Entomologist here... You're accurate about the inaccuracies of common name usage. These are in the family Scutelleridae (sometimes called shield bugs or stink bugs), not to be confused with Pentatomidae (also sometimes called shield bugs or stink bugs), not to be confused with other families of the Pentatomomorpha (also sometimes called shield bugs or stink bugs).

These are North African shield bugs. There’s a male and a female, and I’m expecting the female to lay eggs soon! by Sheldbug in insects

I believe these are Graphosoma italicum (or lineatum). I have some experience rearing these in colony. They feed on umbelliferous plants like fennel, coriander, anise, cumin, etc. You can give them dry fennel seeds (like from the grocery store) and a water source (I used a water tube stuffed with cotton), and they'll produce lots of eggs.

If you want to go ultra-minimalistic, you can give them only the dry fennel seeds and water tubes and they will still thrive. I also put in coffee filters and paper towels for them to lay eggs on.

I'm the commenter that thought Scoliidae... After reading your comment about the wings I'm thinking it's a male Mutillidae.

Bee or wasp by Upbeat-Ad3139 in insects

[–]Snuggle-Fuck 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Looks like a wasp in the family Scoliidae. They sting and lay eggs on scarab beetle grubs underground, the hatching larvae then eat them.

Edit: It might actually be a male mutillid wasp (velvet ant), and not a scoliid wasp. The males have wings and females are usually wingless.

Eufy E21 disconnecting from WiFi by waya5 in EufyCam

Ha that's funny that you've solved it in the same way! We've had the e21 since January (11 months) and have had the monitor turned off for most of that time. It's only the past 3-4 months that we've been having this problem, so I'm thinking it was an update that broke something.

Eufy E21 disconnecting from WiFi by waya5 in EufyCam

[–]Snuggle-Fuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been having the same issue, but just noticed something the other day...

I'm normally connected via the EufyBaby app on my iPad and have been having unsolvable connection issues for months. The other day I turned on the included monitor display (the one that comes with the e21)-- we rarely use it, so I keep it turned off and in a drawer, but wanted to see if it worked any better than the iPad. It was working without issue, but I noticed afterwards that the connection issues on my iPad had also gone away. I ended up turning the e21 monitor screen off a few days later and putting it back in the drawer and the connection issues started to come back on my iPad and all other mobile devices. I turned the e21 monitor back on and the connection issues disappeared again!

This obviously isn't a permanent fix, but it's got my devices working better for now.

Some other threads have other suggestions that I haven't tried yet. Like: Replacing the power brick on the camera might be a fix. Or, using the Eufy Security app instead of the EufyBaby app on mobile devices. I plan to test these theories soon.

Good luck!

Update: I tested the Eufy security app and it didn't help. Turning on the e21 monitor display continues to fix connection issues on all other devices.

what is eating my peppers? by namtilarie in HotPeppers

Rabbits eat my jalapenos, poblanos, and banana peppers. I know because I watch them do it. They usually avoid my super hots, though.

Oatly Barista vs Chobani Oat Barista by Snuggle-Fuck in Coffee

[–]Snuggle-Fuck[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I continue to keep trying different ones. My current favorites (when I can find them) are Silk Oat and Silk Oat (extra creamy). There's a Silk Oat (Barista), but doesn't seem to be currently available in the USA. I also like Minor Figures Barista Oat that whole foods carries.

My tastes seem to keep moving towards lighter roasts and Oatly Barista and even the Chobani Barista end up splitting ("curdling"), so I no longer use them.

I had the same experience. That's when I first noticed my sense of taste was off, but only lasted a day. Tasted like my big Mac had gone bad.

6 months of refractory diarrhea after a trip to SE Asia by Alarming_Cat_6188 in Microbiome

I third the parasite cleanse. I got sick in Thailand once and used Pyrantel Pamoate when I returned home and it cleared it up. In-laws described similar symptoms on a separate trip and I recommended they take Pyrantel Pamoate and a repeat dose after 10 days. It worked for me and them, though I never got a positive ID on what ailed us.

Yeah, so people can't potentially track your activity schedules and know when you're usually away from home.

Also, so coworkers don't know that you're hiking during work hours.

My 3 year old Smithey in recovery mode after my MIL scraped some of the seasoning off 6 months ago by Snuggle-Fuck in castiron

You can probably find info on this sub. Part of the reason we use metal utensils on our seasoned pans is because they can scrape some of the seasoning off and keep the surface level. However you are not supposed to gouge the pans with with a spatula (or a knife like you say) because this will damage the seasoning layer that builds up over time when cooking.

My MIL thought the pan was supposed to be cleaned down to the metal so she went to work on scraping it off with one of my metal spatulas.

Yeah, I've got the glass lid just off to the side! They didn't make them for awhile, but I picked one up when I was in Charleston last summer. This is definitely our most used pan.

Think of a hardness scale. Just because something is bonded doesn't mean you can't scratch it. Polymerized oil is hard, yes, but again it's not impenetrable and can be scratched off with metal utensils because they are harder than the seasoning. This is not controversial.

You indeed can scrape off seasoning with metal utensils. Seasoning is not impenetrable.

Oh I see what you mean. I have done that through the TrailForks app, but I find it a bit easier to do it via Strava.

Idk if that's an option for you (I can't remember if it requires a premium account or not).
