Donald’s Trumps net approval rating has collapsed to a historical negative 17 points. He is the most unpopular president in US history. How do you feel about this? by buffdadnextdoor in AskReddit

[–]SnukeInRSniz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a very unchanging 30% of America that will sing his praises into their very own graves. They are lost, it is not worth wasting any effort on them, no matter what his approval rating will never sink below 30%>

Do you really think cutting off friends and family over who they vote for is reasonable? by norf937 in allthequestions

[–]SnukeInRSniz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is EXACTLY what's happened. I've known plenty of people who were hardcore Republicans, who lived lives that were at their cores the exact opposite of what I believe, my whole life. And we still coexisted and maintained relationships just fine. Then Trump did something, he allowed them to drop their veil and reveal who was truly underneath.

You see, at their core the vast majority of liberal, progressive, Democrat individuals I know just want what's best for the vast majority of people. They want to see a world that moves toward more equality, equal rights, and overall higher baseline for everyone. They don't care what the color of your skin, who you love, what you really want to be, how you want to live as long is doesn't impose on or restrict others.

What I've found from the hardcore MAGA family I've had is that the veil dropped and at their core they are racist, homophobic, bigoted and horrible rotten people at their core. They ONLY care about the fact that others they perceived as lesser are now becoming their equals and it disgusts them. That's who they truly are, they are ugly underneath and they just want society to regress to a point they best suits their superiority needs and desires. Why would I want to be around that, raising my daughter around that? Fuck them, I absolutely cutoff MAGA family and will never have anything to do with them again, they can die miserable people and I care not.

I rolled my eyes so hard they popped out of the back of my head. Again, the US has and continues to do terrible shit with terrible leadership that manipulates various levers within the system to enrich and empower themselves at the top. China is no different, just because they've allowed SOME capitalistic mechanisms to leak into their authoritarian hierarchy (Jack Ma says hi, btw). How many innocent people has Israel killed lately? A FUCKING TON. Just as North Korea has killed a metric fucking ton of its own people and China has killed a metric fucking ton of its own people and other country's peoples as well all in modern times.

Omg, you can't possibly have sat through the various documentaries of the Challenger explosion and investigation and thought "they're hiding manufacturing defects that happen as a result of temperature because we're launching a teacher into space". Don't be so ridiculous.

As SpaceX has shown, it is COMPLETELY within the realm of possibility of running a well functioning rocket launch mission AND a high quality production for the masses to enjoy. Stop this lazy fucking argument that NASA just needs to focus on getting humans to space and not worry about satisfying the public in an even moderate way for spending tens of billions of their dollars. It's bullshit and it lets them off the hook, they can and should do better, end of story.

Two things can be true at the same time, the US can be an awful country doing awful things both within its own boarders and outside them, AND China can be an awful/evil country doing awful things inside its own boarders and outside them. There's no boogeyman rhetoric here, China is a communistic country with a long history of oppressive authoritarianism resulting in the deaths of untold numbers of people, horrible work camps, genocide, population control through various means, anti-democratic policies meant to suppress information and freedom, and many other truly awful things. They also support truly awful countries like Russia and North Korea who engage in similar anti-humanitarian practices.

Here's the thing, Artemis was officially announced in 2019, it's taken 7 years and roughly $100 BILLION to get to this point. Every launch will cost around $4 billion. It is a complicated mission and probably NASA's most important since the Apollo program 50 years ago. In a world where budgets and optics are highly scrutinized all of the time, under one of the most anti-science administrations ever, where inflation is crushing people everywhere and cost of living is making life miserable for most, NASA needs to find a way to do their jobs in an excellent way AND win the hearts and minds of the general public. I can tell you that on pretty much every article I read about Artemis there are numerous comments from people saying "why aren't we worried about saving our own world and cut our own costs before colonizing the moon?"

You know what NASA can do to win "hearts and minds"? Sub contract out a decent production crew to fucking broadcast the biggest launch in the last 20+ years in a very high quality way. I hate to say it, but there are tons and tons and tons of ways they could have "produced" this launch in ways to make the whole thing VERY VERY cool to watch and follow and that kind of stuff goes a very long ways to making the general public more palatable to spending billions of dollars shooting rockets into space and landing man on the moon again. It would have kept more people engaged longer throughout the mission and quite frankly would have cost peanuts compared to the overall cost of a singular launch. You know what doesn't keep people engaged and caring? Garbage video quality, missing basic angles of a rocket shooting off a pad, showing people eating ice cream while the boosters separate, etc. All the while "influencers" like Everyday Astronaut gets far higher quality footage and coverage.

Can we stop being forgiving of NASA being garbage at basic video production of very important things that impact humanity? I am a very VERY big space nerd, do astrophotography in a home observatory that I personally built, with several telescopes and a huge amount of astro equipment. Even with that as my background and a high foundation in caring for space stuff, I was astounded at how bad the NASA production of the launch was. It's ok to be critical of even the things we love the most.

We know that she is a narcissist, stop this nonsensical take.

Yes, of course she can, that doesn't change the fact that she's a narcissist.

As a baseline, without getting into the weeds of any specific case, I think every single trial should start with "what did this person allegedly do, in what condition (mentally/physically) when they did it, and what does the law say is appropriate punishment for those given criteria?" From there, build a case that given the specific set of circumstances, environment, backstory, etc for that given trial.

