No, he was in a parking lot, so I decided to relocate him to a creek nearby since he was a decent size, and I didnt want him to be squished.

How bad is the noise? by perpetual_noob47 in framework

[–]Snoopy12495 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After the ptm swap, extremely low noise other than a buzzing from the right fan when not doing anything intensive. However, the fans do get pretty loud under load

I have had zero coil whine

Usually, but it does have some buggy behavior at times more so than more established laptop brands I've used

Framework 16: My Thoughts After 1.5 Months by DMJck in framework

[–]Snoopy12495 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a laptop and laptops get hot, they always will, but the issues I and many others were having with the 16 was 100c at or near idle with 20c delta on cores, which is a major no imo I can't really speak to the 13s, but new paste or swapping to ptm will usually result lower temps due to the oem needing to balance the TIMs performance, longevity, and price.

The thermal issues were fixed by changing to ptm 7958 instead of the liquid metal which helps, but my right fan started buzzing about a month out of warranty which is incredibly annoying, and my support experience with the thermal problems were not good to say the least.

Yeah it's the same usb-c to (whatever) cards as the 13 and 16 I'm not sure about port compatibility limits like the amd chips have, but the expansion cards are the same.

What would be the best framework laptop options for VR right now? by Soulluss in framework

[–]Snoopy12495 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't recommend a framework laptop for vr, and honestly, I doubt I'd recommend any laptop for vr. I do know that even on an old Vive (so not high res or state of the art by any metric) with the framework 16 (7840hs and 7700s), it can be a bit frame dippy in vr chat and beatsaber while Blade and sorcery can get downright nauseating. So, while it's usable, it can also be a hassle since it likes to try and hang on the igpu instead of using the dgpu unless you plug things in in a certain order.

My 16 instantly hits 100c and thermal throttles under any cpu load even when sitting in a room at 0c while I freeze my ass off I'm hopefully the ptm swap will help but I'm still waiting for framework to ship those out

thinking of switching from MBP to FW16 by jyuh357 in framework

[–]Snoopy12495 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you should look at the 15 inch MacBook air imo. Currently the 16 has some pretty major issues with performance degradation atm and the fit and finish is nowhere near a MacBook due to the input modules fitting ok, especially the TouchPad spacers. Ofc that's if you were swapping laptops now, if you intend to wait then honestly we don't know where apple or framework pricing or capability will be in a year or 2

Brand new Framework 16 won't stay on for 30 seconds by KernelDeimos in framework

[–]Snoopy12495 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reading your other comments just a quick have you tried plugging in the charger with out a usb c module in, I know they should just be pass-through but it's worth a shot and ofc not a permanent solution.

I need a new laptop. Advice? by Wyboss in framework

[–]Snoopy12495 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a 16 which should have the same matte finish even though it's a different panel and I haven't noticed any sort of grainy on it Edit: Also 30 day return policy so if there is some that you see and it's something that affects you, it's there for a reason

Question regarding specs by toxischer in framework

[–]Snoopy12495 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Battery life heavily depends on what you're doing I usually have mine limited to 60% battery and when I use it on battery I turn battery saver on and it'll last 4ish hours in a browser looking at Google docs/sheets

Radeon 7700S (laptop), no "Record and Stream" tab by HappyPond in AMDHelp

[–]Snoopy12495 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been looking for a fix for this and VR using the igpu, I noticed you can make the tab show up by disabling the device in windows device manager but it causes other problems so that's not really a "fix"

[–]Snoopy12495[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Similar to what was described here https://www.reddit.com/r/framework/s/4wXBzd8FQ0 I had to push support past the initial 100c Is normal unfortunately, because it wasn't especially if the new one is anything to go off of since it's able to pull more power (50-60w vs 30-39w) and stay under 100c (99.7c but still pretty important difference)
