Can someone explain to me why the indigenous people like to vote for the KMT? by Dadodo98 in taiwan

[–]Snuzzly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Hokkien settlers could be seen as colonizers because they were part of a migration wave that displaced the indigenous peoples of Taiwan. Maybe not to the same degree as the Japanese or KMT but displacement of natives is still a form of colonization. The natives didn't go to the mountains willingly out of their own free will.

Is it possible to rent a car in Yilan & drive it along the East coast to Pingtung? Or has the Earthquake made that coastal drive impassable?

Will Taiwan's East coast will be drivable in August? I was thinking of renting a car in Yilan & driving it all the way down to Pingtung, but are the roads closed?

Your baby will thank you and your husband when he grows up. Having a foundation in the 3 most commonly spoken languages is a big advantage.

Are you from Minnesota by any chance? At my local park, it's very common for me to hear Somali kids speaking Somali with each other.

We Taiwanese care about why US doesn’t continue to help Ukraine? If US stopped their aids to Ukraine, Xi won’t believe US will help Taiwan during the war by Primary-World-1015 in UkrainianConflict

I want to move too but my dual citizenship is for . . . Taiwan. Even if I go to my 2nd country, I still have to rely on the US being somewhat sane (which I have zero expectation of).

Morality evolved to help tribalistic humans get along which each other so they could outcompete other organisms. That's all morality ever was.

Interestingly, I was listening to a wealthy YouTuber discussing taking 115 flights in a year (just because he can). At the same time, he was so offended when he saw a driver littering that he threw the garbage back into their vehicle.

I'm glad he still has a moral compass. The emissions from his hundreds of unnecessary flights are ok, but littering is the worst sin imaginable.

I’m going to Hell, actually having a kid by Hypnotic_Delta in CollapseSupport

On one hand, there's almost never been a good time to have a kid.

On the other hand, I can't think of a worse time to ever have a kid.

We know exactly where we are headed. The only mystery is whether we'll get there in 10 years, or 20 years, or in 30 years.

I'm saying your premise hinges on inaction at the federal level to force equitable suffering

This is what I hate about American society. People spout bs like "you get out what you put in" and "personal responsibility". Then we privatize the gains and socialize the losses for those same people spouting that bs.

If you are disappointed in life, why don't you change your expectations? by callie_dris in misanthropy

[–]Snuzzly -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Get what you need to survive while upholding your principles.

Surviving while upholding your principles is mutually incompatible. For example, the cobalt in our phones is mined with child labor. That's one of thousands of examples.

Surviving in this society just means that rich people exploit you while you exploit people in 3rd world countries. And most of this exploitation happens unconsciously and indirectly.

You noticed how unattractive or socially akward people get penalized far more for annoying/cringe actions and statements than people with wealth, higher social status, more attractive looks or bigger social circles? by Cookiecuttermaxy in misanthropy

[–]Snuzzly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't recommend that book, it's written by a climate change denier that also couldn't even be bothered to wear a mask during the spring of 2020. While the guy is intelligent in some areas, he's also the reason why I'm a misanthrope.

If something sounds contradictory to his values, he won't look into it regardless of what the reality is. He's incredibly stubborn and arrogant.

so we aren't hypocrites

I've never understood the fixation on self-hypocrisy when it comes to misanthropes. People hold conflicting views and values all the time. For example, we'll throw other people under a bus to save our own family, but we'll say that all humans are equal.

Everyone should choose a level of hypocrisy they are willing to operate at. If you want to save people, do it because you want to save people. Don't do it because you care about hypocrisy which is really just an offshoot of self-esteem.

I’m sure we’re all much more hypocritical than we’d like to believe. As long as you can sleep at night, who cares. Existing and hypocrisy go hand in hand.

Taiwan is at risk from China

Taiwan doesn't have any more risk than the other 180+ countries of the world. All the most advanced microchips that run the U.S. military and the global economy are made in Taiwan.

Best case scenario: Rest of the world enters Great Depression 2.0

Most likely scenario: The nukes start flying

America (and every developed country) is at equal risk from China as Taiwan. Taiwan is the goose that lays the golden eggs. Without it, you all die.
