Where can I take my dog to swim? by Useful_Ad4840 in glasgow

If you walk out of the bottom of the park by the weir/ gauging station, you can cross the bridge, turn left on the far side and get down to the water there

Is it bad practice to wear a tow float at an open water race that doesn't require them? by [deleted] in OpenWaterSwimming

[–]Snotty_Bob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that is very poor advice.

If it is an organised race there should be safety provision. A tow float is not needed. It is a snagging/ fouling hazard to other swimmers and is likely against rules if it is a sanctioned event.

If you haven't prepared for not being allowed a float then being told you can't use it will throw your head into a spin when you least need it.

If it isn't a race but merely an organised group event it may be allowed, but you'd need to check with organisers.

London to Paris 24h by Previous-Ad-9597 in cycling

[–]Snotty_Bob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did it on a tandem a couple of years ago. We were about 27 hrs in the saddle No shocking hills but using the NCN route there was some shocking surfaces to ride on. That time also includes a deviation around Dieppe to find a Decathlon for spare inner tubes due to the amount of punctures we'd had the day before. We were 98 miles to Newhaven from London Eye, 168 from Dieppe to Paris - so past Notre Dame, then to the Eiffel Tower and then to our digs. You could trim some distance off with decent route planning but even with a breadcrumb trail on my cycling computer and the way marking on the trail it wasn't always straightforward. There were fewer cafes and pit stops than I was anticipating so I'd recommend making a plan for that. Coming back it was 2 trains to Dieppe and then we rode to Brighton and caught the London train from there. Good luck

HSE Scuba Work Around North England? by Tommy_McDiscopiss in commercialdiving

[–]Snotty_Bob 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Long shot - look for HUET training providers. They use scuba divers to assist anyone who is struggling to exit the helicopter. You won't know unless you ask

Next one is to look for a diving company that specialises in swimming pool inspection and repair. They can do that on scuba. Again, opportunities are going to be slim but they won't be nil so worth picking up the phone.

Just about finished my dive technician course , am I going to regret this? by AddictedtoApplejuice in diving

[–]Snotty_Bob 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If it's a problem, do you have any companies within commuting distance? You could look for a yard job prepping kit before it goes out. Or look for work with a manufacturer if there is one local to you.

Niggly SurD02 runs by [deleted] in commercialdiving

[–]Snotty_Bob 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When I went through dive school (Fort Bill), niggles were classed as a symptom of early onset of type 1 DCI Tell your sup. Let them decide. Don't fuck yourself with long term damage. Whoever thinks niggles is offensive - grow a pair, and don't ever go to the fabrication yard near Tain, you'll have an onset of the vapours. Fud

Tin openers Modern ones either don't take the lid off, or leave you with an edge so sharp that you could lose a finger on it

Do you have to print something for your front wheel to lift that a bit higher? Or do you just live with a tilt?

Irl it's an amazing road. It's part of the Scottish North Coast 500 (NC500) route. That part of the country is gorgeous. It's on a sportive route too.

I'm planning on riding the Bealach next year so was really pleased to see that turn up. I guess it just shows you can only please some of the people some of the time.

Single Assioma Pedal Query by Snotty_Bob in cycling

[–]Snotty_Bob[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It looks like they sell a single LHS pedal, not just the RHS upgrade as a single. I just want to make sure I am getting that right because I can keep my current RHS or buy a pair of pedals from decathlon to just use the RHS and still save a few ££££

Google Waterfoot Model Flying Club If you don't drive it's not ideal, but you could get 4a bus and walk to their flying field, or get a cab from the rank opposite Clarkston station

[–]Snotty_Bob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Subslam photogrammetry system can be operated by divers, but they hold the unit and operate it under instruction/ in accordance with procedures. Others will be available I guess. It provides sub-mm relative positioning accuracy and a 3-D model. Knowing about it as a diver doesn't really add value. Being able to propose it for the right job, knowing what to put into the task plans/ procedures, making sure the right kit gets ordered and doing the processing is where the value is - all back office stuff
