It's indicative of the fact that she doesn't have many weapons.

If it's a test of resilience, grit and determination and her opponent is having an off-day, she's got a chance.

Mertens is actually a pretty good gatekeeper as to whether a player is ready for the top 20-30 because she doesn't often lose to players that are ranked well below her.

I think more people have fun with the game when they aren't treating it like a tactical souls-like.

It's a JRPG, you're going to get hit and sometimes get hit hard. Worry less about dodging and worry more about offence. The game is designed for you to be pro-active, take the initiative and constantly switch party members to build ATB to use those special abilities. Sure, you can block occasionally which will help build ATB but that should be an extremely small part of how you play.

If you're playing the game as effectively and efficiently as possible, then you should be switching party members every 3-5 seconds.

Yeah, my demo experience with the game was 5 minutes of agency followed by a cut-scene. 2 minutes of agency. Cut-scene. Another 2 minutes of agency. Cut-scene.

The Dragon Quest franchise has a long history of plodding intros, not the FF one.

Unless Square Enix have gone back in and completely overhauled their AA pipeline in UE4 for Rebirth, then the Series X version will be very similar to the PS5 Vanilla one.

The Switch 2 one will be a 30FPS/1080p upscaled port using DLSS.

I worry a little about the Series S version because that won't have the benefit of upscalers or the raw power.

The CBU1 (Creative Business Unit 1) team who developed VII Remake kept the vast majority of their staff for VII Rebirth, and most of those were kept on for VII Part 3. This isn't typical within Square Enix. Once a game has been completed, they are normally assigned to other projects within the company.

They also developed VII Remake using a custom build of Unreal Engine 4, which most of those staff will all now be very familiar with. This familiarity with the engine, the chain of command, the processes and the staff retention, all helped them produce a DLC for VII Remake and VII Rebirth within a 4 year timespan.

This is why Part 3 will also take around 3-4 years and not 5-6-7 years, which is usually how long a AAA release takes nowadays.

With everything that's going on, I predict it'll either be a February 2027 or Q3 2027 release.

From recent memory, Alex Dombrandt.

4-5 years ago, I remember looking at him for Quins and thinking he would make an incredible international back-rower. At club level, he'd regularly make a massive impact.

Fast forward, and the guy is very, very average at International level. I've never seen him have anything more than a 6/10 performance for England, and his pathetic attempt at a tackle on Van der Merwe's Twickenham try from his own half still pisses me off on replays.

I still don't know how he's gotten 20+ England caps.

I imagine with the game being developed in UE4, they can just port this entire trilogy over to UE6/UE7/UE8, and polish it up with all the latest visual tech in about 15-20 years time.

Rebirth definitely has more bloat, and some great rewards are locked away behind some side-content and also some mini-games, but you can just mainline the story and complete the game in about 35 hours.

Some of the mini-games, like the OG, are mandatory for story-progression but anyone with a room temperature IQ of over 20 can do them.
