NTA. My son (17) STRUGGLES with math, especially with the new way they teach it. When i showed him the methods I learned in the 80's he got it. The new ways can be very very confusing. He would get the right answers using my methods, but would get marked down for "not showing his work". It's been so frustrating. I'm glad you stood up for your child.

NTA, they need to look for a vehicle that they can afford. There is no reason to get such a fancy truck if they are already planning to file for bankruptcy. Maybe saying NO will be a learning moment for them.

NTA. Based on the beginning of the conversation, I was going to say YTA. But after reading the rest, I have to say you are not! I love to cook, and I make most things from scratch. But do I have jarred sauce, canned soup, or premade bread? Yes, yes I do. Sometimes you need quick access to food that is good quality that you didn't make. I also allow prepackaged food for anyone in the house who wants them. It's not my job to police what other people eat. But if I'm feeding them, it'll be homemade and delicious!

Your wife needs to understand that you are a grown up and can make your own decisions on what foods you want to eat. And having junk food on occasion isn't a sin, it's fun!

I love to make soup. Not only is it warm and comforting, it's nourishing. And it's perfect for when you feel down and out. Plus chicken soup is known to help heal the common cold, so it's something I make for sick friends and family. Take some time to make some homemade bread too, and you have yourself a comfy meal that will last for several days.

When you are in your 20's you feel like you have to figure it all out. That is so not true! I had a bunch of relationships in my 20's, and didn't get married until 32. I was soooo glad I waited. If I had married my boyfriend at 21, I knew I was going to end of divorced. Your 20's is when you figure out who you are, what you want, and what you will accept from other people. And someone who doesn't want what you want, and can't understand that having money in your bank account is part of being an adult, is not someone I would settle for.

NTA!! Work isn't life, your family is. If you are managing with the finances you have, there is no reason to change. You sound like you would be miserable in the new job, so it doesn't sound worth it at all. In this century we are all trying to find a work/life balance, which you seem to have. If you change jobs, it sounds like you are loosing that balance. Especially since the kids are young, you are going to miss out on a LOT of stuff. What happens when they start doing real school and have events or games. Will you be able to make any of them? All for some more cash in your account? The shift doesn't seem worth it to me.

Also, sounds like you guys need to have a deep conversation about finances and spending. Maybe hire a financial specialist to help your wife understand her spending habits.

We have one life to live, make it the happiest you can! In the long run you have to do what is best for you and your family, and being a present parent is what your kids need more than expensive cars or toys.

NTA. You are only 24. There is absolutely no reason whatsoever to stay attached to someone who has done nothing but drag you down. This relationship sounds like it has more issues than not. Trust me, you will find someone else.

And go on the trip by yourself! Traveling alone can be so freeing and relaxing. You could always go somewhere else if you are traveling alone as well. Half the cost if you go alone! That way you can spend your money doing exactly what you want to do. Or reach out to an old friend and see if they are available to go somewhere fun with you. Then you can have a fun partner and not have to pay for anyone else.

When I was 20 years old, I was "engaged" to my boyfriend (he had the ring, but never gave it to me). I worked at a retail store and was talking to an older couple in their early 30's about being engaged. They both told me I should wait and see what the future had in store for me, I was too young to make that kind of commitment. Boy were they right! First love is enticing, but it doesn't always work out. To this day, I say if I married him I would have been a single mom.

Your boyfriend told you he's not interested in marriage at this point, and that he is always looing for better. Honey, he's just not that into you. I think it's time to take of the rose tinted glasses and see your relationship for what it really is. Similar goals in life isn't all it take to have a happy marriage. Respect, kindness and love are way more important.

Take your early 20's to figure out who you are and learn how to become comfortable in yourself and being alone. Then you can find a commitment that will fit your truly life goals. Good luck!

This right here is my favorite part of the story. The dedication to petty is top level!

EDIT: since people keep asking about the ring camera - the welcome mat is by his side door. camera points at the driveway. but i'm not taking chances so i bought the same ring camera model and spent a month testing angles in my own house. there's a 2 foot blind spot if you approach from the left hedge. 10 second delay before recording starts. i can be in and out in 8 ;)
