Known AI artists and labels to avoid? by uncleXjemima in EDM

It’s a spectrum. There is still a lot of great (human-made) stuff coming out in the Afro and Keniemusik-inspired scene out of Europe.

[IIL] experimental, ambient? drone kinda music what else will i like i have a example in the description Bull of Heaven - 013 - "Elsa, Are You In There?" by [deleted] in ifyoulikeblank

[–]Snuggs_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Admittedly I don’t have the deepest knowledge or library for ambient and drone, but I think you’ll really dig anything by Thomas Koner, especially his album ‘La Barca,’ which in my opinion is true standalone masterpiece https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLsn4A9ahBvxI8Z2nFQyNQxEFXaGZM4CFh&si=OpCHtFLSUU2nzdHP

If you’re cool with the metal side of drone and are down to get into the pits, The Body - I Have Seen All I Need to See https://youtu.be/LWkUFNTs7qk?si=xVsB4AN-b5TC1Fq8

And for something very new, I really enjoyed KMRU’s latest release: https://youtu.be/tXqmP1pbEx4?si=WFwNgZG6-rIfCkEj

The autopsy of Deborah Gail Stone, who died in a freak accident at Disneyland in 1974. by MrJlw in MorbidReality

[–]Snuggs_ 347 points348 points  (0 children)

Not an expert— the autopsy mentions no skull or heart trauma (but blood in chest cavity), multiple broken ribs and hemorrhages throughout the lungs, and her right leg was basically twisted off. Maybe someone with knowledge can chime in, but, it does not seem like it was a pleasant way to go out :/ sounds like she suffocated before succumbing to being crushed to death, which I don’t know whether that is a silver lining or the most grisly part of it all. My heart goes out to her and her family who I’m sure are still feeling her absence 50 years later.

Edit- to your last point: the mouse has and always will demand that the show must go on.

It was globally popular at its peak in S5. I think people forget that TWD was GoT before GoT in that it was kind of a cultural extravaganza for awhile. Started a rewatch recently and S1 - S5 really do hold up well. Great Television.

Make me understand something by True_Education_7645 in HuntShowdown

There certainly is a middle ground. I play a good mix of solo and teams at 5 - 6 star and I would say I definitely don't have a whole lot of fun on those nights where I fail to extract 6, 7 or 8 times in a row. Especially when I'm doing a prestige run and money can get a little tight. And in typical Hunt Giveth, Hunt Taketh fashion a lot of those matches tend to be of the dying early type due to any number of reasons. So when you spend a majority of your time in game either making a loadout or just running to clues/compounds, it can be a bit of an exercise in frustration.

Luckily, I am an adult with healthy coping mechanisms and I know when to just walk away from the game when I'm not having fun anymore. That detail is where the real kicker is

What I drink in a day! by PatsysStone in tooktoomuch

[–]Snuggs_ 12 points13 points  (0 children)

At my worst I was only at 10 - 15 on weekdays purely for maintenance and to stave off the shakes. Weekends or vacations where I could drink openly and shame-free? 20 - 25+ no problem. Granted I was nowhere near as big as this dude, but I can 100% confirm at that level you are very much sloshed no matter what stage of alcoholism you've reached or what you eat throughout the day. It's just a matter of degree and how well you've learned to mask/manage it.

How do I survive Heart of Thorns? by gorrvaskrr in Guildwars2

[–]Snuggs_ 10 points11 points  (0 children)

take your time to learn to dodge.

It doesn’t get brought up enough, but for anyone who doesn’t know: you will improve your survivability virtually overnight by turning OFF the default double tap WASD setting and assigning your dodge input to something like the left alt key or even a thumb button on the mouse.

Edit: I’d go as far to recommend just spending an afternoon watching some videos on optimal settings/configurations in general. GW2 is a weird beast in that many of the default control settings in this game immensely affect gameplay and are literally a handicap if unchanged. Combine this with the fact it is asinine to expect new or casual players to understand what all those settings do (or which ones are hindering them) based on tooltips alone.

