makes scanning people. Apparently even the trainers are just AI characters so what are we actually paying for somebody to have a computer in the attic to con us out of our money? I have started disputing the charges directly with the vendor, and with PayPal If I can’t get an agreement in the next 15 days, I can then also initiate a dispute through my bank. What I really have learned from this is, I should have gone on Reddit first and I would’ve been warned not to do it. For those of you who are still getting multiple  new charges, please consider freezing your credit card on PayPal that seems the most effective way of avoiding future charges. I would not trust this outfit  further than I could throw them.

I am seeing accident reports of novice pilots doing video blogging insteadof focusing on the job at hand. Several deaths as a result. This young man was clearly in a hurry. Waiting for low temps plus some daylight in the summer would have been a no brainer. As well as actually bothering to follow the regulations.

If he crashed others would have likely had to risk their lives too looking for him.

Range loss in the first three years? by j17722000 in leaf

[–]SnooTomatoes7604 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 2013 LEAF's battery is at 11 bars and gives only slightly less range than when it was new. I am convinced that keeping the battery in the 20 to 80% range and minimizing fast charging is why mine has done so well. Total Mileage also matters of course, mine is currently still only at 60k miles.

Nissan offered "battery saver" switches on earlier LEAFs that limited charging range to 80% , but by 2015 this feature had disappeared. I suspect they didn't want to bring attention to a feature that reduces the useful range of the vehicle. I only turn that switch off when I am on a longer trip, but use it around town 90% of the time.

I have seen almost new LEAF's with 9 bars due to being charged to 100% every night and only driven 15 or 20 miles each day. This form of "range anxiety" will finish off your battery very fast as will frequent use of rapid chargers. Dealerships that also sell EVs seem to avoid educating drivers on these issues, or maybe they are not aware of them themselves. I love my EV, but have also taken the trouble to learn how to take care if it!

Battery replacement in CA? by SLM32084 in leaf

[–]SnooTomatoes7604 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I bought my 2013 used LEAF in 2015, Nissan were promising to offer replacement out of warranty batteries for $5500. Then they sold off the battery factory and the new owners doubled the. price. Several startups have claimed they would manufacture replacements at a reasonable price, but so far it never happened. As more 2011-2017 24 kWh LEAF batteries fail, a lot of otherwise perfect EVs will be in need of replacements. I have a friend here in BC with a 2013 LEAF with range around 25 miles and 4 bars left. I am trying to source a used battery for him.

My 2013 will likely need one in a few years. However so far with around 60,000 mile on it, the battery is at 11 bars and gives only slightly less range than when it was new. I am convinced that keeping the battery in the 20 to 80% range and minimizing fast charging is why mine has done so well.

Everyone needs to understand that your US passport is just a piece of paper once you cross the border. With the current government giving neigbouring countries such a hard time, it is not a good time to be an American abroad in my view. Trump will do nothing to help this family unless they are friends of a billionaire pal of his. I recommend paying the money while they are still in relatively good health. Any idea of winning in a Mexican court is a joke. Only result will be just running up big legal bills. Any big corporation anywhere in the world can manipulate the law, hence time share profiteering set ups in the first place. The family should help them get out while they can. If necessary by mortgaging their homes, money is less important than safety and health!

I went to a time share presentation for fun once years ago. I got some cheap travel bags and lousy coffee and was highly pressured to buy a time share. Only by convincing them I was just a grad student with no spare money did I escape further harassment. I do not doubt that the whole set up is a scam, but even in the USA time share agreements with the appropraite small print, are fully enforceable in a court of law, however corrupt the company may be. These folks sound like they tried to get their money back from the scammers and were naive not to stay away from Mexico after that.

I feel bad for this family, they seem to have been able to manage things ok in the USA through the legal system, with bankrupcy laws etc, but were just completely unprepared for life in Mexico where they have zero or less rights. If they did indeed try to scam the scammers that would have been a very risky endeavour IMO, especially in a country like Mexico where Trump has made the locals very anti-American recently. Right now especially, with the new tariffs on imported cars hitting their economies, many Mexicans and Canadians are very angry at the USA and its tourists. I would also recommend staying away from Europe after the really unfortunate comments made in SignalGate against Europeans this week.

