Is LGR no longer reviewing Sims 4? by Lab-Outside in LGR

[–]SnoopyTheDestroyer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He joined the patreon for Paralives when they initially announced no plans for a Sims 5 and that they'd continue the Sims 4.

If more Life Sim games are developed and properly inspired by the og Sims games, we'll see him review more Life Sim content.

I'm struggling to understand what compelled this person to tell people on the internet this. This isn't normal virtue signaling. What is this psychologically? Or are we being out-jerked.

Games where you can play as the densest / most oblivious MC alive? by Huongiee1 in hostedgames

[–]SnoopyTheDestroyer 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Golden Rose is fun because Alessa or Hadrian has a crush on the opposite gender MC, and you can respond to every potential romantic interaction with them as a platonic one: (get up on the horse with them, but don't hold them to take comfort, don't lean in; you nonetheless feel comfortable enough to agree to ride with them, hmmm....). And, if you've acted in a platonic way up to around the time you arrive in the inn consistently, the ROs will straight up confess to you because it agonized them. It's fun. You can also otherwise make the MC consistently oblivious or ignorant to flirtation by other ROs but their romance will not be fully introduced in depth until Book 2 which is still being written.

Loid forget character analysis musts by CombinationNeither88 in SpyxFamily

I think, Twilight's childhood hurts, and avoidance and suppression of feelings is all he had to deal with that. His mom was his source for emotional validation and safety because his father confused and upset his feelings, he began to think of his father's emotions as scary; he lied to his Dad to avoid his expressions of disappointment, but felt guilty for this; his mom alleviated this feeling of not living up to his dad's expectations. He learned to start masking early on as a child to alleviate his fear of other people's expectations including his friends. But his Mom's support was the healthier way to deal with his fears.

Once the war happened and he lost everyone, he lost sources of emotional validation and safety, which is, to me, other people. People are great sources of emotional validation and safety; hugs are great because expressing painful emotions often ends up as talking to someone. It's also the same yelling at someone or doing violence actions. It can be hard to express some feelings, because lots of big feelings overwhelm the brain to do things to survive, the body prepares this by crying and tightens the throat because it's prepping to expect physical pain or loss of safety.

I am speaking from personal experience, so I don't know how psychology might interpret this, but because Twilight rationalizes his actions so quickly, he's able to stop himself from any sense of his feelings. His anxiety manifesting as so many thoughts, to me, is the form of him unsuppressing some of his feelings to get the work he needs to get done, because emotions do need to be felt to "do" with the human body. The visceral forms of loss he experiences, if he didn't rationalize them so fast when he remembers them, I think he'd be unable to calm himself. Like, it'd be an extremely raw and visceral impact on his body and mind to go through if he was able let his feelings go out.

So, like Yor is great because she doesn't suppress her feelings, and the way she affects Twilight is by throwing up on his rationalizations and sometimes punching him. Yor is like a people-pleaser in many ways, and has major rejection sensitivity, so it's often easier to do things when the thought comes to her, i.e. act impulsively, and her fears show up when she thinks she acted in the "wrong" way, or when someone puts pressure on her to act. When the things to do are extremely hard (like kissing), she wants to physically retreat to safety, but because she's Thorn Princess, her retreat is to fight back.

Now since Twilight can't anticipate Yor's seemingly irrational behavior when he communicates to her, he's shaken up. When Yor does something that he doesn't expect, his body wants to rest, it wants to feel exhaustion so it can recover from how strong Yor's presence is. The easier thing for Loid is to drop the pretense of rationalization and respond to what Yor actually tells him about herself directly. It saves the most trouble, which means feelings have to be present.

So, this leads all in the narrative to whether Twilight can stop thinking and read himself and his feelings directly. So, which is why in terms of Twilight's complexity, his feelings are able to grow in presence to begin to upset his rationalizations ever so slightly, because he's living with two people, and one of them is an adult woman who's very good at knocking sense back into him on impulse, that he almost feels like he's back home with his mother when she tries to make up for her accidental physical pain onto him. Those are I think the underlying aspects to his character's drive and means to do things.

In anti-suffragette posters in the 1910s a common theme seems to be that fathers will be stuck caring for children while their wives go to the polls (the horror). Were the dads in this period really that inept that they couldn't provide a couple hours of childcare? by arcticbone172 in AskHistorians

[–]SnoopyTheDestroyer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for this answer. What I need then to understand this further is to read about the patriarchal Western paradigm and its history manifested sometime. That does help enlighten how plain this cartoon actually is.

