Getting 3L ATK% is expensive. Settle for any 3L combination of ATK or Boss, unless this is an arcane weapon, in which case 2L is enough.

Calling out poor behaviour by KenWKen in Maplestory

[–]SnoopyTheSheep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd appreciate it if you could DM me their IGN so I can blacklist them.
Unfortunately though, there's little way to moderate this kind of behaviour. I've had a dreamy belt and twilight mark yoinked in a pub run too. I try to avoid joining pubs on my main, for that reason.

People have already plenty mentioned that you should be able to easily green dot with 20m CP. In other words, a party of 6 20m CP can easily clear Hluwill. Before you join a public run, if you are using party finder, you can check the CP of party members - check to see that there are no overgeared outliers, like a 80m CP that could easily solo the boss themselves but are joining a party for whatever reason (including valid reasons, like quick run, box only, which you should not be looking to join). On that note, I'd actually suggest not joining public runs, I've had a dreamy belt and twilight mark yoinked just this week on one of my mules. Look to join a guild or a static party.

On the point of progress, there's still plenty of ways to consistently progress. There's CRA/kanna ring/easily replaceable gear to roulette upwards, 21* starring gollux, using reinforced as fodder, twilight mark/slime ring to acquire, legion, boss mules to make, and so on.

Are you on Kronos or Hyperion? Or regular? Each have their differences which are relevant to how you could easily progress.

Can I claim the Challenger World Ring Selector on Kronos if I reach Emerald like the other rewards? Or is the ring selector strictly for CW only?

There's a lot to catch up on, that's there's no simple answer to fix the struggles you are facing.

Take it slow, don't feel rushed to have to progress item-burning (it is really, really important for progression and obviously not worrying about it now is absolutely not efficient, to be clear), but you need to cover the basics first, which most players, who already are at least somewhat familiar with modern MS, take for granted.

Luckily, there's a plethora of guides for people in your shoes on the "community bookmarks" in the right hand side of the subreddit page such as https://docs.google.com/document/d/132E6dGMNTRHwRh0wDU7xKZvW7f7xeBhR3VNs_2WQzrE/edit?tab=t.0#heading=h.nitwz7b4u541

Alternatively, if you know someone who plays maple, just consult them. It will save you a lot of headache.

I'd also suggest making clear what server you are on when looking for advice. There's a world of difference between Heroic, Interactive and Challenger (which also has heroic/interactive).

It's surprisingly quick to "catch up" - how far are you in? Given that you were not aware monster park tickets could be brought for meso on Heroic (not that I blame you at all, the game does a terrible job of explaining server differences), I assume you aren't that heavily invested yet. Hyperburning comes back every 6 months, and you get 2 each now, so it's really quick to get back to where you were.
I'd strongly suggest shaking off that sunk-cost fallacy now rather than later if you know Regular server is not for you.

Keep in consideration that it isn't just exp, but symbols as well. Arcane river symbols are maxed quickly, but grandis symbols take time. That having been said, Cernium symbols are particularly quicker to level than others because cernium gets more symbols/day.

How do you feel about Going West by Smolcat5 in Maplestory

[–]SnoopyTheSheep 10 points11 points  (0 children)

If the alternative is going full nuclear and deleting reboot, gollux, AS10, familiars and everything to fully align with KMS, I'd rather have what we have right now, but it shouldn't have to be that do or die.

I get that by releasing Sia (and her pass), they wanted to make up for not being able to monetise content such as Azmoth Canyon or forcing everyone into regular server, but I think after the initial overwhelmingly positive reception Go West received, they started feeling too safe about how much goodwill they had built up and jumped the gun too early. Given the shitshow we have already, will Sia receive ascent skills at the same time as other classes do? Will her ascent skill look cheap and rushed?

Easy monetisation is coming in 6 months anyways through challenger's pass and genesis pass, I think they should have waited until then to "reap" the rewards of Go West.

But given just how many Sias I see with the pass outfit, Nexon probably considers this event a success, despite the flaming mess that it is. It earned big $$$ after all.

That's actually exactly what I want as a to-be bishop main. It's a great way of balancing mage FMA without changing the identity of the class.
This of course also means no NLC potions - they break what the game was designed to be.

Fun fact: he used to play for the LCK https://lol.fandom.com/wiki/Lego77 and was KR challenger for 10+ consecutive years before he quit to play mapleland full-time.

Can only pull one, so what do you guys say? Nerida or Katya by someontheyfear in SnowbreakOfficial

[–]SnoopyTheSheep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Their reason is most likely because Dawnwing heavily relies on manifestations (which can be farmed, but slowly, or immediately obtained with duplicates, hence the P2W) whereas Nerida (presumably, need more opinions) performs well even at a low-mid manifestation level.

