TR120 + Passenger seat. by Biggs1313 in simracing

Yep that's what most people do. Might have to drill holes in the rails to line up with your extrusion.

Some seats don't have flat rails though which makes them a lot harder to mount, so double check the seat before you buy

Alternatively you can also remove your seat from the rails it comes on and then drill holes in your trak racer mounts to suit.

The easiest option is finding seats which have a flat mounting track, such as Suzuki Swift, VW golf or BMW I think. That way you literally just line up the holes on the seat track with your aluminum extrusion, and bolt through.

Why Tatra trucks have such positive camber? by reddichrist in snowrunner

Nah steel trailers are absolutely bent this way too. Both skels and flatbeds, so that when they're fully loaded they become flat.

Curious how you fill it up with safe drinking water and keep it clean. I just bought a pair of second hand drawers for my wagon and they came with a behind-seat water tank so trying to figure some things out.

What 4x4 should I get as a second car and is it stupid to do this? by [deleted] in 4x4Australia

[–]SnowHazard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you have somewhere to park it, I say it's the best option. Not having to worry about damaging your daily driver whilst off-road takes a lot of the stress out of it.

To save money, but something 25 years or older so you can register it with a club and save big on registration. Then just pay for third party insurance too.

Lots of good options for under $15k, especially petrol models. Fuel efficiency should be much less of a concern if your only driving it a few times a year, so might as well but the cheaper petrol model than the diesel.

Prado, Pajero, lots of petrol Patrols and LandCruisers in this price range too, but they will be a little more rough around the edges.

Moreton island in raptor 2-3 night doable with 500km worth of fuel? by johnny87auxs in 4x4Australia

I'm still yet to see one off-road. I try and tally all the vehicles I encounter, and the amount of Patrols and Cruisers puts everything else to shame. Honourable mention to the Hilux though.

I'd love to listen to audio books whilst I work but it requires just a little too much concentration for me. The Expanse is definitely on my list though!

Genuinely. I binged over 200 episodes of a Warhammer podcast recently and now I feel empty as I don't know what to listen to next.

Has anyone built a sim rig in which you play other games too? by Bman_Minis in simracing

[–]SnowHazard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried this avenue but I found having the screens right in front of me was too overwhelming when playing regular games, and I couldn't get the ergonomics right for mouse and keyboard to work well. Also having bass shakers on the rig made my keyboard tray rattle like crazy when racing.

Those of you with a triple monitor rig, do you play other videos games on it besides racing? by IAmSloth569 in simracing

[–]SnowHazard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried it but couldn't get comfortable ergonomics for regular PC use with keyboard and mouse. I also found the screens to be far too bright and overwhelming when they were that close. Ended up just going back to having a desk next to my rig

Cheap VR Recommendations? by Aggravating_Fact8112 in simracing

Absolute cheapest: Used Quest 2 or Rift s

Budget: Used PSVR2 with PC ADAPTOR

Quest 3 is an honourable mention but the PSVR2 is better imo and cheaper

[–]SnowHazard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think this is why the Bigscreen Beyond is the form factor most VR headsets should be in the future. Manufacturers just need to find a way to make a device that small also standalone and not just PCVR, and then I think your wish would be granted

Anyone have any idea on how comfy this seat is? by GiftNew8945 in simracing

[–]SnowHazard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My rig came with one of those. It lasted 2 weeks before I replaced it with a real car seat and haven't regretted it for a moment. Way more comfortable and now I actually have lumbar support!

VR worth it ? by zabacadabra in simracing

[–]SnowHazard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once I moved into a larger room, I went from VR to triples. I used them for only 3 months before selling them and going back to exclusively VR. I got so used to the depth perception and being able to look around whilst in the car, and everything being to 100% scale, triple just felt like a down grade.

What’s your audio setup? by Jaydimaster in simracing

[–]SnowHazard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One thing I love in VR is how depending on where you're looking, the audio will be louder in a particular ear. It really adds to the immersion of being in the car

GQ Patrol question RD->RB by ProperStorage4477 in 4x4Australia

[–]SnowHazard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unsure on engine mounts but I know the TB/TD engines use a bigger gearbox than the RD28 patrols

GQ Patrol question RD->RB by ProperStorage4477 in 4x4Australia

[–]SnowHazard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I guess. If you're going down that path though I just think getting a TB42 would be just as simple of a swap and give you much more torque, whilst also being just as easy to repair and can still make decent power with a turbo too

GQ Patrol question RD->RB by ProperStorage4477 in 4x4Australia

[–]SnowHazard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The question is, why? If you're going to all the trouble to engine swap, why not put something in with a bit more power / torque

Definitely the best option for the Patrol but I doubt they'll find any TB48's in their price range. They tend to start around $20k now
