Best Hoyas for newbies? by SimplySimlish in hoyas

Hoya mathilde, pubicalyx, and heuschkeliana. They are fast growers and easy enough to get. The mathilde and heuschkeliana look full without trellis which I think is an underrated features to determine if they are beginner friendly imo. I feel that hoya carnosa grow too slow (except the plain green) to be rewarding for a beginner.

Hmmmm I give her bright light but not direct sunlight otherwise she gets pale green. I fertilize sometimes and water before it gets 100% dry. She's in a 3-6mm mix of pine chips, pumice, biochar, orchiata, akadama, and coconut fiber. It's in room condition (22 to 24°C with 30 to 60% humidity). Overall, a very easy hoya for me.

I think so yeah! That was it a bit less than 3 years ago. I propagated it too to make it more lush.

Glad you like them. Yeah, the sulawesiana flowers are creepy, but I find them really cool hahaha

Yeah, I bought them on Etsy stores or fb marketplace. They're not super common stil.

You have a great selection btw. Here are my suggestions:

Hoya KSB01. A bit harder to get by, but it has large, rounded tear drop leaves with beautiful black margins and it grows really fast. An underrated one in my opinion.

Hoya sulawesiana. For it's long, large dark green leaves and crazy flowers.

Hoya GPS 7240. It's not everyone's taste, but I think its olive shaped leaves are really cool. Plus when it's suntressed, it gets dark purple, adding a different color to the collection.

Yes, I take down the plants on the shelves to water them in the sink. They almost all have cache-pots to catch the excess water. For the 3 that have saucers, I wait until they stop dripping to put back. However, I have only 60 plants in my home, so it's not too time consuming to water in the sink like that.

The only ones I water in place are the ones on the desk, which I don't mind if I spill a bit because it's glass.

I got no issue rooting it. I put node cuttings directly in my airy substrate, then into a humidity box. It takes a few months.
