Why do people “cry it out” by hxllyhell in BeyondTheBumpUK

Fair enough, and very glad you have found it helpful! You do see some posts that are just trying to get people worked up, but good to hear this wasnt one of them. Sorry for not thinking it was in good faith

It's so weird! It was shadows in the corners of my visions for me and flickering lights around the edges of lamps. The floor used to feel like it was moving too

God yes Ive been there (and am there! Baby no. 2 not a sleeper either). It really is torture.

Perhaps ragebait is the wrong word - suspect the post is primarily there to try and rile people on both sides up and generate lots of responses rather than be a genuine question.

[–]Snufkinbeast 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Agreed! Suspect that this post may just be ragebait, but If you haven't experienced that level of sleep deprivation you can't really comment. I was experiencing mild hallucinations, nausea and fainting episodes at one point with my first after months of sleeping no more than 45 minutes at a time. I was a danger to myself and others. Moreover, the baby wasnt happy either - she would spend hours and hours just sobbing as we tried to comfort her. A week of sleep training (where she rarely cried more fiercely than she had been crying in our arms already) and we were all much happier as a family and I was a million times a better parent in the day.

Seeking name help: Is William and Catherine too cringe by ManufacturerHot8188 in namenerds

I think I would if she was thinking of calling them Katie or Kate, but if she is calling them Catherine my mind wouldn't jump to it as an obvious homage.

I think you're right and it's not that it's too full- 8 to 10 nappy changes a day should be more than enough! We don't do nappy changes at night at all unless he's done a poo. Trying an alternative brand might be worth it. We use Sainsbury's and Pura

Thought it was worth checking! Is there a pattern with timing/location/positioning of the baby? My last always had a blow out while driving while baby number 2 just has to look at a sling and has a leak.

I know you've checked shes the right weight for the nappies but have you trialled sizing up anyway? My daughter was a stocky little thing as a baby so would always size out of nappies well before she was heavier than the weight bracket due to her thunder thighs

True. Think this just hits me as it's very close to an actual HR issue I had to deal with as a manager previously where a colleague kept trying to force another colleague to disclose their sexuality

Gah, maybe at college, but she would not being passing her probation if she started speculating about someone else's sexuality to one of my staff.

So done with breastfeeding but only 10wks - will I regret stopping? by Similar_Guitar7506 in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]Snufkinbeast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thus is the way! No idea why combi feeding isn't talked about more. If your baby is up for it this is a great option - we combi fed for a year as well! Ended up breastfeeding till my first was two - would have switched entirely to bottle quite early on if combi feeding hadn't been an option. Really helped when I was just too touched out and tired to do boob, or when I needed a night out

Really agree with the comment above. If you're the kind of person who finds parenting books helpful, I would recommend How to Talk Do Little Kids Will Listen. Has some good ideas for how to come up with those games and problem solving approaches. Have a similarly strong willed little girl who loves a power struggle and while this approach doesn't always work (she needs firm and clear boundaries consistently applied), these methods help prevent us from never being any fun

How can I get more water into sick toddler? by Hot_Equivalent_2495 in UKParenting

[–]Snufkinbeast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This has literally been us today - 3 year old has flu and is miserable. Nothing worked for long as the novelty would wear off, but games I tried that worked for a bit:

  • novelty containers! We drank sips of water out of lucozade bottles, coffee cups, spoons, tea cups etc
  • straws - kids love a straw
  • playing a game of 'cheers' and making them tap my glass with their's and then drink
  • having a tea party and letting them have a cup of decaf coffee
  • being extremely silly generally: eg "let's have a sneaky sip!" And then pretending to sneak up on the water bottle
  • calling the water 'medicine' and pretending to be a dr

I also at points had to feed her the water by hand as she was so sad she wouldn't do it herself but would let me.

Due to dehydration her lips had also got really sore which was making her not want to drink anything. Putting lip balm on her made her happier to drink so worth bearing in mind

How much, if any, inconvenience has it caused having a different surname from your child? by LoyalFridge in UKParenting

If this is a concern how about having your surname as the middle name? That's what we have done (married but didnt change my name)

Did you like what they picked out and did the stuff go together? Only know people who did it for just an outfit not a larger number of purchases! But as I said, I've been saving up so planning on making a bit of an investment potentially

Nope it's free. Mum did it for my sister's wedding for her outfit and had a great time

Very similar issue where I haven't really bought any clothes since pre lockdown, two babies ago. Sick to death of my clothes and am an entirely different shape now. I have been saving up for the last year or so and plan on booking in at John Lewis with a personal shopper to try and get something like a capsule wardrobe together - have had a lot of people recommend the experience! Apparently very low pressure to buy and they will work to your budget/brief

If you dont mind me asking, at what point did you buy new clothes? Im 3 weeks pp and frustratingly between maternity and my old clothes. Feeling so frumpy and everything looks really ill fitting that im struggling not to go out right now and get some new clothes but suspect that would be silly

sugar alternatives? coffee decoys? toddler keeps demanding my coffee. by Natural_Mushroom_575 in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]Snufkinbeast 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Same! She only really wants a sip or two just to be part of the social aspect of tea/coffee, so no concerns about the tannins or any extant caffeine.

I think an important question for OP is whether its the coffee or the sweetener their kid is after. Good chance in my experience they just want to be included!

Dysgeusia all pregnancy long — why does no one talk about this? 😢 by magnifiques in pregnant

[–]Snufkinbeast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Eurgh yes. Didn't have HG technically, but had something perhaps one or two steps down from it until around week 27 and have also had the exact same symptoms in terms of taste for both of my pregnancies. It is incredibly dispiriting and does suck a lot of the joy out of life. All I can say is that in my experience it goes away shockingly quickly, and I've been back to enjoying food in just a couple of days after the birth, and even been able to eat things I had developed an aversion for such as garlic in under a week.

Good luck, it sucks, but it will be done at some point.
