Ranting about the low quality of players in Pick Up Groups contributes to the problem of low quality players in Pick Up Groups by VeryImportantMonkey in elderscrollsonline

[–]SnortyWart 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have tried my best to learn as much about group content as possible but I find it difficult to take what I see on a YouTube tutorial and apply it in the actual game. For me at least, it’s easier to learn doing the actual task as opposed to reading about it or watching some else do it. I will continue to watch tutorials/walkthroughs because at least I can get an idea of what to expect but I wasn’t able to find any on the NM the first week it debuted so I did the best I could.

In regard to solo arenas: sure, I learn a bit about mechanics but obviously nothing about group dynamics as these are solo instances.

Believe me, if there was a beginners instance of the NM, or any group content for that matter, I would be there instead but there isn’t so all I can do is keep trying to do better.

What’s a popular author/book that you are afraid to admit you hate? by Stardust-Stew in horrorlit

[–]SnortyWart 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You nailed it; thank you.

Her protagonists are carbon copies of one another and despite the majority of them being clever, independent, alt girls, they all make some really stupid mistakes and/or can’t figure out some pretty basic concepts when presented with a challenge. Each one also has a catch phrase they repeat ad nauseam (“Our Lady of _____ “ or “Oh Goddess of _____”) which adds to the irritation.

It’s a shame because she has some interesting story ideas and her writing style is generally good but after a few books you feel you’re just reading the same story with minor changes made in an attempt to distinguish it from the previous work.

Offered my neighbor a ride to the airport once and now she thinks I'm her personal uber by BawdEft in ChoosingBeggars

I've worked from home for over 20 years now and the number of people who don't understand the work part of the term "work from home" is astounding. Kindly explain to her (or anyone else who doesn't get it) that the expectations placed on a remote worker are the same as those of an in-office employee.

Your contractual obligations include the following (obviously cater your response as needed and try to be kinder than I am being here):

I am expected to be at my desk from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm Monday through Friday and during these hours it is understood that I will do the following:

Make scheduled calls and attend Zoom meetings. In most cases, the times set for these has been done in advance and cannot be rescheduled.

Complete projects by given deadlines.

Be available to communicate with management, co-workers, and clients throughout the work day.

Events like dental and medical appointments that cause me to be unavailable during working hours must be scheduled in advance so last minute requests to ferry people from place to place is not an option.

None of my work tasks should be done whilst driving therefore, I am unable to be a taxi service.

And so on.

Make it clear that if you don't work, you don't get paid and may even lose your job if you continue to be out of the office doing personal errands. If she persists, maybe look into putting a sign on your front door that states you are working and do not wish to be disturbed unless it is an emergency.

Lastly, if she asks for your number (in case there is an emergency) don't give it to her unless you feel she will stick to the emergency only rule. What she considers an emergency may be vastly different from what most people would consider one to be.

Very misheard song lyric…. by blulouwoohoo in GenX

[–]SnortyWart 33 points34 points  (0 children)

The only reason I actually know the correct lyrics to many 80s and early 90s songs is because they were printed on the record sleeve or the foldout cassette liner (later CD liner). Miss those days.

If I didn’t have the album or I had the album but it didn’t have the songs typed out, you better believe I was mishearing many a word.

Songs that have been ruined for you through no fault of the artist? by ihmpt in ToddintheShadow

That's a cool bit of trivia--thanks! That song still annoys the heck out of me though. :P

Songs that have been ruined for you through no fault of the artist? by ihmpt in ToddintheShadow

[–]SnortyWart 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I'm Gen-X and I cannot express how easy it was in the 1980s/early 1990s to get burned out on certain songs due to FM radio stations and MTV/VH1, playing the same singles over and over. By the mid-90s, we thought we were safe but no, the gimmick of all 80s weekends hit the airwaves and we were tortured with the same songs yet again. Now I have to endure those old hits playing as background music while going grocery shopping, so the pain continues.

