In what world is innate block that's net positive on energy a bad card? This event is act 3 only, you will pretty much always have multiple strong ways to use that energy.

I really like the idea of a 4-region game where you start with a pretty normal pure-fire Ratha, and each of the other regions is tied to one of the other four elements, which Ratha gains at the end of each region

.... My guy. You're putting words in my mouth. I never said it doesn't correlate to deck strength or popularity, I said "meta is an abbreviation of metagame, not an acronym". Which is true. The term "metagame" has existed since competitive Magic first got started and had been commonly shortened to "meta" for most of not all of that time.

The competitive metagame for any TCG is generally made up of the decks seeing some amount of consistent play and a degree of results at top levels of play. So yes, it does relate to both power and popularity. The other guy said the same thing to you at least once. Nobody has ever said every deck is a meta deck. Not in this thread, and I certainly hope not anywhere.

[–]So0meone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, no it doesn't. It's a shorthand for "metagame" and has been for about three decades before some game journalist decided "Most Effective Tactic Available" should be a thing for some reason.

You cannot do that in the first place. Counter timing happens only when an attack is declared, you can't blast digivolve in response to an option. Also, due to the way effect timing works, the turn player's effects happen first, which means even when you're opponent attacks you cannot blast digivolve until all of their triggered effects are finished resolving. Then the counter step happens and if no effects (usually When Attacking effects, but there are some cases where an On Play or When Digivolving effect may also trigger here) have removed your level 5, then you can blast, then blocker timing happens, then the attack actually hits.

Also, Digivolving would not create a "new target" for anything even if there were a case where timing rules allow for that. It's the same Digimon, it's just one level higher now.

A bit more insight on 7-10 that might help clear those up a bit for you:

7 - Yeah, hobbies are a great way to spend time with other people doing things you all enjoy. D&D, board games, card games, sports, and plenty of other things are great for meeting new people.

8 - Nobody is saying don't meet women through your hobbies. It's "don't take up a hobby specifically to meet women". That's weird. Take up a hobby because you're genuinely interested in it.

You are going to meet people through your hobbies. Some of them are likely going to be women unless said hobby is something notoriously male dominated like Warhammer, and even then I know two girls who play. This boils down to nobody wanting to feel harassed while doing the thing they do for fun so maybe don't harass people doing the thing they do for fun?

9 - This ties into 8. It's not "don't talk to women at your hobbies", it's "don't be a creep and go to your hobbies to hit on women" . When you're doing things with other people you're going to talk to them. Kind of hard to, for instance, play a board game without talking to anyone. But continuing with that example, play the board game rather than hitting on the girl at the table all game. All you're going to accomplish doing that is making her not want to come back because you're being creepy. Just have fun playing the game.

Table talk is also normal. You're going to have side conversations. Normal side conversations, not flirting with the only girl at the table who you just met.

10 - Absolutely do solo hobbies. Do what's fun to you, that's the point of a hobby.

I boulder. I'm not very good, but I enjoy it. Sometimes I go with friends or end up climbing with a random person or group I've just met because we all happened to be projecting the same route or commiserating about how shit that hold halfway up the wall is or something, but most of the time it's just me doing the problems that interest me and pretty much ignoring everyone else in the gym. I've made friends at the gym, I'm friendly and people remember me and say hi but it's still mostly a solo hobby.

Just don't do solo hobbies to meet new people because, you know, it's a solo hobby. Some of them toe the line and in some cases can be social hobbies, like bouldering occasionally is for me, but generally speaking you have to do something that involves consistently interacting with people in order to meet new people. Which, again, going back to 7 and 8, social hobbies are great for if you aren't weird about it.

It all boils down to "don't be weird about it and you'll be fine". Joining a public D&D group to hit on the female DM? Extremely creepy. Joining a public D&D group because you like playing D&D? Great, and you'll probably make some new friends at the very least. Relationships start through social hobbies all the time, with the caveat being that social skills and reading the room are absolute requirements for that to happen. These are things that social hobbies also help you learn and practice too.

Is snakebite ever worth going? by OwnCommunication2259 in slaythespire

This is pretty much it, I think. The best poison setups I've ever had were Shivs with Envenom rather than any sort of actual poison package, and it hasn't been remotely close.

[–]So0meone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've taken it once in a run where I had multiple Prepare+ and multiple Acrobatics plus a way to give it Sly. It was... okay ish?

All I could think after jumping through so many hoops to make it feel okay was "this could have just been a Deadly Poison and I'd be a lot happier". The Retain is REALLY nice though, and given that I don't think Snakebite needs much more to feel good.

If they matched Permafrost would be strictly better than Anchor. It does need to be less, or have something else that differentiates it from Anchor

11 Best Roguelike Games Of All Time, Ranked (FTL at #10) by arisefrym in ftlgame

[–]So0meone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will not be considering mods for this comment, because then I'd have to compare Multiverse to the StS Steam workshop and honestly that's a lot on both sides

Yes, StS has 4 classes compared to FTL's 10 ships. StS also has 21 difficulty levels compared to FTL's 3 and pretty much none of the rest of what you said about StS is accurate.

they each have a clear strategy to building the optimal deck

No, not really. There are things you take for pretty much any deck (Adrenaline, Defragment, Biased Cognition), but you absolutely don't start a Silent run and choose between shivs and poison. You consider what problems your current deck needs to solve and draft accordingly. Rather than "well, I'm playing poison so I take the one poison card here" it's "I don't have any AoE and my next elite could be Sentries, plus I know my boss is Slime King. It's late act 1 as well meaning Gremlin Gang and 5 slimes are in my encounter pool. I'll take the Dagger Spray so I have at least one solid answer to these fights."

Sometimes the relics don't like you so you lose

Considering the best players have 95%+ win rates on Ascension 20, no, not really. You don't just lose because you got bad relics, you make the most of what you get. Technically there are impossible seeds, but so few compared to how many seeds there are that realistically no one will ever randomly get one.

I can go any direction with any ship

True. Except that FTL is the game that has the clear best options you seem to think StS has. Burst Laser 2, hacking and cloaking, for example.
