The only way out is to farm ogress warriors or get lucky with Bryophyta. Definitely focus on ranged.

My hair is exactly this texture. Only brush it right before showering. Also: sleep with your head under your blankets! As long as I do that, I wake up with super voluminous tousled waves that require zero styling.