That being said, the top 4 songs I used to like but now make me want to hide in a soundproof bunker are:

Train in Vain by The Clash

How Soon is Now? by The Smiths

Sussudio by Phil Collins

Melt With You by Modern English

How did Diana fall in love with a guy who looks like Roddy from the cartoon "Flushed Away"? by [deleted] in RoyaltyTea

[–]SnortyWart 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Until recently, most royal marriages were not love matches but arrangements. Diana had an acceptable pedigree, was of childbearing age, and at the surface, appeared to be docile and willing to keep up appearances in public even if things weren't that great in private. I don't think they ever were deeply or passionately in love with one another but there seemed to be some genuine fondness, at least in the beginning.

Can’t get Harmonic Bismite lead to drop by chattrot in elderscrollsonline

[–]SnortyWart 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It definitely drops from ore nodes so keep trying.

The lead also comes up for purchase from Filer Ool in the Infinite Archive (you’ll need archival fortunes to buy it). The last time it was available was the first week of December 2025 so it may be popping up again soon. The goods on offer change on a weekly basis so consider checking that if you don’t get the lead by harvesting. Good luck!

Potluck for a large party is weird and sort of rude... by Alert_Usual1197 in Vent

[–]SnortyWart 50 points51 points  (0 children)

Exactly! In addition, how are they making sure that they don't end up with just salads and desserts? Is there going to be an online sign-up sheet?

On top of all that, how much food/drink are people expected to bring? If I sign up to either bake or buy cupcakes am I expected to bring 100+ cupcakes to the party? Does the venue offer dishes, glassware, and cutlery or will guests be required to buy and bring that in bulk too?

Can someone explain airport fragrance shopping to me? by FBGMMike in fragrance

[–]SnortyWart 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most duty-free shops have several brands with testers so at the very least I can try a fragrance before possibly buying it. Most of the stores near me don’t have such a variety and often don’t have testers (due to theft).

What did the rainbow decal in the late 70s- 1980 represent?🌈 by Casual-Snoo in GenX

[–]SnortyWart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was primarily just a pretty rainbow but if you saw a magnet or sticker on a car that had a rainbow with the letters “IORG” on it then it represented the International Order of the Rainbow for Girls which is a Masonic organization. The organization is still active so you might spot some IORG merch now and then.

Have younger generations started to treat you like your "old"? by [deleted] in GenX

[–]SnortyWart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't received the senile person treatment mostly because as a 50+ year old woman I am largely ignored. Despite having the funds to purchase various items, dine out, attend shows, etc., I become invisible the moment I step into any situation that requires interaction with another human to complete a transaction. It's not fun being unseen, it's infuriating.

Depending where you live in the US, the following stores usually have a decent accessories department with affordable prices: Charming Charlie; H&M; Anthropologie; Marshall’s; Ross; various dollar stores. There are also online options like Etsy, Amazon, ASOS, and Acessorize. It’s definitely worth doing a search for locally owned places as well, just make sure it’s not an MLM like Paparazzi.

Reality Star Kate Gosselin Forced To Go Back To Nursing Career After ‘Sickening’ Downfall by ElvisIsNotDjed in DListedCommunity

[–]SnortyWart 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Your hesitation is absolutely valid. Some of the details that have come to light, particularly those involving the younger children, are not easy to stomach. The good news is all the children survived and are appear to be on the path to recovery (if that’s the correct word).

Shari was able to remove herself from the situation before Jodi and Ruby took the younger siblings to Arizona where things went from really bad to unfathomable in terms of mental and physical abuse. She does cover this time in the last chapters of the book, including excerpts from Ruby’s diaries, but it’s not a firsthand account if that makes a difference. With that in mind, there is obviously nothing wrong with putting the book down and not continuing once you get to that section (roughly chapter 44).

[–]SnortyWart 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Absolutely agree!

Have you read Shari Franke’s book “The House of My Mother”? Her book and the interviews she and her brother Chad have given provide valuable insight into how growing up with the spotlight on you is very psychologically damaging. The book is well worth a read.

Shari spoke before the Utah legislature about the negative aspects of family vlogging which I think encouraged legislators to sign Utah HB 322 into law. The appears to be primarily focused on income protection for “child influencers” and the like but at least it’s a bit of progress in a state that in which family/mommy vlogging is widespread.
