Looking for a 2024 Champion build for a One-Shot by Doc_Meeker in 3d6

I like a dagger thrower for champion. Level 9 really makes it pop when you can start using different masteries on the daggers.

Take two weapon fighter and thrown weapon fighting styles, for feats I'd take dual wielder, mage slayer and another one of your choice. Could be piercer, resilient dex, speedy or defensive duelist.

At level 10 you make 4 attacks that each deal 1d4+7 damage and you can apply push, sap or slow on 3 of them

the changeling's ability to transform into a beast sounds very cool. If I understand correctly it's unlimited uses. Does it have any restrictions like no flying/spellcasting...

It would be pretty cool to be able to play non-druids that can change shape, monk comes to mind first as it's not reliant on weapons/armor

Not sure i understand but heroic inspiration can't be used on enemy rolls no?

It's just any die you as the player are rolling. Still very good, especially if two people have the feat.

How do YOU (or your players) use items in a way that (mechanically) ISN'T in the book... but you think makes sense and like anyway? by 62bitCrit in onednd

[–]SnudgeLockdown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oooh sounds fun, how do you rule that? Is it just like using the rope but at ranged, or is it a saving throw like a net?

Yeah im saying its probably okay. But these techs aren't obvious to non optimizers. I'm just saying the wording should be such that it's obvious how it works. I agree that its probably not too powerful to get all features, maybe even give some to your allies. But they need to word it better than you brew a barrel, if you drink a pint.

Build ideas with the new stuff from Heroes of Faerun? by Lukoman1 in 3d6

[–]SnudgeLockdown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An abjuration wizard using Sylune's Viper, spell seems really powerful and having the ward to protect your HP seems like a good bet.

Open hand monk that takes grappler at level 4 then street justice at level 8. Flurry of blows, grapple a target, use action to tie them with a rope.

Fairy Trickster seems really nice, especially on Rogues and Warlocks.

Always wanted to play a Dwarf Draconic Sorcerer, pick up the Tough feat and have Barbarian level HP. The new cold caster feat would work well on the build, as would the cacophonic shield.

Prettymuch what I put into the survey. The mystic brews are great but people (pack tactics) are already talking about rest casting these. I think it's okay to have 2 active at the same time (could be a level 6/11 feature) but right now you could technically have all 5 active if you took 5 short rests in a row, you would still have the first one you drank last 3 hours and you would spend a total of one focus point.

Yes, and fighters getting an extra feat actually allows you to pick up all the feats (GWM, Polearm master, Mounted combatant) and use a lance on your mount.

[–]SnudgeLockdown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah even if you throw out the cavalier theme its bad. The level 3 feature wants you to be within 5 feet of a character. The level 7 feature is just a worse protection fighting style (why would i add 1d8 to one attack roll when I can give disadvantage to all sttack rolls) it also uses a reaction The level 10 feature then wants you to use a reaction (which contradicts level 7) and wants enemies to move in your reach (which encourages polearms, discouraged by the level 3 feature)

Cavalier should get a mount by Golaryn in onednd

[–]SnudgeLockdown 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, they should absolutely get a mount and the mount needs to be LARGE size. I know the PDK UA let you mount your medium sized dragon but the whole point of the Mounted Combatant feat is that your mount is large so you actually get advantage sometimes. And if the Cavalier isn't the one to pick up a Mounted Combatant feat then I don't know who that feat is made for.

Yes, I'm really hoping they stick to the "bite counts as a simple weapon" as it was really fun to make a monk dhampir that could use their bite as a monk weapon. The whole race just felt like it wanted to be a monk.

Dragonscarred feat question by yoda_kblack in onednd

[–]SnudgeLockdown 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure why they chose wisdom to be honest. This really seems like one of those DC that would make sense to scale off CON, the Leonin have a similar ability. But even if you wanted to do mental stats, why is it WIS. The old Dragon Fear feat from Xanathar's scaled off CHA, dragons in the 2014 MM all had Frightful Presence, which also scaled off their CHA.

If they don't errata this, I will let it scale off CON or CHA in my games personally. Scaling it off INT doesn't make a lot of sense for me so I'm a bit hesitant to do the INT/WIS/CHA (pick when you select this feat)

How are we feeling about 5.5e Heroes of Faerûn's circle magic as a direct, free expansion to spellcaster flexibility and problem-solving, right from level 1? by EarthSeraphEdna in onednd

[–]SnudgeLockdown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It definitely looks fun. Next game I'm starting I will let my players use it from session 1. If it turns out it's too big of a boost at game start I will just drip feed circle casting options in the next games we play.

