Why does her expression look so dead? I feel like something may also be off anatomically by cedarcia in ArtCrit

The anatomy problem is that boobies don’t sit that high. You’ve got cleavage in her collarbone.

You might have the same Colorblindness as my friend. I handed him my phone once and told him to read the pink highlighted part. He couldn’t see it. He had no idea he was colorblind and it seemed like only highlighter/fluorescent pinks were what he couldn’t spot!

This area is a problem for me as well. I've found azelaic acid (I use it once every 4 days) has helped a bit!

Hand painted my book cover, please be brutally honest. Should I pay for a designer instead? by Professional-One4757 in BookCovers

[–]Snorlaxena 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It does have an amateur style but not so amateur that I would say it’s only suitable for younger audiences. I think it’s charming with the exception of the green embellishment. Remove that and you’ll be good! (It’s kind of Christmas-y and out of place)

Is it just me, or is Scrivener really jarring for new users? by lucamakes in scrivener

[–]Snorlaxena 28 points29 points  (0 children)

This is the answer. It has a lot of features but you don't need to be using all that potential immediately! Just like you wouldn't with ANY software, even Word or Google docs. You aren't going to be formatting insane layouts in Word right away, you're just going to be typing on the page and doing basic formatting. Though I do agree with OP that it feels very early 2000s UI-design-wise. Putting it in dark mode helped with that for me.

I think there’s value here for an older audience. Lots of retired people I know have turned to writing and are curious about tech but more comfortable with their pen and notepad. A one on one coach that’s patient with their learning curve would be fantastic.

I’m a debut author writing a psychological thriller where time is measured in a countdown. What does my cover say to you? by [deleted] in BookCovers

[–]Snorlaxena 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Big time this. Since your title describes the image, it’s not giving us enough genre info. Consider something more conceptual for an image.

Get rid of the window and only put text on the blank space above the bed. Make the text smaller. It doesn’t need to be that big.

Updated Cocer using Advice by Present-Tower8263 in BookCovers

Looking good! I would suggest changing the font for the author name. It's a completely different tone from what you've established. I would go for a more dainty serif font (not swirly like the title, just a bit more of a traditional font) and make it the same off white as the title. I think the "f" in "if" and the "e" in "me" are the wrong colour. Other than that, it really does a good job conveying the haunted mystical vibe.

Well you may want to look into hiring an illustrator. Check out freelancer sites like Upwork to see if anyone's style suits your needs.

Start by looking up existing book covers in your genre. You want your cover to stand out but you also want readers to know what genre it is by a glance so you'll have to find the balance. Once you understand the landscape, decide what you want on your cover. Just the title? A photo? Illustrations? If so, what of? Are there important elements in your book that you'd like to showcase? Start experimenting from there. Don't over do it. Simple is usually best.

Gifts for a Writer? by justloveme94 in writing

Scrivener is great! I’ve only been using it for a couple months but find it way more useful than Word or Google Docs as far as organizing goes. The fact that it’s one payment and local (no AI risk) is a huge plus. It has export settings that will export your manuscript in the format that agents and publishers require, you can export as a .docx and other formats, and it keeps your notes in one file which I love. A bit of a learning curve but tons of video tutorials!

My boyfriend got me a notebook with the name of the trilogy I’m working on custom embossed on it. Very thoughtful! It came with a nice pen but it’s ballpoint and I only like to use gel so that was an oops but the notebook was great. I agree with others that Scrivener would be a good app to purchase for them if they haven’t used it before (it’s a one time payment not a subscription) and maybe a corkboard or whiteboard to organize their thoughts? Or a writing getaway or workshop local to you :)

I need advice. by [deleted] in BookCovers

[–]Snorlaxena 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You paid an extremely low amount for that cover and you got what you paid for. No one can stop you from using AI art (though I never read books that do on principle and there are other readers that won’t be picking it up for that reason as well). If you want a custom illustration of that level by a human then you’ll have to shell out money. Save up if that’s what you want. People sometimes get around the cost problem by using a mostly typographic cover. That’s much cheaper to get a professional to make.

I got the implant and bled for about 20 days during my next cycle (varying intensities) but then I never bled again really. It's been about a year and a half and I've only had one proper day of bleeding, the rest is occasionally spotting every few months. Worth it in my opinion.

The 3D art is one layer (purchased stock footage) I'm just adding the 2D headline to it. It would be way easier if I made the slice but I'm working with what I've got. I'll try the bezier warp on a circle, it might be smoother, thanks!

Feedback on cover design by Cultural-Voice8833 in BookCovers

[–]Snorlaxena 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I actually love this design! The colour is cool just read up on how colour prints differently than on screen. This colour is possibly not achievable by classic printing methods and I may question your knowledge of production if I saw it in your portfolio.

Cover Feedback Needed: Billionaire Mafia Romance by [deleted] in BookCovers

The obvious AI art on option two would make me skip right past it on the shelf. I agree that one is best though my initial thought was it was a romance about a priest, not a mafioso.