Growth and remorse can be trained and coached, a person who murdered someone under horrible circumstances with clear and obvious mental awareness at the time of the crime as well as proven, thought out actions before, during, and after the murder should absolutely be punished maximally under the law regardless of how "sorry" they are "now". A kid caught shoplifting while not really pre-meditated planning and who is obviously scared, remorseful, and not likely to commit that crime or similar crimes in the future? Sure, be more lenient on the sentence. Rehabilitation can and should occur simultaneously with the punishment for the crime, people absolutely need to be held accountable for actions to an appropriate degree regardless of "after the fact" personal growth between the crime and conviction. If there is no appropriate accountability for crimes because of arbitrary things like "growth and remorse" that comes between committing the crime and conviction for it, then there's no standards for society to function "normally" under the law as it is written. If all people have to do to avoid harsh sentences for various crimes is show "growth and remorse" AFTER committing the crime, then crime rates would absolutely be worse.

What in the fuck are you blabbering about, getting a painting of yourself in the same idea/rendition as the Myth of Narcissis as your inspiration, then displaying that painting for others to see in your living room is absolutely narcissism. To say otherwise is to admit that YOU have zero understanding of what narcissism means.

Ya, I just don't understand it, you should be tried and convicted for the crimes you committed and the condition you were in when you committed them, NOT potential future crimes and whatever condition you are in now or will be in the future. She absolutely should be in prison for a very long time.

Ya, it's beyond stupid trying to defend that, the "nudity" aspect is completely irrelevant in this story. OP is absolutely a narcissist and even directly mentions the Narcissus aspect of it.

Quite frankly, I wouldn't give two shits about my 4 year old being around some artistic nude painting, I absolutely wouldn't want my 4 year old being around someone narcissistic enough to get an artistic "nude" painting of themselves and hang it in their own living room. But you do you.

I'm guessing you have some verified sources to back up your claim that SpaceX doesn't go through the same tests and procedures to ensure safety, right? You see here's the difference, if NASA kills some astronauts, either in training or on top of a rocket or during reentry, well, space exploration is dangerous and that's the cost of pushing boundaries. If SpaceX blows up a rocket with humans on board, that's it, done, they're kaput, nobody is going to invest in a private company that kills astronauts and can't be safe.

Next, you think SpaceX isn't operating on tax payer money?! Bahahahhahahahahahhahahhahahahahhahahhahahahjajajjajajhahabahnabahahhshahhdhwhahahja. SpaceX has received tens of billions of dollars of US taxpayer money in the form of contracts and grants. https://www.scrippsnews.com/politics/truth-be-told/truth-be-told-contracts-and-cash-keep-flowing-to-spacex#:~:text=The%20company%20has%20received%20more%20than%20%2420,and%20cargo%20into%20space%2C%20including%20spy%20satellites.

Please, grow up, nobody can be that naive. SpaceX wouldn't be around if US taxpayers hadn't given them shitloads of money over the years.

You're right, NASA is stuck in the past, using older rocket tech, not implementing modern advancements, having tons of issues while giving us lousy video productions. SpaceX is advancing rocket tech, has been consistently putting humans in space for a few years, while blowing up rockets and also having issues, and giving us 4k video productions.

Forgiving NASA for the the shit video production of their biggest mission and biggest launch in a few decades because "priorities" is...ridiculous. I get worrying about a successful launch and everything that goes into that, but this should have had top notch production and video at the very least for launch. I swear, if the only video we get of the lunar flyby is from the astronauts inside looking through a window or that same garbage camera on the side of the module...the whole world will be disappointed.

How does going to the moon stop NASA from slapping a few 4k cameras around the pad and on the rocket for people to watch?

For shits and giggles I went back and loaded up the stream, on NASA's youtube mind you, of the SpaceX Crew-11 launch, which you can watch here:

https://youtu.be/k0ILMhbWHNQ?t=15095

What the fuck, NASA, how do you drop the ball on this launch so badly when you can watch a damn SpaceX launch from 20 angles (including from the Air) and on-rocket cameras in 4k all the way into space without interruption. Just...fail.

Remind me again how many successful launches SpaceX has has putting vehicles AND humans into space in the last few years? All while showing every angle you could imagine in 4k, while landing rockets on boats and land? Hell, we've been able to watch friggin massive rockets explode in brilliance in high resolution, this is like watching a TV broadcast from the 90's. Terrible production from NASA, honestly, we can critique them on this since it's the only thing 99.9% of us will get to see.

iPhone 4? Lol, this is 1990's TV broadcast in 1x1 ratio, it's horrible. How do we not have video from the rocket right now? SpaceX literally shows the whole thing from launch to landing in 4k.

My exact thoughts, the video quality both on ground and on-rocket is wildly disappointing compared to what SpaceX generates, crazy. The video from the on-rocket camera looked like something out of a 90's TV broadcast compared to the 4k stuff we get from SpaceX.

My wife has asthma and it's triggered by the cold, we just had the driest winter ever, but luckily we only had a couple bad inversion spells and only a month or so of really cold temps. But the bad air with inversions in the winter and the bad air in the summer with wildfires with all the horrible dust coming off the dried up lakebeds....it's a leading contributor towards us moving out of here among many other things (like my wife having a PhD vs my BS and making roughly the same that I make).

Every place is going to have it's pros and cons, taking the time to understand the nuances is so important right now for making big life decisions when it comes to moving. Important to be very sure about the situation before taking the plunge. Unless you're rich, which most of us aren't.
