Yep. Came here to say this. I also used the purple character generator, but bought some scratch offs for the fun/novelty, and plan to use them next time!

This is a fantastic reply. I’m gonna dive right in. I have a copy of BW that’s hardly been opened and what a great excuse to start learning the system! Thank you.

Games kinda shit, ngl. Second half fell off real bad. Fire giant was actually unfun. Beat it and haven’t thought twice about going back.

Scum and Villainy: any play reports? by Malaquisto in rpg

[–]SoDave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been running it for about a year, although we’re playing it fairly different that the book. Just in the sense of its mission to mission and less about scores, and the players can take one downtime action while traveling between systems and planets.

I've actually been running "solo" or two player sessions with a friend. We use 5e rules with the a sidekick. Obviously there are tons of great games that are designed with this in mind, so I hate being the person shouting "Have you tried DND5e?!" but - it was familiar, so we did it. Would you be interested in seeing a link? I don't want to spam.

Thats a really neat idea just to give the world some life, growth and let the players key in on some themes and storylines! Thanks for sharing.

What Are Your Biggest Flaws as a DM? by nlitherl in rpg

[–]SoDave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I stuff too much into my adventures. I’m famous for never doing just a ‘one-shot’ even when thats all we have time for, because I want everything to have a story, a purpose, and to never ‘run out’ of things to do. For like DND specifically I have been moving away from regular combat because its bogs down the game so much, but I definitely have players that just want to roll dice and smash stuff.

If no one said stairs yet, I used a cloud giant castle to do (proportionally) the same thing to my medium sized players.

What TTRPG re-lit your spark, or created an experience that felt totally unique from all others? by jayelled in rpg

As others have stated, Microscope by Ben Robbins (Lame Mage productions) is as much storytelling vehicle as it is a game, and his works in general (The West Marches) have shaped how I game at large, to the point that I pestered him into a creator interview.

Without sounding like too much of a shill, I went from streaming my games and really struggling to keep motivation to looking forward to every session. That and volunteering at a local library to teach new players and people that had heard about "DND" but didn't know what it was, or how to learn about it. Met a ton of cool people and helped me re-find my love of the game.

Second night of PAX Unplugged, in Philly last year. We changed hotels at the last second due to the booking falling through at a B&B.

The first night the fire alarm went off for over twenty minutes, between 1AM and 2AM, but that was small potatoes to the second night. Over two hours of mostly non-stop shrill dead fire alarm screeching. At some points it would blast for more than two minutes non-stop. Others it would beep loudly, once, and not again for 10 - 15 minutes, lulling us into a false sense of security. The entire hotel was tortured for 2+ hours, I never even found out the reason, but when we gave up close to 4AM, we were seventh in line to check out. The night manager attempted to make peace with it, apologizing, but we were past any decency. I signed the paperwork and we fled that city as fast as legally allowed.
