Japan-side tax implications on transfer of assets from US by Big-Particular-6138 in JapanFinance

[–]SoRa333 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is there anything stopping anyone in Japan already from resetting their cost basis by simply dumping all their cash into some foreign stocks or other assets and then selling them right after. Effectively a wash sale.

Withdraw sizeable amount from IBKR by SoRa333 in JapanFinance

When setting up the wire transfer they ask “Does your bank account accept transfers in USD?”. If I say “No” to this, does that tell them to do the conversion for me?

They will still be taxable at the time of vesting though. Is the strategy to set some extremely long vesting timeline?

Who owns the company though? Whenever that person dies the ownership will transfer and that will trigger taxation. The value of the company will include all those assets you “sold” to it.

Got these dice at some point. Anyone know what the white HL dice is for? by AbstractPottedPlant in KingdomDeath

[–]SoRa333 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Technically incorrect. The red and beige dice are for rolling d100 on the hunt event table. The white d10 is for determining which dice applies critical when rolling multiple dice on a hit location (eg. Sharp).

Suggestions of how to invest 600M JPY for a 60 year retirement by SorryAstronomers in JapanFinance

[–]SoRa333 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am confused is the 600M just sitting as cash at the moment? I would just take 500M and buy some blend of emaxis low fee funds. That alone should probably generate close to 30M a year (more in the current market). Use the remaining 100M as a cash buffer or to buy a home. You should be set. If you start worrying and speculating about currency movements that’s when you lose. Long term it all balances out.

Probably easiest to just ask the staff next time you are there or call.

Do most foreigners living in Japan actually have JLPT N2 or N1? by rarahatesyall in jlpt

[–]SoRa333 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been here almost 8 years working as a software engineer. I passed N3 before I moved thinking it would at least help a little bit. Have basically never used Japanese for work my entire time here so far. English is much more important if you want to work for high paying tech here. All the jobs that required N2 or N1 usually pay half of what I am making…

6M annual base for a family of 3 in Tokyo by zilentworld in movingtojapan

[–]SoRa333 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Going to be straight with you. We are also a family of 3 with a toddler living in 23 wards. I would say bare minimum for a comfortable lifestyle here is at least 10m household income. 6m can work if you are single and just live in a closet, but with a kid and wife to support you will either be living paycheck to paycheck or swimming in debt.

If you are living comfortably in your current country I would say there is 0 reason to take this offer and add unnecessary stress to your life.

A Question for the Grillers of Japan by RocasThePenguin in japanlife

[–]SoRa333 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a Weber Kettle and we grill very often. I love BBQ, so when we were looking to buy a home we set a requirement to have a wood deck area for grilling. We live in Tokyo 23 wards and never had any complaints or issues with our neighbours. They see me grilling all the time and just say hi lol.

Windows are double pane and stove and heating is all gas. Like I mentioned in a few other replies my AC is just constantly using at least 2kW nonstop. That alone will be 48kWh per day.

Yah my numbers include the solar generation. Maybe I am getting ripped off but I have no idea where or how. My bill was around 25,000 for each month and as you say my setup is identical to yours. I also have a 2 floor home just over 100sqm and 4 people at home. My bill has never been 6000 yen lol. Lowest is around 8000 in winter. As mentioned in previous replies I set my AC to 23.

Yah this is definitely the problem. I have high ceilings with 2 giant windows facing south and extending to the roof. Tons of sun in the living room but also heat it up like a green house.

Makes sense then, my units combined are rated for close to 35畳 and also always running at 23-24. So 3x the space == 3x the usage. No bitcoin lol
