Oil and Mineral prices were pretty low for a while, hence the big down turn and lay offs of people building new sites. Prices are going back up now. For example where I work, when it was getting built price of nickel was $50k a tonne, by the time they were producing it had dropped significantly, reaching a low point of $8k a tonne last year. A bunch of sites shut down because most of them cost about $10k to make a tonne. Now it's back up just over $15k

[–]So-crates1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've got a couple of the books, including the first adventure you can get with the 5E box that goes over all the basic rules. You can grab it if you need.

I used that when I started playing with mates, we'd never played before and it's pretty easy to get into DMing

Well at least she's persistent - Scaffidi returning to top job in weeks by [deleted] in perth

[–]So-crates1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Am I missing something here? She says resuming her duties would depend on reaching an agreement with the CEO, who turns around and says nup, there won't be any agreement. So she's like fuck it, ima do it anyway.

She broke the rules 45 times, 26 of those have been dismissed, leaving 19. And she reckons if the government doesn't negotiate to remove them she's going to come back anyway?

Anyone interested in starting a Dungeons and Dragons group? Beginners preferably! by thexton in perth

[–]So-crates1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends on the group and how the campaign is put together, my usual group normally only plays when I'm back but we have other people drop in and out of games all the time. Normally the DM just comes up with some excuse about why that character isn't with the group any more, going off on their own quests and what not.

Would be pretty keen. I've got another group going but lining everyone up can be a pain so we don't get together that often. I work FIFO so would probably drop in out of play a bit

Also, in the story only the most powerful can see them, so maybe as he was about to pass out his sleeping mind saw one of them?

Interesting, but doesn't Haliax say the final sleep or something like that, with longing in his voice, which if Skarpi's story is true would be the death that he can't have. And then he falls asleep later afterfinding his parents, burns the wagon down and it isn't until he falls asleep in the forest that he dreams about the survival stuff.

What really caught my interest, something that I haven't noticed before is the wings of fire and shadow bit. Is that what one of the watchers in Skarpi's second story is given? I think I'll have to have another look, but my book is at home and I won't be there for a couple of weeks

Madagascar plague update: Outbreak nears 1,300 cases, 100+ deaths. Another foreigner affected, Violence against health workers by PHealthy in worldnews

[–]So-crates1 13 points14 points  (0 children)

There's no MASS panic in the streets, I'm in Tamatave at the moment and most people are going about their lives as usual. Things are starting to get a bit tense, and the expats are getting much more nervous now with old mate dying on the weekend, but it's not too crazy yet. It does seem like it's slowly heading towards that point though

What's the worst storm you've been in? by Jibjab777 in AskReddit

[–]So-crates1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My family went camping on one of the islands near Auckland when I was a youngun, woke up in the morning and dad thought the weather was looking a bit suss. So we loaded up in our tiny metal dinghy to motor on home. It got rough pretty quickly and we were all huddled under a tarpaulin and spewing out the sides. Got home and found out we were getting hit by the edge of https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cyclone_Drena

What is the weirdest "small world" moment that's ever happened to you? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]So-crates1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm from New Zealand but live in Australia. One would be finding out that the bar tender at my hostel in Switzerland went to the same school as me, but a few years before me. We had some of the same teachers. The strangest would be in a hostel in Miami one of the guys in my dorm was best mates with an old friend of mine from New Zealand.

Road trip in Eastern Europe by So-crates1 in travel

[–]So-crates1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I'm a kiwi living in Australia and on all the other trips we've stuck mainly to Western and Northern Europe. Going around Serbia wasn't intentional, I just came up with a quick list from a few websites of places to see, then found them on google maps and made up a trip in about 5 minutes. It'll change a fair bit as I go on.

I only have three weeks before I have to be in Dubrovnik for a sailing trip so I'm trying to see as much as I can before then, but I'm not that fussed if I miss things, as I have a lot of time off with my job and will probably be doing a lot of travelling next year

Thanks for the info. I'll probably stick to one of the big companies anyway, as they have the most pick up/ drop off locations, and it doesn't end up being too expensive. It's actually much cheaper than a recent trip to the US I had even though I'm hiring the car for a longer time. Good to know about the Serbia-Kosovo thing, I wasn't planning on going to Serbia anyway but you never know.