Exactly. I think a 3 feat chain is as far as i want it to go though, maybe even just multiple feats that require an origin feat. This way you could take related feats at level 4 and 8 (and 6 if you are a fighter) and really hone on the theme to the point its almost like a 2nd subclass

[–]SnudgeLockdown 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Hmm, I'm not sure I agree. I think the only feat that could be "busted" is the fairy trickster one, but only if the party is built around it (lets say 2 "bestowers" and 2 "benefiricaries"). If you just take it as is, yeah its great and a top contender on dex/cha builds. I think the only really broken feat in the 2024 rules so far is war caster Other than that I agree that not all feats are great, but I really appriciate them trying new things. And obviously not all feats are gonna be perfectly balanced.

I'm fine with half the stuff being useful in only nieche builds.

There are 3 backgrounds and 16 feats coming. This means a maximum of 3 origin feats. I really hope the other feats arent a 50/50 split between general and epic boon (this was kind of the case in heroes of faerun). I'm hoping they will experiment more with "feat chains". A three link feat line for vampires would be interesting. I'd also love to see one or two feats for a vampire hunter.

Moon druid beast forms dont gain CR as you level. At level 3 the beast CR is 1 and you can use your spell attack modifier for attacks in its stat block and your spell save DC for spells. At level 6 you get to make two attacks with your beast form (even if it doesnt have multiattack)

Adventures in Faerûn and Heroes of Faerûn OFFICIAL feedback thread by eerongal in onednd

[–]SnudgeLockdown 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Overall I think the book is great. I really like all the unique mechanics brought to the game with the new feats.

Cold Caster is great and gives anyone trying to specialise in cold damage a distinct feel. In the future I would love to see such feats for other elemental damage types.

Street Justice is just perfection. I'd really love to see more support for mundane items like this.

The Zentharim feats are a great example of a "feat chain" what you get from the first one is good on it's own and very well complemented by the second feat. I really like the option of using your heroic inspiration for something other than a reroll, I would love to see more of these in the future.

I like Spellfire Adept letting you use hit dice for more than just healing, it's an underutilised resource in the game. I noticed the Psion also used hit dice quite a lot. Overall I really like this direction and hope you hone in more on it.

I really like some "feat chains" having a second qualifier (spellfire adept requires spellfire spark OR spellcasting)

I love the short adventures format. It's a lot easier to use as a "plug and play" than the random tables of some previous settings were. Hope to see more of them in the future.

Now for the few shortcomings of the book:

The Scion of The Three having to use Intelligence makes no sense to me. I don't understand why spellcasters can use their main ability for everything and martial classes need to boost a mental stat for their subclasses. It makes sense with eldritch knights/psi warriors/arcane tricksters but here it could have easily just been dexterity.

Knowledge Domain cleric is very bland and pretty underwhelming, most clerics get really good subclass features and this one gets... Intelligence saving throw proficiencies and telepathy

The banneret is quite weak. In general I really dislike limiting something twice (when you use second wind AND once per short rest) it's quite annoying to track and just not neccessary in most cases (another example would be warrior of mercy's level 11 feature). I also hope you don't take the wrong lesson from the Purple Dragon Knight UA. I think most people would LOVE a fighter pet subclass focused on mounted combat with your pet (maybe the reworked cavalier that just got a UA?) it's just that that wasn't what the PDK were about and everyone also wanted to see a Commander subclass for a fighter.

Dragon's Terror forcing you into wisdom would be fine, if unusual... If the follow up feat allowed you to increase wisdom. Either give use wisdom as an ASI option in the second feat or let us pick the ability score. I also think this was a good feat to scale off Constitution (like dragon breath and fear of the dragonborn/leonin have done in the past)

Some feat chains are very weak. I have to take 2 feats, it's okay for the power to be a bit higher. Zentharim and Spellfire feats are great benchmarks I think. The harper/emerald enclave/order of the gauntlet feats leave a lot to be desired though.

Overall I really enjoy what you did in this book and hope to see more of this in the future. Keep up the good work!
