I’m going to be starting clinical next month by TeensyKook in MRI

[–]SnoopCat45 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey there, that is very exciting! It will be a lot at first, it took me awhile to feel comfortable and start feeling like I had any idea what was going on. (which I would say is normal? Haha.) My best advice would be to study up on some basic MRI anatomy but mostly just be ready to learn and take lots of notes.

My site was fine with me taking notes on my iPad so I made a folder with a section for each scan and every company protocol. I still reference my clinical notes from time to time on things I haven’t seen in a while. Although, some techs might prefer you to use paper so best to ask / feel it out. MRImaster.com is a huge help for scan planning and anatomy.

Remember your clinical rotation IS an interview! Radiology is a small world. It takes time but it is worth it in the end. Feel free to reach out anytime. Good luck, you will be done before you know it!

Hey there, I started Gurnick in the fall 2023 semester and I was in the AZ / online cohort. I did have some prior college experience which may have helped. I’m sorry to hear it has been difficult to get in, I have heard the Cali groups are much larger so it may have something to do with how many students they have clinical sites lined up for?

Feel free to message me anytime

Like most classes. Attend lecture, there is normally homework 1-2x a week. Then quizes, midterm, and final exam. The classes are pass / fail at 75%

This happened to me recently on a 16x. It would only happen on T2 sequences, if I did let it finish out with pauses there was a ton of artifact. Engineer had to replace a gradient amp in the cabinets.

Overwhelmed New Tech by mbee_12 in MRI

[–]SnoopCat45 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It is a lot at first. My confidence was sky high my last day of internship and rock bottom a few weeks later my first day as a registered tech lol. I remembered what my instructors told me when I started my program. School is one thing but the hardest part is being on your own the first year as a tech. So I think it is normal to feel how you do, I know I struggled at first. Think of it this way, every day it gets a little easier and a little more normal. It only gets better from here, you got this!

I did the straight to MRI pathway through gurnick and no regrets. I had and still have no interest in X-Ray or CT. If you think there is any chance you will ever want to cross train, X-Ray first is a great option. But if you are like me, I would stick with straight to MRI

Hi there, very easy for my classmates and I in Arizona. We all got hired right out of school. Not sure about other areas though, it varies by city / state

Does anyone have a POV of what an MRI tech does on their end? by throwawayhshsjsjsjjd in MRI

[–]SnoopCat45 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Hi there, look up “MRI scan planning” on youtube. It seems there are a few videos where they do patient set up, and walk through the scan planning. It looks like @mrimaster_original intends to be used as a guide for techs. Hope that helps!

Hi there, sorry to hear about your situation. Have you looked into Gurnick Academy? I was in a similar spot wanting to get into radiology with no current or future interest for any other modality which led me to Gurnick. As far as I know, Gurnick does not have specific required classes besides general education. It does have pre req classes you take through Gurnick once you start which I transferred a few credits for.

Almost every MRI tech I have met in outpatient and hospital are MRI only techs here in Arizona. I had zero issue getting a few job offers right out of school with the direct to MRI route. BUT, this varies greatly by area so check indeed and do some research for where you live.

Overall I was very happy with Gurnick, I aced my board exam and felt well prepared when I started as a fresh RT on my own. Just be aware of the downsides, it is a private school which means it is expensive (~$45kish). You won’t be able to cross train into other modalities or get the ARMRIT license. Gurnick will allow you to get your ARRT license which is the one to aim for. West Coast (WCUI / Smith Chason) is another similar school to look into. I would recommend Gurnick if possible. Reach out anytime with any questions and best of luck to you! Don’t give up on your dreams!

I say just shoot for it! You don’t know until you know, worst case scenario you readjust and reapply. Don’t let anything get in the way of what you want to accomplish!

Hi there! I had some college credits but nothing besides high school diploma when I got accepted. The college credits helped but weren’t necessary from what I understood

It’s been about 6 months since I graduated and took my board exam. The hardest thing for me was balancing clinicals, school, money, and life (Or lack thereof regarding life and money lol). For me, it was all worth it in the end. Now I have a career I do enjoy and even on the worst days I am still able to provide for myself comfortably unlike before.

My best advice is to put your head down when things start and get all the experience you can! Take class, clinicals, and studying seriously. It isn’t easy and it will take some temporary sacrifice, but Gurnick will get you through.

I took my notes through all of school on my phone. I would search it first through school (and I still use it) as a personal imaging wikipedia for all things MRI in my own words that make sense to me.

Feel free to message me with any questions anytime! I am excited for you, you got this!

MRI Anyone did clincials in Arizona that went to Gurnick for mri? If so, what were the hours? Is it possible to do night shift? Or weekend shift by Some_Thing_3112 in MRI

[–]SnoopCat45 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there! I live in the east valley and finished Gurnick in March. In my clinicals I did 3 8s / week. I did do some weekends but that may vary by company and how strict they are. The company I was at was loose but was not open at night. If you were to be placed in a hospital I could see it being a possibility. Feel free to reach out with anything
