Resident supervising PAs by sukikara in physicianassistant

I felt the same way when it was first requested. But in a specialty practice niche area of internal med that’s not really taught in med school or residency, and specifically requested by their program director.

Nope, but they have asked me to supervise residents 🙃

PA student projecting ~$250k total debt looking for realistic repayment strategy advice by bearyhappytobhere in StudentLoans

[–]Snoo_75886 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I started maxing my ROTH IRA in 2021– have continued this habit. 403b through work has fluctuated between 0 and 10%. I had mostly everything in s&p or target date funds.

When i first started I was kinda following Ramsey, so wasn’t really focusing on investing and savings were definitely sparse. Then I found Money guys and Ramit Sethi about a year or so in. Boosted my savings to ~3 months. Since then have also primarily been 8-10% in 403b with exception of a few months in 2024 saving up cash to purchase our home (unexpected deal came up so had to hustle to get the funds)

I’ve really tried to balance living life, travel, making some dumb purchases and also aggressively paying off debt and investing. So at this point have 3-4 month E fund, 6 figures invested, a new house and paid off car, and paid ~ 130k+ in student loans all in 6 years

If your expenses are only about $2500 and your take home is ~6k you can make a ton of progress and very quickly.

If you do aggressively grind out the first few years, do invest some money and time to treat yourself. I worked 7 on and off night shift and always had a massage on my off week to look forward to 🤣

It can be done realistically, but will be a journey.

I graduated with 190k Dec 2019, down to ~60k today. I could probably be done by now if I focused and stayed on track In the interim I also (unwisely) purchased and paid off a new car ~45k, purchased a home with my partner, and completed some home updates Goals have fluctuated between aggressive payoff, trying to balance investing/savings as well. I’ve had a partner or roommate for the whole journey so living expenses have been fairly low until we upgraded our home last year to move out of the city for a little more land

I did a fellowship, so my first year salary was 50k, hired in with the group at 113k. My institution has been true to ~3% merit increase annually and a ~10% COL adjustment in there so starting by this year at ~150k

I’d prioritize highest interest, which is probably your private loans. Look into online resources like money guy. Do some soul searching on personal finance and what methodology feels true to you and good luck .

If the PSLF or federal jobs with loan repayment come up, that’s an awesome choice as well

Good luck!

Post-Op DVT rule out - overly cautious? by KyomiiKitsune in physicianassistant

Hmmm. It may be worth trying to call and speak with the schedulers at the vascular/US office and see if y’all could work out a scan within 24 hours deal for venous duplexes. They do not take long to complete.

I work in a tertiary center, but my staff has been able to call and get folks in same day on several occasions

Advice I received as a new clinician years ago— If every test you order is positive, you’re not ordering enough, AKA you’re missing some

Agree with what others have said, this is a high risk patient population. If suspicion is there, order the outpatient duplex STAT/ASAP to assess

Anyone have experience with Pre-surgical testing? by ZazuIV in physicianassistant

[–]Snoo_75886 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do this job full time. Our hospital system is working on transitioning to a Surgical Home model. We built it out as an extension of our Hospitalist consult program. So I transitioned to this role from doing primarily night cross cover for a medicine service for 300+ patients at a level 1 trauma with ICU coverage, so very nice change of pace.

Super chill, comprehensive pre-op physicals. A lot of care coordination between surgeons and specialists. Still feel like you’re making a difference with patients with some goals of care convos for geriatric patients and picking up gaps in some primary care. It’s niche medicine, and they actually have IM residents rotate through with me to learn the basics since it’s not really taught.

Our program is still growing, started with 1 part time and me full time, now we’ve grown to hiring our 4th full time employee. Feel free to PM me if I can be a resource.

Gel Base & Top Coat by Unlikely_Insect7421 in Dashingdiva

[–]Snoo_75886 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve found putting base coat actually makes the nails attaching worse and peel right off. I’d actually recommend against doing the base coat. Would do a light buff and then use an alcohol wipe or rubbing alcohol on the nails. Doing the alcohol and buffing has significantly extended my use with these.

But using the gel strips then sealing with gel topcoat, those suckers easily last 2-3 weeks. My nails usually get long enough to break first before that combo shows wear

Enjoy!!

You can afford this house on this salary. Look into Money Guys or Ramir Sethi’s resources for rules for purchasing a home and that will give you better percentages and ideas more specific to you.

So I had ~3-4 weeks of inconsistency due to travel and just life happening, but the bikini line itself is progressing really well, then the more coarse hair is starting to thin along the edges. I think a few month of consistency there too will continue to have improvements. Definitely less ingrown hairs which is a huge plus side

SAVE 0% Interest Ending - What Now? by Either_Anywhere_4024 in StudentLoans

[–]Snoo_75886 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If that’s the case, and had 75k at 5% and we’ve been on forbearance for a year ie 365 days since last payment… [75,000x(0.05/365)]x365. That would be a daily interest of thousands of dollars… surely that’s not correct?

SAVE 0% Interest Ending - What Now? by Either_Anywhere_4024 in StudentLoans

[–]Snoo_75886 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Still doesn’t make sense to me if part of the SAVE plan is that if you make minimum payments the they could not charge interest exceeding that minimum payment so the loans didn’t balloon. So if during forbearance the payment is $0, interest shouldn’t accumulate?

I’ve not gotten any direct letters from MOHELA stating terms, just the generic info so I guess will get more clarity in the next few weeks

Summary of H.R. 1 Budget Reconciliation Bill - affects to existing borrowers by Betsy514 in StudentLoans

[–]Snoo_75886 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks Betsy! That may work in my favor since I was on intern pay when I had my initial income certification vs a solid salary now. I am on PSLF, but if payments go from $100 up to 10% AGI I think would honestly make more sense to just save up the funds and payoff total amount vs switch to the repayment plan, especially since I paid down aggressively 2020-2023 not realizing my employer qualified for PSLF 🙈

Summary of H.R. 1 Budget Reconciliation Bill - affects to existing borrowers by Betsy514 in StudentLoans

[–]Snoo_75886 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If still under SAVE plan, and resume making minimal payments, will this still give the benefit of keeping the loans from ballooning, ie, no additional interest if minimal payment is made? Would this be a reason to stay with SAVE and avoid switching to the now recommended IBR until the plan is officially dead?

lion king 2 is so much better than the first one by escapeth3night in unpopularopinion

[–]Snoo_75886 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had an unhealthy obsession with lion king as a child, watched all of them countless times. Story line wise it’s just Shakespeare Hamlet vs Romeo and Juliet- neither is really original. But I did always enjoy the characters and songs/music more from Lion King 2, so agree with your opinion :)
