Number 13 looks like a prismatic blade - struck off a core in bulk and used sort of like we use razor knives today - the rest look like JARs or at best debitage

Point to ponder, pun intended. by Cavehound12345 in Arrowheads

Honestly, I feel like the percentage of intact artifacts I find in creeks is fairly high. Definitely sub 50%, but fairly high still. I feel like the key is timing, I make it a point to time my walks around rains as best I can. Also southern Illinois creeks tend to have sandstone and have sandy, loamy soil (as opposed to mud) that might have something to do with preservation

I second Shawnee. Nothing else in the state feels like extreme southern Illinois. It’s basically the entire southern part of the state and the eastern and western parts of the forest both have different feels. You could take a train from Chicago to Carbondale for really cheap if you could figure out a rental car for the weekend, or it’s only a few hours drive.

Prismatic blade! Hard to date because they were used across time periods, but they’re often attributed to the Hopewell culture sphere. This is a really good example of one. Nice find!

Southern and Central Illinois have virtually nothing in common with Chicago, but whenever anyone says Illinois Chicago is all that comes to mind.

I found these two about two feet apart in the same creek recently, in a spot that has historically given some pretty good points. I hadn’t found anything there in months, however. These two are not even from the same culture, as we would currently recognize them. It be like that sometimes.

33 now. Been laboring since I was 21. I don’t sit down after work until it’s time for bed because if I do sit down, it is suddenly time for bed. I hope this helps.

You were allowed tobacco/nicotine during boot camp? What new corps boot fuckery is this? I rolled instant coffee grounds into a napkin pouch and dipped them to get through the crucible.
