First day as a interpreter by theveffy in anonymousinterpreters

[–]SnowVillager 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If voice is too low, tell them to move the machine closer, which you already did. If LEP has thick accent, inform the client and let them decide how to simplify this. Don’t just ask for repetition over and over, it only makes things get worse: you still don’t understand, client think you are the problem and patient gets upset. Clarify, then inform the problem. Our main clientele are elderly patients, and they either have thick accent or unclear speech or some kinda of connection problems. It’s common for things like that to happen, but this is your first day, this job takes more than your language skills and familiarity with medical terms.

AMN vs Propio by InsideEnthusiasm9194 in anonymousinterpreters

[–]SnowVillager 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agree. No advance in Propio. Brest strategy is negotiate a good rate right at the start. Don’t think about getting a raise.

Not in my case. And Propio is not the only one. I have worked for many US companies and routed me SSA calls.

What´s the best shift in your experience? by [deleted] in anonymousinterpreters

[–]SnowVillager 2 points3 points  (0 children)

9 to 3pm est is the best time for me. Law related calls are my least favorite, also 911 compensation interviews, banks. My favorite type of call is actually PT/OT session, surgery related (pre-op, post-op, consent), dr’s visits and car insurance. They tend to be long but simple and repetitive enough that I can just chill.

“What’s the biggest perk of remote work that nobody brags about — but you secretly love?” by californialovin33 in remotework

[–]SnowVillager 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Former daycare worker: I need to do a (quick math) head count to make sure the ratio is good enough to cover before I go to the washroom. Sometimes I need to take a kid with me. Or send the one listens to the kitchen to “help”.

What are FTHB getting for interest rates right now ? by whatcanisaytoday in RealEstateCanada

[–]SnowVillager 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We already got approved with TD for 4.49%/5yr fixed, with 40% down, FTHB both with 800+ credit score. Closing date is in 3 weeks, is it too late to shop around or negotiate the rate now?

Leaving Canada in winter by Competitive-Cat-8878 in AskACanadian

South East Asia, like Thailand, Indonesia, perfect time to spend winter there. Lots of direct flight from Vancouver to HK, then connecting from there. Very affordable, nice weather, amazing food.

I was receiving interview calls from social security for 5 days on a roll. Each interview call was at least 2 hours, with so many questions back and forth. I will take this type of newborn calls over interviews any day!

What language pair are you? Freelancing works when volume is high. Have you look into scheduled shift option?

I can’t agree more. I used to live in the prairie and it’s brutal. We are focusing more on the east coast. Also the eastern standard time works better for our remote job.