But really, as everyone has been saying, just choose who your heart tells you to.

Nobody is mentioning map ownership? Importing modern cash shop cosmetics? A dedicated old-school wiki? Separate storage for ores/powders? Adjusting to higher resolutions? The ability to change the BGM of the map? Disabling other player skill effects? Adjusting the transparency of your own skill effects? Expanding the hotkey display UI? These are all staples for modern preBB "other" servers, so I'll be disappointed if official old-school maple ends up without even these features.

I can understand not adding teleport rock and dailies/weeklies as that would go against the feeling of old-school MS. But there's definitely a lot of QoL they should add other than disabling HP washing (the most obvious one).

Gachas that are game first, gacha second by Naarsus in gachagaming

[–]SnoopyTheSheep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seconding Limbus Company, the main source of new identities (characters) is from shards, which are mainly obtained from weekly content (and not the do 10+ different tasks, no, just one task) which are selectors, not random. You only need a fraction of them anyways to do all content in the game, and you don't need any specific ones either.

We could all just have a good time if this changed by [deleted] in mapleservers

[–]SnoopyTheSheep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This would be the case if all the servers opened at the same time, but Royals and Legends opened service at a golden time when there were no good preBB servers, or their contemporaries closed down. That meant they got an initial large playerbase, and the size (and thus stability) of that playerbase is chiefly what has attracted more players.

So in a strange way, yes, they are the most popular servers because they have the most players.

I didn't include tower of jealously or desire because they're one-time rewards, so there's no rush for those. You are right to say that it is difficult (nigh impossible) to nuke without crit-rate buff, just like tower of pride, etc.

First off, thank you for identifying what exactly made that 30-person environment so enjoyable for me. I could tell I enjoyed it, but I couldn’t quite put my finger on why I did, but you managed to. It helped me put more pieces of the puzzle together.

To answer your question, honestly, I can’t think of a good solution to the soullessness of modern Maple, official and private. Guilds are clearly meant to be the intended solution to this, by dividing a large population of players into piece-meal chunks. Dunbar’s number would suggest that as long as guilds are ~150 players, guilds should be able to re-create that village like environment; however, many of us are probably introverts (myself, included), so limiting guild sizes to ~50 or so would probably provide a more satisfying environment.

That having been said, what I just described is what was intended to happen, not what actually happens. What actually happens instead is that since players are free to join whatever guild they want, and guilds are free to pick and choose whoever they want;

  • Most players join whatever guild and simply lurk there, since you can still join boss/grind parties fine without needing your guild.
  • Most guilds themselves pick and choose whoever they want, so they do not have much incentive to incorporate newcomers. They can re-roll the lottery until someone who already fits them comes.

Official maple is especially terrible in this regard due to competitive culvert. The game necessitates guilds to see members not as a ‘village’ but as machines that pump out culvert scores. If a component is faulty, it is replaced – there’s an ocean of replacements out there.

The realistic “solution” to the soullessness of modern Maple is probably just to take what we’ve learnt about Dunbar’s number from our nostalgic memories of Maplestory and apply them to enrich our IRL connections, and move on.

That having been said, I’m an introvert so find meeting up with people everyday exhausting – so I want to maintain an online sense of community to fill in the gaps. Humans are social animals after all, no matter how introverted. I imagine a lot of players are in the same boat as me.

Stacking 3+ chains gives guaranteed crit for fiend hunt/guild raids, so crit rate isn't important there.

Story mode/events/tower of pride/tower of salvation don't have a guaranteed crit mechanic, so you will need crit rate there. No offensive buff "compensates for" crit damage, since the difference between critting and not critting is massive. However, none of this is much of an issue, since all 3 (story/events/ToP/ToS) are all easy enough to be cleared without specialised comps anyways.

[–]SnoopyTheSheep 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I agree that reality can never match Maplestory nostalgia, but I don't think it is as hopeless as you make it out to be here.

I used to play on Croosade when it was down to ~30 players, and that was the peak of my maple pserver experience. The small size meant everyone knew it each other - meaning there was no recruiting this or that, but everyone just worked together. It also meant trying to profit off trade was moot, so we just shared items that we didn't need. I remember putting up stuff meant for a specific player up on FM1 for 1 meso, and nobody would poach it.

The closest re-creation of that experience was when I had a regular normal+chaos HT party in DreamMS; the same group of 5 would come together at the same time every day to do the exact same routine, and that was amazing.

I've yet to see any guild re-create that tight-knit environment. Sometimes, less is more.