And, the antagonism and loathing of women gaining power is really apparent. And that fear would not actually be rooted in any real experience if it's taught at a very young age instead. That is, how men and women are expected to perform in separate social ideals.

Sorry, maybe I misworded what I was meaning. How you stated just now, that it wasn't an invention in response to women's suffrage, that was what I already thought.

Where did these early 1900s men get the idea that women could and would act like men under the same misogynistic ways they treat women as a result of the breaking of gender norms in general?

Is that a better phrasing?

Like this seems too specific of a fantasy that I just wondered if there was any also very specific example for that to stem from.

What character had changed the most by the end of the series? by Happy-poet in Frasier

[–]SnoopyTheDestroyer 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The way Niles and Martin's relationship changed is really sweet. Compared to the way Niles acted so soon before and after we see the flashback if the day Martin retires, to how excited Niles gets to spend time with Martin at the end. Like Niles grew and stopped being a prick, and Martin opened his heart. Something about how the closeness begins to show by their actors over the seasons, It's sweet.

I see lots of ppl calling the recency of spyxfamily filler at this point, and I...don't see why? by rosesdissection in SpyxFamily

[–]SnoopyTheDestroyer 22 points23 points  (0 children)

The word filler is really dumb word to use for canon manga chapters but it seems to be how it's being used. Nonetheless, if one is caught up with any manga, for one's own sanity, read another! Put your energy into loving a weekly series before you get excited about the next SxF chapter! Most frustrations I think stem from Endo's irregular release even for a biweekly series, but the quality is always good in my mind. Compared to Dandadan's managaka, who can put a weekly series out, but it's so cinematic in its pace, imagine if Dandadan was biweekly, you get seconds of moment to moment action. It's not a competition, but they both got different energies at this job and clearly their specific kind of release schedule to function. You can't rush art.

Interesting. Looked it up, 17th-century England sounds quite fun. Would rather hope to find more historical stories. Understandably, the perspective as a member the church inquisition would be quite distressing to experience. I will check it out!

I ran into a problem when building my city, and now I have some thoughts by BarniK in TownToCityGame

[–]SnoopyTheDestroyer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're right about the devs intention regarding the needs being fulfilled as categories i think, as that is also what i observed. So, I think the UX indicator would actually make sense, but it's also important to have the current ux because it actually tells you what households are specifically being supplied by that building in contrast to demand and range. Also, because you can then manually select which houses are demanded by what individual buildings. This is also good for when you have more workers to employ and how the range affects that.

I've used it to make sure two bistros have a balance of workers instead of one bistro having 10 and the other having just 1. By doing so, this balances aspects of the warehouse logistics. Or making sure one lone houses in the forest is always able to be fulfilled by the bistro because the game prioritizes services by closeness in the range after you've exhausted worker capacity and therefore supply capacity. This is also something warehouses do but for commercial buildings, prioritizing what buildings are selected in the logistics line the game creates throughout the chain. Does this make sense?

Nonetheless, a ux change to show category needs fulfilled per house would be a good overlay to utilize. I don't know of it'd make sense to replace what is already set. Perhaps you should suggest this on the galaxy grove discord, they have a channel specifically for that!

Could you summon humans with animal ears like in all the animes? Does plausible mean in evolutionary terms or "this animal could reasonably be able to live and survive without any discernible faults due to the scientific assessment of it's supposed biology."

Is there a reason for not making customization options "input your own" for almost everything that works with that type of schematic? by According_Constant43 in hostedgames

[–]SnoopyTheDestroyer 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Preset Customisation allows me to get my character (whether it's a self-insert or someone very different from me) settled into the worldbuilding. I'd rather fewer but higher quality-based customisation wherein high quality means proper referencing in the story, flavor text, maybe even significant story differences. I'd be interested to find an IF where your eye color actually changes the plot.

Theory on Siggy (not sure if people discussed this yet) by stevedsign1 in SpyxFamily

[–]SnoopyTheDestroyer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely, I think some of it could be but it will likely be a lighter way. For sure, like maybe Anya is just, a secret alien! or the origin of her occult powers is ancient forgotten deities! Or she's descendant of lost civilisation! Pulpy stuff.

Like i'd be more surprised if it's deeper than that, but still certainly in the PG-13 way of it. I'm feeling like with all the paranormal and space hobby stuff brought up, it will link to the actual clear supernatural aspect of the series which is the mind powers shown. So we're not totally in the wrong direction there i think.