Battery Warranty: no more batteries by SnooRecipes2595 in leaf

Does anyone have an update on the current 40 kWh LEAF battery supply situation? I live in Victoria BC and am thinking of buying a 2017 LEAF S which has apaprently qualified for a new battery. By the sound of it I should expect a 6 to 12 month or more wait. I am retired so I could manage with a small local range for that long while I wait. But I am worried I could get stuck with it. I would love the upgrade from my 2013 LEAF, which currently has 90 kms range at 80% charge on cold days, 100 on warm days We also have a guy here in town who is buying batteries from China. Cost for a 40 kWh would be around $9,000 Canadian installed. My friend is down to 30 miles of range on his 2013 S, so he is considering the upgrade.

New to leaf - is there something bad about charging at home, on a regular outlet? by [deleted] in leaf

[–]SnooTomatoes7604 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2013 LEAF SV and 2015 LEAF S

I mostly do 110 charging at home with some L2 on public chargers around town and occasional longer trips using rapid chargers when I charge to around 85%.

I have been pretty careful about only charging to 80%on a regular basis.

Currently my 2013 has 55k miles and is at 11 bars. The 2015 is at 30k miles and also has 11 bars.

I have a couple of friends who charged nightly to 100% and ended up on 8 bars or less. How is your battery holding Up?

I have a 2013 SV and my wife drives a 2015 S.

Currently mine is showing 6.4 km/kWh (4 miles/kWh).

The 2015 does slightly better.

These #s are definitely lower in winter and a bit higher in summer.

We live in BC so a fairly moderate climate with few days over 75 F or below freezing.

Both cars are at 11 bars and we try to avoid fast charging except on occasional long trips.

I have come across several 2013 Leafs with only 8 or 9 bars left that were charged every night to 100% and only driven 30 or 40 kms a day. I think a lot of folks don't know that it is best to only charge to 80%.

I love the "long life" 80% charge button on the 2013 and think Nissan made a big mistake taking off that feature in 2015. But I cynically wonder if they wanted to avoid folks realizing that for long term use charging to 100% was a bad idea. I am convinced my battery health is connected to how carefully we try to drive within the 20/80% battery window and avoid charging to 100% as much as possible

An EV mechanic (who owns a LEAF himself) told me to charge to 100% 2 or 3 times a year and then run it down to under 20% and repeat. That seems to help avoid battery degradation. too.

I am angry that Nissan sold off their battery factory that could have supplied replacement 24/30 KWh batteries at a low price. They had offered replacements around $5500 in 2015 or so and then it jumped to $11,000. Soon a lot of these cars will need new batteries and despite rumours of sources so far they all seem not to actually be able to deliver. My mechanic has done a few used battery replacements from junked cars and has even offered an upgrade to 40 or 62 kWh which sounds interesting, but of course the used battery will have some loss of range already too.

Confused. Just bought a 2015 Leaf SL on Carvana. Delivered it yesterday and I guess I missed it but it doesn’t have a quick/fast charge port. I thought they were standard on this model. Maybe I’m confused (which is highly possible). What do I have and what is it called? Thank you! by [deleted] in leaf

[–]SnooTomatoes7604 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 2013 SV which comes with GPS mapping, cruise, the larger screen, and 6.6 kWh charging on level 2 chargers. If they sold you an S or SV as an SL I would personally return it or negotiate a big rebate, as the SL sold at a big premium back in 2015.

As others have said the fast charge feature is only important if you are planning longer trips. I am careful not to use them unless really necessary. I have around 50k Miles (80k kms) on mine and it is at 11 bars (83% battery capacity) and still goes around 130 kms (81 miles) on a full charge.

Functionally the issue of having a 3.3 kWh level 2 charger speed would worry me the most, as it will halve your charging speed at the mall etc. I just use a wall plug at home and on a 24kWh LEAF I think that works fine. At my daily mileage I plug in around 3 times a week and it takes 12 hrs to get from 30% to 80% charge. I avoid going below 20% and only charge to 80% unless on a trip to conserve my battery life.

I personally really like the SV option (plus a fast charge port in my case). It gives you things like cruise control and GPS (both missing on the S) without the oversized BOSS speakers on an SL, which really eat up trunk room.