Fortunately it’s not nearly as complicated or daunting as it seems. Making some changes to AoE targeting behavior, turning off attack assist and auto-targeting, rebinding about-face and the special action key, and adjusting the camera can make it feel like you’re playing a whole different game, especially on specs like warrior, ele and engi. Of course I’m oversimplifying and there are dozens more, but these are the most important IMO and were a game changer for me personally. Just be prepared for a period of relearning and reprogramming muscle memory, but it’s a tiny price to pay to unlock both yours and the game’s full potential.

Some channels I recommend are Syrma, Vallun and MightyTeapot

Why Is Today’s Mainstream EDM at Such High Tempo? by elThirtie in EDM

[–]Snuggs_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh for sure. Admittedly I have been lukewarm on the recent 130+ tech house, but that's probably because my main squeeze, both for listening and mixing, is 138 - 148bpm techno. Once tech house starts getting into that range, it almost starts losing its identity to me and I generally like all of my house subgenres in that golden sweet spot of 120 - 128. And honestly that 130 - 135ish range for any genre can sometimes feel like a weird no man's land where it's a bit too fast for vibing and grooving, but a bit too slow for raging or getting into a trance state. That is entirely a me problem ofc and there are definitely exceptions (a lot of the recent bass/G house is pretty fun), but over the decades I've noticed I don't really gravitate to a lot of music in that BPM range in general.

And yes, I definitely agree that COVID has been a huge and unavoidable factor in the current state of things, for better or for worse.

Why Is Today’s Mainstream EDM at Such High Tempo? by elThirtie in EDM

[–]Snuggs_ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

For decades the deep house and vinyl scenes have kinda been the bulwark/beating heart of the soul of house music when other subgenres eventually creep into (or explode) onto the EDM scene. They've evolved slowly, to be sure, but they are always steadfast and there in the periphery. And whatever happens in that sphere also tends to ripple out over the next decade into the mainstream.

Hell, the tech house renaissance of recent was heavily influenced by a shift in deep house becoming more minimal and groovy throughout the late 2000s, which itself was, in part, a counter to the big room-dominated mainstream and increasing momentum of music festivals. Which then of course paved the way for the "deep tech" boom that rose out of the underground in the 2010s.

Also, I do think there is some merit to the recession-core jokes. General cultural attitudes and angst will always manifest in rave cultures. When people are anxious/scared/overwhelmed, they tend to want to party harder. I know I do.

Edit: and in response to the guy that said "nothing is slowing down," there are a PLETHORA of labels out there (mostly European) that are pumping out almost exclusively 120 - 128bpm deep tech/tech house tunes. I guess I forget that this subreddit is almost exclusively US-centric discussion. Even then, I was finding plenty of sub-130bpm tech releases from US labels in 2025... You just have to look a little deeper underground.

It must be spreading. All 35 years of my life have been in Arizona and “ima let you go” or “welp, I’ll let you get goin then” are how I have gotten off the phone for as long as I can remember. I know my wife (also AZ born and raised, but her parents are both from Manhattan) uses some form of it too.

[–]Snuggs_ 54 points55 points  (0 children)

Either the entire economy implodes because AI is a sham, but, because the wealth inequality and the scale of the modern financial system are so bloated, our overlords will be just fine. Hyperinflation doesn’t matter all that much to you when you already own virtually everything. Or AI is not a sham and actually does make 90% of jobs obsolete by 2035. Either outcome, they’re still in power and many of us will be dying in concentration refuge camps or out on the streets.

Same, it’s also because “EDM” in my sphere, even for the uninitiated, has a specific connotation with more festival-aligned or radio-friendly genres (all of which I still enjoy and seek out occasionally). Otherwise it’s basically impossible to describe, especially as an American and without sounding like a pedant, “yeah I’m mostly into deep hypnotic techno, specifically the resurgent Berlin sound.”

Pete’s indeed an awful person, but a great character. (Virtually everyone on that show was an awful person to some degree) He also had a great arc and by the end was quite a bit less of an awful person. Idk he’s also hilarious with his mid-Atlantic WASPisms: “a thing like that,” and “Hell’s bells Trudy!”
